Ignoring comparisons to TAS, is this show any good?
>>
Yes. It does some interesting things with the characters, like the episode where Joker dresses up as Batman, the one with D.A.V.E and the one where Riddler tells Batman his backstory and he has a breakdown because Batman solves in hours what he hadn't figured out in years.
>>
>>89207932
It's a decent time waster. Nothing horrible, but nothing great.
>>
It was alright.
The Batman vs Dracula was really fucking good, though.
>>
>>89207932
I liked it. I think it got a lot of hate because it wasnt TAS though.
>>
>>89207932
It was great. I liked the suits and gadgets.
>>
>>89209926
That whole movie was pretty good honestly.
>>
>>89207932

>>
yeah
>>
>>89209978
OP here I was one of those people but I also didn't watch most of it and was probably just a shitlord. I want to give it an honest look now.
>>
>>89207932
The first opening theme was next level cool.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2hG92W-rRA
>>
>>89210230
Watch a few episodes, I'd say. It isn't necessarily as great (kinda subjective, I suppose) or "timeless" as BTAS, but it's definitely interesting and entertaining enough. Clearly, the creators /tried/ doing something different and they /tried/ doing it well, and, to me, that's worth at least checking out.
>>
>>89210259
I get chills every time I hear that whispered "The Batman."
>>
>>89207932
Not really, but people who grew up with it are old enough to post here now, and can't see through their nostalgia.
>>
>>89207932

Ignoring nostalgia TAS wasn't that good either

People only remember Heart of Ice and the handful of good episodes but most of it was crap like this. Conrroy hadn't found his voice yet and the overall show was, quite frankly, lame
>>
Most people either love it or hate it.
Some love to hate it, others hate that they love it.

I love it. Great Batman, great overall feel. Loved the background and the art, especially the police uniforms. Villain designs were either 10/10 or "what were they thinking"-tier, but at least it was a new Joker instead of the same old shit every time.
>>
>>89210376
Joker's new look was motivated primarily by a desire to elevate the action in the show, so they wanted a Joker who could physically fight Batman.
>>
>>89210331
fucking same man, i really do love it
>>
>>89210360
I know right! It was so bad! It had so many problems, such as
>>
>>89207932

It's all right. A few good moments, a lot of really bad ones.

The fact that the show was so painfully, blatantly toyetic. I mean, holy fuck, that scene in the first episode with Alfred shilling the Batwave? Goddamn.
>>
I grew up with TAS, but I actually think of The Batman as a better overall show.
Better pace, more interesting episodes, more interesting takes on the characters.

Amazing Alfred design.
>>
>>89207932
No. Its the laziest batman in decades. Only upside is Batwoman being an almost loli and ivy being an almost loli. Otherwise is pretty damned terrible.
>>
>>89210363
And everyone ignores Superman TAS.
>>
>>89210485
This 100%. Batman felt so weak in TAS (despite being written to be the best for some reason). It was so unusual that he would rarely use gadgets and that the cape was useless. I was glad that Batman was actually able to do things in this series, and it was cool to see him evolve into his rightful place as one of the best crimefighters.

Plus him fighting all the villains at once with Robin in that one scene reminded me of video games where you'd face bosses again as regular enemies, or in quick succession (like Mega Man) to show how much stronger you've gotten.
>>
>>89210509
>No. Its the laziest batman in decades
But that's Beware the Batman, which was the most generic, formulaic thing in the world, but with rarely used characters to make it seem fresh even though the characters acted nothing like their usual selves and instead acted like firmly established characters who were just cosplaying as someone else.
>>
>>89210588
Not really. Aside from trying to use a lot of lesser known villains, it also had a lot more of batman as a detective than just being a bat ninja. The Batman didn't really do anything original. It just took what previous series had done and handled it all as lazily as possible.
>>
>>89210588
Beware the Batman was great too. There hasn't been a bad Batman series in all of his history. Same with Superman.
>>
>>89210363
I've got batman in my basement is capekino though

people are just mad because it wasn't dark, but don't remember that in The Riddler's debut episode there was a giant maze with a robot minotaur and a flying hand. BTAS was way more Silver Age than anyone gives credit
>>
When I watch a show with batman he's all I see, mask on or off. The Batman got me really interested in Bruce Wayne as a character
>>
Stray Bat
>>
>>89211307
That's an interesting way to look at it.
>>
>>89210326
BTAS is good but not timeless .

But that's bullshit. The only one that feels like a ripoff is Anarky. Pyg and Toad are too hedonistic to resemble Ivy. Magpie is too deranged and murderous to ever fill in for Catwoman. Not to mention Beware was the first Batman show to be fully serialized.

The Batman TRIED to be different. Beware actually WAS different.

Lies. I rewatched the entire series recently and it is absolutely still top tier.

There are some dumb episodes, like almost any of them with catwoman, but there are all also many episodes of pure cartoon kino like "It's never too late".

I thoroughly enjoyed it. I found a number of the character reinterpretations fun, and some of them were more memorable than previous iterations.

Also, my favorite version of Babs.

>>89209926
That movie was way better than it had any right to be.
>>
The two things I liked were the more modern Gotham and the focus on Bruce Wayne as an individual separate from Batman, and how surprisingly happy or jovial he could be. You really got the idea that the two were completely different people, rather than Bruce being Batman without the mask on.
>>
>>89213513
This, it's my favorite take on Bruce from any cartoon. I'm so sick of the cynical batgod angle that's so popular these days.
>>
>>89213543
I think a big part of it is his visual design, because Bruce looks like he could be really young almost and really plays up the rich playboy thing (not a literal playboy since the show was PG of course but it really had the image of a young celebrity) and then the tonal whiplash when he becomes Batman is great. It's like the costume adds twenty years of emotional maturity.
>>
>>89213611
Yeah I know what you mean. Man I loved the cape in this show. It would drape over his shoulders and cover his whole body, gave him a great aesthetic.

Does anybody remember the episode where Batman gets injected with some shit that makes him start tripping, and then he thinks everyone is a zombie, like Batgirl and everyone else, and he's just going super nuts the whole time?

I remember it vividly from when I was younger and I watched it on tv.
>>
>>89213985
yes. that was a Dr Strange ep. it was real good. with the twist being
strange drugged Batman to see zombies, and the cure bombs he planted around the city (with help from strange) would have actually caused the real zombie apocalypse
>>
>>89214127
That was it, thanks anon
>>
>>89207932
I don't remember much of it, other than the Bane ep.
That theme song though, glorious. Currently my ringtone
>>
I will mention it 'till I'm blue in the face but they gave Ellen Yin the dick hard with no lube.

From my understanding they had no idea they would be getting rights to Batgirl between seasons, which is why she appeared soon as they got the chance to do so.

And I hope that's true too because it would have been a perfect sendoff to Yin though to lose her job for helping Batman.

Instead, she keeps her job and gets no mention until the series is about to come to an end. It was retarded. I'm acting kind of biased right now but I don't give a fuck. That was my bitch after Ethan.

>>
That episode where Batman fights the guy who could rewind time a few seconds was pretty cool.
>>
Utter shit, yet somehow more entertaining then the boring-as-fuck Beware The Batman.
>>
>>89207932
Speaking as someone who grew up with B:TAS, I think The Batman is definitely worth a watch. There are a lot of good moments, like the Riddler's first episode and the Clayface arc. It's more focused on action scenes than on complex characterization, and Batman had a lot more super-tech gadgets (remote controlled hover-batarangs, for example) that I found somewhat off-putting, but it's enjoyable nonetheless.

>>
It had the GOAT Barbara.

The first two seasons were very fresh, but after that it got really homogenized.
>>
>>89215934
I thought it was one of the weakest Batmobiles. it just looks like a Lamborghini, a bit too normal for something to be a batmobile.
>>
It had its ups and downs.
>>
I loved this series can someone please post links so I can download it?
>>
>>89216625
I always thought the Batmobile at a glance should look like a concept car/supercar/muscle car. It shouldn't stick out like a sore thumb. When SHTF then it can transform (rockets, guns etc)
>>
I actually thought the whole adam west-esque theme to the second OP was kinda cute
Also the one with the zombies was probably of the best episodes

I also liked that. People give this suit shit for being toyatic, but I loved the fact that he didn't only use it for that first fight against Freeze. In a later season when Gotham is having a natural blizzard he goes out on patrol wearing it, and the fact is never even pointed out. It's just part of his gear at that point.
>>

>>89207932
It had a good theme song and some interesting villain design and voice direction.
>>
>>89221837
Theres a character in the show who sorta fills Harvey Dent's role
He's cop who's Bruce's best friend and chases the batman and turns into clayface
My guess is that they didnt include two face because it'd probably be to similar to what they already had in mind
Not entirely sure why scarescrow never showed up. Oddly enough though solomon grundy was said to be in an episode I dont think he actually appeared in the episode he was debuted in
>>
>>89221837
Legal thing. Had something to do with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.
>>
>>89207932
I liked that it did it's own thing at first, and the theme song was great. Shit went downhill when they changed the song, got rid of some characters, and added Gordon along with Barbara.

I loved the dynamic between Bruce and Babs. The only thing I didn't like about TBM was the fact that every single villain (including Penguin and Joker) was some kind of martial arts master. >>
>>89222271
Firefly was legitimately one of my favorite redesigns. Even if it wasn't true to the original character, there was just something so incredibly slick and... 'City of Heroes'-esque about him that I just can't get enough of. I really wish they could have somehow reused that design on something.
>>
>>89210563
I liked that Batman was more human than 'peak human condition' you saw him wobble on thin platforms, you saw him have to think his way out of traps instead of gadget or wait for supahman.

I want to be the guy that says TAS also told a better story, but we know that the storytelling was often a crutch or cover up for a smaller animation budget.

The show had a good batgirl.
I'm glad that they shook up the convention with having Batgirl as Batman's sidekick (though, reluctantly on his part) before any mention of Robin at all. They probably could've done the series without a robin at all, this time.

I actually felt bad for the character when she was so quickly sidelined for robin despite trying her hardest to win batman's trust for a while before dick grayson is brought on and discovers bruce's secret.

I didn't like how Det.Yin was even more crudely brushed aside, without so much as an explanation, cept a throwaway mention in that future episode, for Gorden. That's just bad writing.

The batmobiles also looked fucking retarded.

Beware The Batman gets unfair hate because:
-the team was over-ambitious with their plans with making a full 3D Gotham with dozens of background characters and every reoccurring character to have various outfits
-the creators were retold to go back and censor the darker/mature themes and guns
-the team was rushed into releasing the show too early so we got a half made Gotham with hardly any civilians or vehicles in the background. Villains did not have civilian/prisoner clothing as intended.
-Cartoon Network CEO of the time was not interested in action cartoons and used toy sales as an indicator of how well a show was doing
-Beware The Batman hardly got any support or marketing
