Two, more importantly, there are some very obvious reasons why it was allowed to contradict a WoR: YOU SHOULD NOT TRUST QROW OR OZPIN AS FAR AS YOU CAN THROW THEM
I feel that needs to be in caps for people to get why they decided to make the Two Brothers dump a in character, in show moment instead of using a WoR to explain it, then simply implying that Qrow covered that in the break between episode 7 and 8

I think the exposition dump feels worse because that moment is by far the most expansive look into Remnant's history we have ever gotten, and the thing which has advanced the story the most in V4, and it was a complete joke of a scene.

I just feel like, whilst V4 did have to be the toned down volume after the HO SHIT fest that was V3, they've just made a dogs breakfast of the whole thing. RWBY should never have been split up, character moments should have taken precedence over world building, and maybe that would have mitigated the lack of screentime RWBY has. But instead of using a little time to try and tell a concise but good story, they are trying to use a little time to tell a gigantic and bereft story.

How can she watch RWBY WHEN she's tasteful?

Jaune has had growth and development, which requires acknowledging his faults.

I feel they would need to call attention to Ruby's flaws in order for her to be more significant, or at least become a better character, but the show isn't very good at doing that.

I'm hoping that at the very least her insistence on fighting Tyrian to Qrow's detriment would be addressed as an issue. There's a time and place for her storybook mentality for heroics, but that sure as hell wasn't it. It somewhat hearkens back to volume 1 in the forest when she gets in Weiss's way while fighting off grimm.

It's disappointing.
She's the hero, a supposed prodigy accepted into a combat school for her abilities, and a team leader who logically should have some tactical prowess.
Even if Qrow's semblance wasn't a factor, she should've recognized that she would end up being a liability.

Self insert in the narrative or fanon idea?

Because Jaune blatantly shares personality traits with Miles and Kerry but he's not them straight up shoved into the show which is what a self insert actually is out side of fanfiction.

He does come off a bit as wish fulfillment but Jaune is actually a bit more of a fuck up and less skilled relatively than Miles and Kerry. If Miles wants to be like Jaune he's actually cutting out a lot of his good traits to make it happen.

Honestly Jaune has always come off to me more as being the product lazy as fuck writing instead of blatant wish fulfillment.

They're not very good writers. Kerry particularly is unsubtle as shit. Jaune just comes off as one of those characters lazy writers kind of write as a placeholder with maybe some characteristics tacked on to make them unique.

Like the protagonists in old Pulp stories.

People are putting a lot of emphasis on Pyrrha this attractive girl going for Jaune immiedietly but they're forgetting she's eighteen years old and Jaune isn't exactly out of her league looks wise.

Also Pyrrha was kind of unstable. She had obvious issues going back to the beginning of the series and her trigger for isolation was never really pulled by Jaune like Weiss did.

But you're honestly wasting your time. Side characters will never matter in the grand scheme of things, and will never get the focus you want, and villains will always get the crap kicked out of them and probably die in the end because it's not that kind of show.

The pay off you want is almost certianly not going to happen.
