here we go again i guess
>>
Oh sure, it's awkward and romantic when this twink does it, but when a heavyset black man does it a couple minutes past midnight, it's aggravated stalking. Apparently can't adjust my underwear either if it takes more than a couple of seconds. Racist pricks.
>>
>>89171903
Rough day?
>>
I tried to make a thread earlier, it got 404'd.
>>
>>89171903
I like the idea of a heavyset black man calling out random Pokemon Go advice. It's an interesting visual.
>>
>>89172394
Dammit if Joe and Joyce aren't a couple by the end of this I'm gonna be mad.
>>
>>89172394
I have no idea what my emotions are supposed to be.

On the topic of structure, in regards to how Willis organizes his strips: There's very little actual structure. Willis cuts away like it's going out of style, without letting a narrative rise and fall as necessary.

>>
>>89172394
Are you even allowed to hang a sex swing in a dorm? That would required at least a bit of drilling screws into the walls for support, right? You can't command hook that shit, Joe.

i feel incredibly bad for sarah in this strip.

is it because she's the only reasonably likable character trapped in a world of petty narcissists?

or is it because she's trapped at a table of petty narcissists?

or is it because, as the only character who seems to show basic human empathy, she's routinely thrust into situations that punish her concern for others?
>>
>>89172394
The secret password is "participate".
>>
>>89172394
joyce, pointing out that shes trying to attract a boyfriend in front of the (not single) guy shes trying to attract is no way to help your friend get a boyfriend
>>
>>89172496
You can also get those plastic hook thingies and put them on the wall. Those can take a beating.

>>89173336
Joyce was home-schooled. I think that speaks for itself. I'm not saying home-schooled kids are bad or anything, but she is not super-used to trying to set people up, especially if they are outside her friend group.
>>
>>89172496
You gotta get creative anon. I made mine out of 500-pound test paracord, my pillows, and my room mate's loft.
>>
>>89171903
Are you speaking from experience?
>>
>>89172394
Even with all of the nonsocial, awkward, autistic people I know, basically none of them have said something like what Sarah says in the first two panels.
>>
>>89172502
2072, after Joyce entirely renounces her faith and so does Joe, because of reasons. Joyce is almost 20 at the time, and they were going to wait until marriage, but they have sex the day they get engaged because Joyce is so overwhelmed with happiness and love.

it's too goddamn early/late to be laughing this hard.
>>
>>89174915
Maybe their Diglett impression wasn't as good as Jacob's.
>>
>>89172734
I wonder if there's a rhyme or reason as to why he picks the words he does. Maybe they're always in a specific type of sentence or panel?
>>
>>89175515
that's the exact reason
>>
>>89172394
It's pretty weird to mention the boyfriend thing so explicitly in front of Jacob. Also, Joyce is generally doing a shitty job as a wingwoman. She set up this situation, the least she could do is jump in with a "so how was class" or "Sarah was telling me an interesting story about baseball bat care" or something.

I can't wait to read how Joe is a patriarchal monster for declining to mention something but then saying it after getting pressured. Also, how his acknowledgement of Sarah's rejection is somehow more offensive.

I find it kinda funny how much Joe is genuinely into hooking up with Sarah. It's a bummer she finds him so distasteful when all she really wants right now (or feels she's capable of handling emotionally) is sex. Maybe that's how this will end up, she'll agree to bang Joe and request discretion, but Jacob will find out and think less of her because she's "slutty."

>>89174104
Well, this is more the misanthropic part of her. The awkward/asocial aspect of Sarah is all over the place, but generally she has no problem being critical or cracking jokes on people, it's just pleasant conversation she struggles with.
>>
>>89172394
Wait, so Joyce doesn't know what a strap-on is but she knows what a sex swing is?

>>89172496

As far as I can tell, there are two elements to the words he picks: He goes for longer, unique words, and he uses words (or sets of words) that he hasn't used as passwords before.

This is because the passwords/titles of the strips are used as a means of hopping to a specific comic. For example, if you go to the URL http://dumbingofage.com/deceptress, it would take you to that specific strip with that specific password/title if it exists. If you use an incomplete word, like "ac" instead, it will autocomplete a word and send you to whatever comic's password/title begins with "ac".
>>
>>89179617
go back to tumblr, willis.
>>
>>89179670
I don't think Willis has it in him to say "nigger". In fact, I wonder if there's a filter for it in his comments the same way that there's a filter from "bitch" to "bongo".
>>
>>89179797
I bet he says it all the time in private.
>>
>>89179343
Glad to say I had most of them saved.

I was only missing the Asma one, and the coloured Ruth and Billie pic. And I've rectified that now.
>>
>>89180144
Nah, but I bet he has his own censor for the word. Y'know, something like "nutter-butter" or "ningle" or "na-na-na". It begins with the letter "N" so that you know it's supposed to be "nigger", but it's not "nigger" so you can't accuse him of saying the word "nigger".

...

Y'know, when you say the word "nigger" a lot, it really starts to lose its meaning. Maybe that's how we solve racism.
>>
>>89179797
He probably wouldn't allow the comment to go through at all.
>>
>>89180300

4chan's great for that.

I think "nigger", "fag", and "autist" have lost all offensiveness here.

Water-type Pokemon typically appear near water. They appear in other places as well, but your best bet is to go to your local lake.

And the more people playing the game at the same time, the more Pokemon will appear.
>>

>>

>If you use an incomplete word, like "ac" instead, it will autocomplete a word and send you to whatever comic's password/title begins with "ac".

Are you the anon dictionary attacking to find the next 3 months of updates? Because that anon should be using this. Just run dumbingofage/a, /aa, /aaa, etc to see what autocompletes
>>
>>89183007
Yeah, that's me.
But the auto-complete only applies to posts that are already live on the website, unfortunately.
>>
>>89183112
That is surprisingly competent for Willis. My guess would be none of the pages are live even if the pngs are uploaded. So you need to go after dumbingofage.com/comics/*date*-*word*.PNG

But I'm sure that's obvious
>>
>>89183369
It's a Wordpress thing. The images are uploaded in his queue, and as such they're live on the server. They're just inaccessible without knowing the date and password.
So yeah, pretty much what you just said right there.

You can even see how accessing future strips would work on a website without such security: http://www.itswalky.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/
>>
>>89183478
Well, at least you can improve your dictionary over time by removing know passwords. You can get what, 2000ish (assuming book 7 means this is the 7th year of DOA) know passwords from already published strips.
>>
>>89181266

Don't forget "cuck"

I'm not quite sure what Joyce is supposed to find shocking about what Jacob said. Is she surprised that people can be in a relationship without sex, or that someone thinks she was right about something?
>>
>>89197749
Willis is really doing the "eyebrow several inches above the top of the character's head" thing this week.
>>
>>89197749
I think she's shocked that Jacob has been talking for more than two panels in one strip.

I feel like this is supposed to be a dialogue at Sarah's expense, since she's the one who just wants to bone Jacob and be done with it. Would it be at Sarah's sexpense in that case?
>>
>>89197749
She got totally reamed out for dating Ethan, and so did Ethan for dating her. Everyone thought it was awful and dumb and selfish, even though both Ethan and Joyce were happy.

Meanwhile, looks like the month of April will involve Leslie having to explain to her class (that is to say, the only people in her class who matter (that is to say, the cross-section of the main cast of "Dumbing of Age" who attend her course)) what she was doing with a Senator in the dead of night.

Man, what is even the point of this comic anymore?

I'm seriously asking. Willis himself has said that he's basically doing this on auto-pilot

But why is this what he churns out? Why do this when it's just miserable people being horrible to each other?

Who likes this? Who is the audience for this?
>>
>>89198127
It's about shame and revenge. That's all the comments section seems to be getting out of it.
>>
>>89197749
I assume Joyce finds shocking the same thing as I do: Jacob is twisting the situation around in order to justify her actions. He's acting like they had some kind of hetero-romantic, asexual relationship. But Ethan wasn't hetero-romantic, he liked guys. His half of the relationship was based on how much easier his life would be if he just pretended to be in love with a girl, instead of being gay. And Joyce knew he was gay, so her half was based on lying to herself that he loved her back. Neither side was making a strong decision.

I'm guessing this is Willis' way of awkwardly introducing Jacob as asexual though.
>>
>>89197823
>I feel like this is supposed to be a dialogue at Sarah's expense, since she's the one who just wants to bone Jacob and be done with it.

I feel like this is Jacob telling them he's asexual. He just wants companionship without sex attached, so he's projecting his feelings onto a slightly similar, but nowhere near the same, situation.
>>
>>89198257
>Willis' way of awkwardly introducing Jacob as asexual though
thats how i read it too, but that seems pretty weird considering he was a sex-addict in shortpacked
>>
>>89198257
>awkwardly introducing Jacob as asexual
I'm guessing he's going to re-hash Jacob's sex addiction. So Jacob is abstaining from sex in the way an alcoholic might abstain from booze.
>>
>>89198308
Willis said that the characters in DoA will be different from how they were portrayed previously.
Despite this, a good number of elements have crossed over from one universe to the other, such as Robin being in Congress and Amazi-Girl existing at all.

I can see Willis writing it so that Jacob has sex once and is immediately hooked.
>>
>>89198374
>>89198305
>>89198257
>>89198308
He's definitely hetero, because all orientations are staying the same.

I agree that it's possible he'll do it once and realize he likes it a lot.

Willis did say he was going to like sex, but that he wasn't going to have that "Shortpacked extraness."
>>
>>89198127

I dunno but it's getting to the point where it's boring even to criticize.
>>
>>89198663
That's primarily because we've recently been given a relative lack of material to work with. The Toedad Saga will likely be unmatched due to all the physical impossibilities and logical fallacies involved. Everything in recent times has more or less been lackluster.
>>
>>89198127
It's just a late-teen soap opera. Probably Willis projecting his college experiences and just making a webcomic out of it . It's probably meant for people who LOVED the social aspect of college, but either dropped out, didn't get a lot of socializing, or both. More than likely a thing to be nostalgic over I guess.
>>
>>89198663
We need a new Toedad soon.

>>89200581
I'll agree with that. I wouldn't say Sarah looks scared, but she's definitely uncomfortable. If Joe gets off on seeing women uncomfortable, then that doesn't say much good about him.

But what he's really saying is that he likes standoffish girls, most likely because he wants to be the one who breaks past their boundaries and thus get freaky in bed.

Don't worry, she's still a proud queer ace woman who don't need no man.

Again, don't worry. Your opinion is still plenty problematic according to Cerb. Playing hard to get isn't a thing that people do anymore, apparently/
>>

It...it's not like the standoffish stereotype is female-exclusive. It's pretty prevalent in all sorts of media about all sorts of people.

Cerb shows very little cognizance or awareness outside of buzzwords.

>>89200931
I do at least get where she's coming from here. Interpreting a "soft no" as a challenge generally leads down a lot of unfortunate roads with pushy guys who think they can turn a "no" into a "yes."

I think what's most important to note here is that Joe will not seriously go after Sarah because he already knows she's not interested. She made it abundantly clear in the past, and Joe knows not to waste his time, because he can clearly get laid any time he wants to. He has no reason to spend time trying to get in Sarah's pants, because there are other women who are more accessible.
>>
>>89172394
It sounds like she's doing that thing moody teenagers do where they spiral into their problems.
"I dunno man, she didn't call me and I'm just like... what the fuck, you know? We were all meant to be and it's like... I'm heartbroken and sniffle."
whatever a stuck up teenage girl would say.

No no no, Danny was always kind of a bisexual. Everyone is, right? Even though he never made any indication of it in a story primarily about relationships, Danny was always kind of gay. That's just a natural part of being a straight guy. Right, Willis?

>>89201089
That's the problem with Joe and Cerberus, really. Joe is a horndog through and through; I think we can all agree on that. But this is Willisland and all characters must be distinguishably good or bad. Since Joe hangs out with the main cast occasionally, he is 'good', so you get the 'ethical slut' version of a horndog who respects the shit out of boundaries and is secure in his masculinity and doesn't get pushy or presumptuous or otherwise makes an ass of himself.

And that's not bad in itself (though I'd say that the majority of college freshmen aren't mature enough to have that sort of nuanced look on hooking up), but Cerebus (apparently) has extensive experience with the bad sort of horndog, and since she can't take her frustration out elsewhere, she takes it out on poor, innocent Joe.

She'd be making good points if this was, perhaps, a more realistic situation, but because Willis writes character dynamics like he's writing a Saturday Morning Cartoon, the point is moot because Joe will never be placed in a situation where his sluttiness will backfire in a way that significantly hurts someone else

>>89200931

Thanks.

Also, Joe internalized Sarah's hard no right after she said it you big dumb liar. It's also really unfair to characterize Joe as being into Sarah's scared and worried posture, when he has explicitly said he's into her "angry energy" that is also on display in that strip. She doesn't suffer fools, and that can be hot, and it connects to Joe enjoying being tied down and rode by Roz. He'd probably be way into getting verbally abused by a Sarah in a light Dom/Sub relationship (and Sarah would probably be into it to, if she could get past her utter disdain for him enough to have... disdain for him while fucking).

Also he wasn't going to say *anything* until Joyce pushed him, which counts for something.
>>
>>89197749
Jacob's description is a bit of a misinterpretation of their relationship, considering Joyce was softly trying to change Ethan and Ethan was pretty uncomfortable with the physical contact Joyce initiated.

Also, Ethan doesn't want to not be gay, he just wants to not have his gayness overtake every other part of his personality, So he was getting to enjoy cartoons n stuff with Joyce without constantly being reminded of his sexuality, but he could also find a cute nerd boy to do that with and get that along with sexual gratification.

But generally if he was fine with not having sex, and if Joyce could be with him without making him uncomfortable by touchin' his doughy body, then sure, I could see it being fine. Also, while Joyce is uncomfortable with the idea of sex due to her upbringing and encounter with Ryan, she is also horny as fuck and would benefit by being able to work through those boundaries at her pace with someone who would reciprocate in tandem with her.

I think the statement is more interesting in the context of Jacob's relationship with Raidah. Considering we know next to nothing about both of them. It kinda points to Raidah not wanting to have sex either. It could be a no sex out of wedlock situation.

Also, I'll gladly await Sarah giving Jacob her good pussy and breaking up his relationship while losing any chance with Jacob forever more.

It's generally written like he does. Willis just doesn't show any of it because, one, he hates to show anything ge doesn't have to, and two, because he hates to come up with new character designs and all the female NPCs in the comic are too sapphic to be used for a one-night stand

You know, I really dont have a problem with Dumbledore being gay PER SE, but it was weird she waited so long before ever bringing it up. The story's been over so long it would be really, REALLY irrelevant to bring up what he sticks his dick into regardless what his orientation was.

I mean if it doesn't matter what the names of Calvin's parents were for the purpose of the narrative, according to more than one person on here, why would it matter what team Albus batted for?

I just don't get it. Unless Rowling was just trying to score liberal brownie points, why make a point of it?
>>
>>89203168

Now with prequel movies being made, it might actually matter, but I agree that at the time it was probably just said as a cheeky aside to trigger bigots and endear herself to queers.

>>
>>89203211
I'm sure it did both trigger bigots and endear herself to some queers, but I think it's pretty cowardly to do stuff like that outside the text.

And in general it's just shitty. If you can't figure out how to convey whatever idea you have in the text you're making, then you have failed. You don't just get to say, "Well in my mind I always thought Ziv Zulander was a robot too" after the series is dead and gone.

I'd say the same thing for things that have open interpretations. If a text supports multiple readings because you have failed to sufficiently close the door on some of them, then coming out and saying it's only one of them is an admission of your inability to write/direct and nothing else.

In general, don't come out and make clarifications on your work, unless it's in the form of a revision.

She was friends with Sarah's roommate Dana, but dismissed any problems with Dana after her mother died.

When Sarah decided Dana needed help and alerted her father, resulting in Dana leaving, Raidah concluded Sarah was just a buzzkill who hated fun and Dana and just wanted a quiet room to study in.

Then Raidah spearheaded the estrangement that led to Sarah becoming a cynical introvert.

Also she's Muslim or from a Muslim family, or something.
>>
>>89203686
Death of the Author should be taught in every high school's literature program. All that matters is whether you can defend your interpretation better than the other guy. Fahrenheit 451 is alwayd going to be about censorship, even if Bradbury believed that it was about the corruption of modern media on society

That said, I think the internet gives Rowling too much and too little credit. I can definitely see myself writing in character details for a story that end up not getting portrayed because the story ended up not needing that trait. It's something that happens when you worldbuild the fuck out of a story, and just because you weren't able to put it into the story doesn't mean it's not true (Of course, if I were Rowling, I would have used stuff like Pottermore or compilation books to write short stories in that same universe that show off those traits that are good story fodder but weren't suitable for a coming-of-age fantasy story, but I digress). And I vaguely remember hearing that she corrected a scriptwriter on one of the movies about Dumbledore's sexuality, so it wasn't a spur of the moment thing.

It's when post-work postscripts violate the actual text of the work that I get pissed. Which is, naturally, why Willis always gets my goat

While I agree with you on Robin and Leslie, I like Danny and Sal's dynamic in DoA, and I'm bummed because I think they probably won't ever get together.

I posted this in an older thread:
>It's a rehash, but I liked the Danny Sal stuff. He gets a backbone around her, and she treats him like he's incredibly harmless. I'd love to see the dynamic there change because of an emotional connection to where they start dating from the same level. Unlike with Dorothy and Amazi-Girl, where I think he put them on a pedestal, which is a similar deal to that one time with Billie.

With the current situation I could see them having a chance meeting. Danny is down about Amber, Sal is down about Marcie. Danny is happy to see someone to talk to, while Sal is still pissed about him telling her off last time they talked.

>>

>>89208483
I was thinking about a relative lack of inter-connectivity between characters. Sure, all of the characters are connected, but they aren't ALL connected to each other in some way, in that they all haven't have strong stories with each other. You have Sarah and Joyce, you have Amber and Sal, you have Dorothy and Walky, et cetera. But there is still a strong amount of room for expansion and improvement; Willis should consider setting aside stories he wants to tell with X & Y and A & B, and consider stories with X & B and A & Z. Know what I mean?

That's why I looked to Joyce/Danny strips. They've only had two strips of direct interaction across all six years and all 1800+ strips.

>the "Dumbledore was gay all along, guys...promise!" spin.
Christ you people are everywhere.
"Dumbledore is gay" was NOT a publicity spin by Rowling. She got a version of a script for movie 6 that had Dumbledore recount an old flame referring to them as "her" and probably in enough detail to be unambiguously a woman, and Rowling returned the script with the note "Dumbledore's gay" to reject the additional writing. Someone on the development team broke that story. In the books proper Rowling never needed to say that because it was unimportant to the plot and could really be gleamed from the last book only (Dumbledore was going to run away with Grindelwald and seemed heartbroken about him, that stuff's pretty blatant)

Okay, as far as 'clumsily reaching out to black people' goes, this is better than 'mommy hated me because I came out darker', but not...good.

It reminds me of when Willis wrote Ethan complaining about how everything started revolving around his gayness (gayosity?) while giving him nothing but plotlines about his sexuality. Jacob is saying a thing that is technically true about black guys (and guys in a lot of other minorities) but it doesn't work here because 80-90% of Jacob's screentime has been as a lust object, either for Sarah or Ethan or, in the case of his pin-up, anyone in Willis's fanbase who likes dudes. It is, by far, the most pertinent fact about Jacob (even if there are only 4-6 facts to know about Jacob).

In fact, he specifically gave Walky, his only other black(ish) main character, a goddamn rocket for a penis, so I'm not sure where he got the stepladder to get on this fucking high horse

is it possible for someone whose asexual to have a sex addiction? (for reasons other than actual desire, obviously) trying to figure out if jacob being ace could actually work

id ask in the comments but im avoiding them out of spite
>>
>>89221776
I think it's possible. They may be addicted to masturbation, which could happen if they are not attracted to other people.

They can also be addicted to the feelings sex gives them, even though they are not attracted to the person or anyone else.

Sex releases endorphins, so it's quite possible for an asexual person to have sex with someone they're not attracted to and then want those feelings again and again.
>>
>>89221402
The problem with Jacob is that he doesn't have a storyline that involves him, just one that revolves around him. The entire point of the speech he gives in this strip is panel 6; this story isn't about Jacob, it's about Sarah.

That being said, I'm finding myself liking Jacob and Joyce's interaction. The idea that Jacob "gets" Joyce and can understand where she's coming from on some level is a nice change of pace from how everyone usually interacts with her.
>>

>>
>>89223615
>>89222499
Really, it's a different type of privilege. The only times it's a real problem is when people are getting sexually aggressive and when you're in a love triangle.

Love triangles are the worst. You think they're awesome and fun, but they are not. Avoid at all costs.

The more prominent your attractiveness is, the more people think they have the right to touch it. I don't know why. I have a thicc booty, so quite a few people that I even consider my friends have thought it's fun to grab my butt, even though I am a VERY private person and my butt is very much off-limits. But it's big, so people want to touch it.

But I don't think Jacob is getting groped.

People can fantasize about him if they want to. It's generally really easy to tell when people only want you for how you look. Jacob doesn't seem to have that problem. Sarah isn't actively going after him--just lusting in the privacy of her own brain.

Unless Jacob is planning on joining the Thought Police, he can kindly take his nose out of everyone else's heads.

And unless Jacob is actively getting groped and propositioned, then he's just being narcissistic by even bringing it up in the way he did. If it was a real, actual problem, then he would be talking about how he's so attractive to people that they come up and grope him, and it makes him uncomfortable. But instead, he's trying to shoehorn his own Xtreme attractiveness into a conversation about Joyce and Ethan dating. I call BS, Jacob.
>>

Curses! I didn't take his undying neediness and vanity into account!
>>
>>89223932
Given the fact that he's a black guy (and the fact that I'm a black guy), I interpreted his speech as focusing on the specific racially-tinged sexual objectification that black guys often get. The sort of people who automatically assume that you have a big penis and are an animal in bed are often the same people who'll automatically call you Tyrone/Jamal/Any Black Basketball Player and assume that you're an animal in real life. At best, you mentally get lumped in with the one black celebrity they like. At worst, you're considered subhuman in a way that fetishizes your subhumanity

It makes more sense to me that way because it would be Willis screwing up representing minority interests by ignoring how he himself exploits them (see >>89221402)
>>
>>89220937
>A dude talking about sexual objectification
>So progressive
meh

Also the idea that Joe doesn't know how Jacob feels about this, when they are good friends, yet all he talks about is sex, is baffling.

This is also more of a burn on Willis' dumb brain. Ever since Jacob was introduced, his main concept has been hot black man (and the degree to which hot and black were separated was always in contention). And other characters who have been lusted over like Mike or Joe, never were presented as lusted over in the same way as their primary value. But now Willis is 'making commentary.' Dude, you're making commentary based off your own shitty prejudices not mine. And I severely doubt you'll start giving this quaternary character a ton of development into something more than a sex object without any sexual attractiveness.

I'm kinda reminded of listening to Dan Harmon talk about race, and realizing he has these prejudices he doesn't realize, or these big holes he doesn't know about while he stumbles around. Difference is, Harmon has this constant idea that he's gonna be wrong, so forgive him and he's there to learn, whereas Willis thinks he's preaching a sermon of egalitarianism. Fuck off.
>>
>>89220937

Attractive people tend to have increasingly messed up senses of self-worth and accomplishment the more attractive they are due to a perception by others that attractive people don't have to try hard or be good at something because people will give them a pass for being attractive combined with the fact that some people will do exactly that for attractive people. Also if you constantly have people trying to get into your pants you might start thinking everyone is trying to get into your pants unless proven otherwise.

>>89226467
Surprisingly I don't think this is the case, considering that Jacob is dating a black woman, is being lusted after by a black woman, and the only white woman who has shown an interest in him ducked out the moment she found out he didn't want to bone. While Willis has a shitton of issues regarding his prejudices that he seems unwilling to address, I don't think it's any different than making all of Ethan's plotlines about him being gay or making the Rapin' Ryan arc about Amber instead of Joyce.

For some reason Sal chose to start talking in a southern accent even though neither of their parents do

>>
>>89240012

It's exactly the same color. I remember someone checking, and it's the same exact hex code for the color.

It's just the naturally kinky hair like >>89240078
said, the fact she smokes (probably Newport brand) cigarettes, and that she robs convenience stores that makes her "blacker".
>>
>>89240012
They're the same colour. Sal is talking about how her hair is naturally more kinky. And then later on Walky was quiet and nerdy(read: white), while Sal was outspoken and violent (read: black).

Willis has really failed to show his work on the parental favouritism, let alone the racial aspect. I'm fine with the concept that her resorting to crime is a product of poor parenting, but he really should show some of how they treated her in basic situations, that would lead to her feeling less of a person than Walky.

>>89240144
She talks in a "southern" accent ostensibly because she got sent to a boarding school in Tennessee (?). Although, I'm not sure if the age when she went would actually cause her to pick that up. Also, her accent seems incredibly poorly done, and might not match the region? I dunno enough about US accents to comment, but I did see those issues raised in earlier threads.
>>
>>89220937
Not to completely ignore the issue of being seen as only a sex object, but I think attractive people generally get more opportunities than their homelier colleagues. And not just in sex related areas, but just across the board. They're more likely to get good jobs or good positions, because people react positively to them.

So in some ways it's bunk to complain about your looks holding you back, when those looks will often give you a leg up over someone with similar qualifications who isn't as attractive.

Yes, to some extent, people might treat you as a bimbo, especially if there's other prejudices that make them think you can't be smart. So, I'm sure Jacob could encounter that stuff in theory, but him acting like his attractiveness is just a burden that will keep him from being anything more than a pretty face isn't entirely true.

Even the example of Sarah doesn't really hold up, because while she is ignoring some of the things he says, she has still had more of a connection with him than with most of the other characters. Despite her misanthropy, she lets him in, because he's sexy. That's way more than she's willing to give to others, even if it's not coming from not the best place.

Yeah, this basically hinges on whether Willis perceives intelligence or being streetwise as intrinsically "white" or "black" traits.

Of course, asking him about this will make him break out his suburban angst about his racist past, and make the whole issue about him. Again.

I disagree.

#CEA87E is too insecure to be cute, even though they put up a strong front. It gets grating after a while having someone shut down anyone trying to help them.

In contrast, I like how #CEA87E keeps their deepest fears bottled up inside, just waiting for that special someone that they can truly trust and open themselves up to.

Specifically, they locked Galasso in a cage for at least six months, and at on point he had to drink his own urine because they forgot to feed him.

He fired them when he got out, then rehired them a while later because he was going out of business with no employees to man the store.

Why he didn't just hire new people, I don't know.

There was actually a strip way, way back where Danny calls Walky 'Mowgli'

That sort of casual microaggression shit is just the sort of thing that Willis would write a subplot about today, and, honestly, it woulf be better than the Walky/Sal stuff
>>
>>89240012
Long story short, it's Willis trying to write about intraracial prejudice in the context of family relationships.

Since this is Willis, and he is incapable of writing about a topic more complex than 'RACISM IS BAD' without fucking it up, it comes off as Sal conflating any and all incidents of bad parenting with her interaction with and adherence to black stereotypes, in a way that makes Willis seem even more racist than before.

It's basically the same formula that you see in most 'Willis tries to be socially progressive' episodes. It's just that this is one of the few times it's applied to race
>>
>>89245484
It doesn't necessarily help that Sal is objectively a worse child than Walky. After all, Walky doesn't have an arrest record.

I'm not surprised. She has that self-righteousness and loudness that, ironically enough, makes very good moderators in communities based around sex stuff (and, occasionally, very bad ones). And BDSM and LGBT tend to mix a lot (to the point that most of the girls I've met who were into BDSM were bi or gay), so I can see her getting into that community through whatever LGBT support network she has.

I feel bad for the decent guys who frequent where she works though. Considering how many assholes with a poor understanding of what a sub is come into those kinds of communities and fuck shit up, any guy who comes into that sort of place is automatically under extra scrutiny. And I'm sure that if you accidentally piss off Cerebus, she'd get you blacklisted by every other girl in the area.

I think Willis is trying to make more of a character out of Jacob than we've been built up for him to be. Like, it's not like he's being shoved in our faces as much as Becky was, but it's more like Willis is treating him as a regular character while never actually having had him appear for more than three strips. Know what I mean?

Anyways, the secret password is "episcopalian".

Also, I think Willis is starting to forget again that Joyce's wrist-brace is supposed to be a solid chunk of plaster or something, and not more flexible.

Turns out all you need to do is tell Joyce she's right and that you don't ever want to bang her and she starts gazing longingly into your eyes.

Sounds like an interesting diversion, although the reaction to how the church is being described so far doesn't bode well. I will say that "hippie church" is only Joyce's knee jerk reaction to Jacob talking about female pastors and being cool with gays. Although I wouldn't be surprised if he continues to mischaracterize that denomination if we ever get to see them.
>>
>>89249088
Episcopalian is traditionally seen as the P in WASP. It's closely linked with the upper crust due to the extensive amount of English settlers in early America. The Anglican Communion is one of the more liberal of the large Christian denominations, however it is a communion of 38 functionally independent provinces with aligned but not homogeneous doctrine and liturgy.

for sure, but something like familial racism is a pretty nuanced topic. nuance isn't really Willi's strong suit. so they look the same, they're both petulant and insufferable, they're both capable enough to make it to college despite academic indifference. there's not a lot of daylight separating them as siblings, and the only "proof" we've seen in comic of their parent's bias is they got different sized care packages. packages we still haven't seen the contents of
