yeah pretty much, i mean like a year ago, i did wanted to make this web comic whatever, posted it here on /co/ which was my biggest mistake ever and all i got was being shitted on, but i guess it was deserved cause the art and writing was shit.

this is why we usually have the sticky. no matter,
you can do the bullshit like tumblr or tapastic or whatever, and have a lot less control, but apparently some kind of automatic promotion?
or you can go to a simple webcomic site that helps you with a lot of the work, like drunkduck, comicgenesis, comicfury, and still have full control over how your site looks

or you can do everything totally manually and buy your own site.. the upside there is you can start selling adspace. but it's best to save that til you're already hot shit

Style question: large eyes or proportional eyes? Which is more appealing to a general audience?

The proportional eyes I draw are more expressive, but the large cartoonish ones are more charming. To frame the question, it's for a serious comic.
>>
>>89171005
large and proportional eyes that are expressive and charming.
>>
>>89171005
I always find myself spending more time looking at big eyes, reading what's there and just enjoying the way they look.

>>
>>
My comic is furry cub porn. So I probably shouldn't post it.
>>
>>89171005
Both can work, both can appeal to a general audience but in different ways. Sillier and cutesier stories often benefit from big ol' puppy dog eyes on every character, while more serious and mature series may be better received if they had a more realistic art style. This is not to say you can't write a serious story where the characters have big eyes, but keep in mind you may be hitting the anime/catoon fan audience more than the general public. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, though, as more anime/cartoon fans read webcomics than average Joes, so make of it what you will.

Why do so many amateur writers try to structure their stories like video games?

I've been working on a webcomic idea for the past few weeks, and I have the main 5 character's basics pretty solid and the basic plot of the story, but I'm not sure how to progress from where I am. General tips?
>>
>>89178201
Focus on one or two characters and decide on what you want to express with them. Do you want to tell a parable? Are you doing a character study? Maybe you have something you want to say.

More than characters or setting or style, having a strong idea about what you want to say is key.
>>
>>89177242
Unless it's insanely bad, 99% of readers do not care about samefags.
It's incredibly common and you'll usually only hear artist bring it up.
>>
>>89177663
It's less video game structure and more battle shounen structure.

Any guides/tips on how to write 'old timey' post-civil war americans(a few years after the war) and minorities(past or modern) without getting put through a witchhunt?
Specifically native americans but I'm down for reading up on anything really even for future references.

I've been around and lived with hardcore native americans and a muslim family straight up from egypt but I don't know any anymore so I can't just ask them. The setting I have in mind does include monsters/cryptids that typically manifest or have different appearances to a person depending on their beliefs. Monsters from eldritch abominations to the fur-baring trout. Kinda like an old west silent hill.
Since its a few years after the Civil War and would like to keep things fairly accurate to an extent I really can't just skip over it completely.

I'll probably ask /his/ later as well.
>>
>>89179138
Even if you knew any minorities, they wouldn't be able to tell you how their people lived at that time, just like white people wouldn't know anything about the lives of their great great great grandparents. The only way is for you to do a lot of research, and be very mindful of history revisionists.
Also, there's no way to be accurate and not piss off the pc crowd, if they want to be angry about your story they will find a way, be if for the "disrespectful" way you handle writing "insert opressed minorities here", or how your story doesn't have any strong female character, maybe the way your characters speak to female characters.
My point is, do your research, write what you want to write and don't cave in if they come for you.
>>
>>89179411
Oh, I knew that. For the mention of the families I meant that as I had some modern experience with them, and would be down for tips/guides on writing them in present times for future references of other works on top of the other era.
I think I've pretty liberal with adding minorities and strong woman who don't need no man in my art without being conscious about it and haven't gotten any blacklash from it in the 15 years I've uploaded to the internet. I haven't put much up in the past couple years and I'm not very up to date with internet politics. I think you're right, and there's always a chance for blacklash so I guess I'm just trying to not committing the worst racial sins to lessen the potential shitstorms.

Whether it's Dragonball Z or Bleach, it doesn't matter, writers should be better than that. You are allowed to have bad taste anyway, we are not arguing people can't enjoy video game comics, Anon was confused as to why it's so common.
>>
>>89181922
Thanks m8
>>
>>89181975
That's the thing though, Dragonball has excellent story telling for what it wants to be. If you're a webcomic creator, chances are, you are not even remotely close to Toriyama's level of story telling, yet you already firmly believe you can look down on him.
I think people like you don't even understand what good story telling is, they just have these ideas of what is considered cool and hip and what is considered mainstream and stupid and that's how they make up their mind. A simple heroe's journey told in a competent manner is vastly superior storytelling than any wannabe deep and convoluted drivel amateurs tend to create when they think they are above any of the proven tropes and archetypes.
>>
>>89182304
I think the motivation of "(things I like) are missing (aspect I desire), I want to make something similar but put that in!" is a fine, fine motivation. It drives a lot of us.
>>
>>89180948
Sometimes I fall off the path for a short while, and draw random nonsense, but I haven't in awhile.
>>
>>89182304
You missed the point of my examples, Dragonball Z is "a writer just enjoying himself", Bleach is the "writer thinking he has some deep message to convey". And it doesn't matter, they are both bad.

Dragonball was pretty good, it's nothing special, it gets dangerously close to being one of the "video game" manga, but it manages to be above that by building fun stories with charming characters on top of those elements.
In any case, just because I can't write something on that level, doesn't mean I can't realize its flaws or be able to criticize it.

The rest of what you said are just stupid assumptions about me that have nothing to do with what I said.
>>
>>89182304
Most of the "Z" part is legit trash, man.
>>
>>89183659
>Nothing special
His writing, sure, but his sense for pacing is impeccable, his compositions and panel work are spectacular, he's incredible at designing machines and monsters, and he's got a unique style.

Toriyama's not a good writer, but he's a wonderful artist and director. As long as you're not trying to copy him, he's a great regerence for action and pacing.

I can tell from your understanding that your own comic is pretty good. Idiots are quick to dismiss DB/DBZ because of popular opinions and memes (lol just guys yelling at each other) without understanding what made it so big in the first place. It takes someone who seriously looks at comics to see how revolutionary his paneling/action scenes were. If Tezuka is the father of manga, Toriyama is the father of action manga. His techniques and influence are seen in some of the most successful manga today (one piece, jojo, naruto).

>>
>>89187362
like, zero. I thought the whole thing was just how they had mistreated the kraken because they were dicks, and now they were going to pay because it turned out it served a purpose. I fell for it!
Then again I could have sworn we already saw the kraken in a flashback or a carving or something and it looked specifically like something else. I know because anytime it's not a squid I'm like 'pfff should be a squid'
>>
>>89184048
> the seahorse
> Grandpa continuing to defend his forgetting

Your work is so charming, I love this

>>89185609
I only have a small bit of experience, but I recommend just having the story or section of the chapter planned and outlined well first.

Just an example, if you upload once a week, thumbnail the month's comics. Look for potential rises and falls in the action and thumbnail the pages side-by-side so you can visualize which pages will be more visually interesting, which will help you "forecast" the pacing that month.

If it's an exposition page, I try to at least make it prettier so that the reader didn't come for just words.
>>
>>89187566
Ok so I guess the problem I'm having is, When making thumbnails based on my script, I'm trying to set the pacing - how do I set each page based on the ups and downs of the story

Also a different question, how do I add filler or small talk to spread the pacing? I don't want the characters to just sit around not doing much

Thanks anon
>>
>>89188199
It's hard to give instructions on how to write smalltalk. It has to just flow naturally. In my case, usually too much when it's not needed
>>
>>89188199
Pacing comes from time and buildup built upon a few pages. Something I see pretty often is to slow down the dialogue right before the next page where the "impact" or revelation occurs.

In regards to your second question, dialogue scenes are a golden opportunity to do close-ups, facial expressions, body language, and shot composition. The reader might appreciate the break from high energy scenes by getting to see your characters' faces.
>>
>>89188199
In addition, I thought this guy came up with a few good examples of how to make a page look faster or slower

It would look nicer if you didn't have those white bits around your lineart. Do you scan your lineart in and fillbucket it?
>>
>>89195903
yeah
>>
>>89195964
There's a few ways around that. The most preferred one is to color _under_ your lines using different layer modes.
me, I prefer aliasing. You can select the whole magilla and use 'threshold' to turn it all black and white. But that might not look very good on your lines, at least not before you copy them a few times.
>>
>>89195964
Your art program likely has a "multiply" setting for layers. Put the scan of your lineart on a layer set to multiply and color beneath the lineart later. this will eliminate the white spots, but allow the black linear to remain.
Another way is to take your lineart layer and "convert luminesence to transparency." This will turn all of the white spots on the scan of your lineart completely transparent, and leave your lineart anti-aliased. Again, you will be able to color your lineart on the layer below after doing this.

Ok, I got a question for everyone: Do you have a preference for the size of a webcomic page or the number of panels per update?

If a comic drawn to the format of a printed comicbook page was published weekly, would you prefer a single, full page per week? Or two updates with 3-5 panels (or a big splash panel) each?
>>
>>89196766
Well keep in mind that the number/size of panels per page can affect pacing. The more panels/events per page, the faster the comic feels. The fewer panels/events, the slower the pacing feels.
>>
>>89196766
it depends completely on what kind of comic it is
i'll tell you that comics that try to use the same basic format and pacing as traditional published comics, that is 20 pages or so to tell a short story in 8.5x11ish pages, I hate it when any of those pages have under 3 panels, or if the majority of them have under 5
>>
>>89196880
>>89196931

Yes, completely agree on all of those points.

But all things being equal, would you prefer to read say 8 panels in a single update per week, or two updates with 4 panels each? Or do you not have any preference as long as the flow of the page was not hindered by splitting it?
>>
>>89197189
To be honest I barely care how many panels I'm reading at all if the content is interesting. You're thinking critically about pacing and the optimal ways to do so, which is good, but it's better not to worry about it so much that it interrupts your flow.

In short if your reader enjoys what they see they won't care about the amount of panels.
>>
>>89197189
I would say... don't interrupt an 8-panel chunk just to update more often. if it ends in a nonsensical spot, and now the 'fifth' panel follows it up directly and you've already forgotten what it follows from, then you're doin' it wrong
>>
>>89197356
>>89197310
Fair points once again. I had originally planned to do everything in 10.5"x7" pages, and that hasn't changed, but as I got a better feel for layouts and got into meatier parts of the script, I noticed that I had increased panel density quite a bit over the early pages (which I generally like) and that they also frequently divided neatly into upper and lower halves. Which is why I started toying with the idea of making it two updates instead of one.

I do like how many of these half pages look, because it means the whole image can fit on screen without needing to zoom in for full detail. And it lends itself well to emphasizing the art in individual panels. But, since the overall layout is still one page, and I write the script to have natural breaks between pages, it does certainly run the risk of not being worthwhile in all cases.
>>
>>89197540
Realized I worded that ambiguously; I meant I generally prefer the look of the newer, denser pages, as half a page is still plenty of room for a splash when extra impact is desired.

Watermelons. Earthmelons. Firemelons. Airmelons.

Long ago, the four melons grew together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Firemelons went on sale. Only the gardener, master of all four cultivars, could stop them. But when the world needed him most, he retired.

—–

Firemelons are a common food among the Miotal, creatures made of rock that live in water and eat fire. Scientists who try to categorize all lifeforms into one element find the Miotal incredibly frustrating, and classify them as “probably Air somehow, the bastards”. Miotal are often found near the raft villages of the Sceitimini (also known as Water Fairies), who help them socialize with the more civilized races in exchange for manual labor or guidance through the ocean. Water Fairies tend to by primarily Earth or Air-associated, despite living on the ocean and having Water in their names, because everything has to be confusing now.

How sinful is it to make 3D renders of reoccurring props/vehicles/environments to draw over and keep dimensions consistent?

I hear it criticized often when sci-fi comics/cartoons use CGI as an aid but I'd think it would be excusable for someone making a comic completely on their own. Pic related.
>>
>>89203468
It's actually one of the most sensible things you could do. Herge had a model made of the rocket in "Destination Moon" which he used for reference, and I've heard of artists who assemble model kits of tanks and planes for them to refer to.

Assembling 3D objects and environments in programs like Google Sketchup is just another tool for artists to use, particularly when it's something that's going to be re-used a lot.
>>
>>89192572
There is something weird about the way you draw breasts.
some of the hand positions in this and in the comic pages you posted are a bit strange too
>>
>>89203468
the general issue with cgi and in cartoons/anime is that the cgi is almost always very obviously and jarring as it doesnt fit with the art style.
As long as it still looks like it fits in your style, you are fine
>>
>>89203468
Fuck people who say using models or 3D renders are an "easy mode" for artists. People have been using references since the dawn of art itself, and you'll only get better the more you use them because your eye and brain learn how those three dimensions objects look from multiple angles over time.

Hi /co/, I'm going to make a web comic, it's my first time making a webcomic, but do not fear for I will stay committed all the way through and my artistic skills are at least above average. (I know it's not much to brag about)

I understand that reading this without seeing any material is somewhat silly but i don't want to show anything until I have a reasonable pitch made and at least 60-80% of the story written out. I'm in college right now and I thought that this would be great for improving my skills in both storytelling and art.

Like I said before I don't want go give shitty first impression to readers and that's why I'll be starting chapter one in mid to late 2017.

If all goes well I can start producing weekly content in June.

Here is a vague plot summary:

>Due to unfortunate circumstances several people are transported to a strange and and surreal world where they must find their missing friend and return home. However they soon get caught up in local politics and eventually uncover a secret plot of complete and utter destruction of all sentient life as we know it.

I'm writing this with someone who is a much better writer than I am so I have secondary input. ( hoping two heads really are better than one)

I'll be making a prologue to my story and will post it soon.

Sorry for being this vague, I assure it's not just a shit post, I'm just trying not to give things away before I'm sure that I can deliver on them.

True but the devil is in the details, and some of the best comics/movies use generic plots.

But you have no reason to believe my content is good, I understand, I simply as you to not be overly cynical.

I may yet prove myself to /co/.

Plus while the plot is generic I assure you the setting is NOT, it will have certain cliches but it's going to have an original spin on them.

Ether way until anyone sees something they won't be able to truthfully decide on the quality of the work.
>>
>>89207818

1. Your summary has no interesting information. It just recounts the broadest cliches that everyone's seen a million times.

Nothing wrong with the simple plot in itself, but there's literally nothing to go on.

There needs to be more information than what you gave us. Who are the people we're following? What's unique about the alternate world?

2. I don't recommend releasing a story-driven product page-by-page on a weekly basis, unless you're 100% sure you can competently keep the audience interested with those single pages at a time. It requires more work on your part to ensure that an adequate amount of information is given with each release, as well as avoiding poor pacing that can occur. It's not impossible, but it's a difficult thing most webcomics fail at doing.
>>
>>89207886
I just read through it.
The style isn't really my type but it has its own charm. The art itself and your handle on action and perspective is good

I understand, I wish I had more info to give but I simply can't. My partner wants to release any and all information about this web comic AFTER the prologue goes up.

I guess I could say some more stuff...

it's set in a surreal fantasy world that has technology equivalent to 1940ts, there will be 3 main characters.

A boy accused of killing his best friends, the father of said friend, who seeks revenge for his daughters death and a man who wants nothing more than to escape his monotonous life and experience the world the same way early explorers did.

The story will shift perspectives chapter by chapter.

I can probably give out more information but it would be against my partners decision.
>>
>>89208560

>>
>>89208605

I mean, I'm not going to post unfinished sketches, I think that it's better to post nothing than post garbage that you KNOW isn't finished and won't attract readers.

Plus teasing an audience is a great way of building hype, even if the hype is virtually non-existent, it's just a smart move for an individual who wants his story to be heard.

I mean you could say otherwise but it would be in a very strong sense "subjective".
>>
>>89207818
Boy this sounds very similar to the way I would word my webcomic project if I actually did do it.
It even got the vague as fuck generic plot.
But dude seriously you have to disclose more.
>>
>>89208591

It's already more interesting with the new info.

Opinion: Your partner sounds like one of those "I must protect my brilliant ideas lest they get stolen" kinds of people. And those kind of people need to grow up; ideas are a dime in a dozen and nothing is original. Execution is what matters. I personally don't expect a writer at that stage to be good at writing.
>>
>>89208591
Upes. Didn't update the page.
"a boy accused of killing his best friend" sounds a bit far fetched.
>>
>>89208758
Dude, if you want to discuss your writing you have to commit to...you know, actual writing. Coming up with themes and ideas and grappling with how to best convey them.

Even if you're a terrible artist you can discuss things like panel composition, line weight, color theory, page flow, dynamic versus static poses and when to use either, caricature and level of abstraction, etc. What you're doing right now is essentially regurgitating the cliffnotes of things you've seen before and then saying "no i guys i swear itll be different but i refuse to explain."

You're not helping us or yourself. You're just begging for attention.
>>
>>89208758

You can't hype anything if no one has expectations outside of it coming from a random person on the internet. So the expectation is automatically low unless there's some kind of evidence that you can make a good product worth hyping.
>>
>>89208838

It's not really about being afraid of theft, it's more about not misleading an audience.

One goal we both have is to tell a good and logically written story without plot holes or flat characters.

At the moment we don't have much to show, most of it is on paper, but we take notes, we brain-storm, the base of the story has already been though out but it's not yet complete.

We have the most crucial things done though, the end is pretty good right now (even though it's a little rough around the edges) and I think that while the prologue will be rough and short it will serve its purpose and hopefully make people curious.
>>
>>89208841

Really? Because that's the point.
>>
>>89209033
Is it now?
>>
>>89209014
>At the moment we don't have much to show

Then you're literally wasting everyone's time here. That's a pretty bad first impression.
>>
>>89208877

But that's why I'm here, I'll simply put out something to let people know to look forward to seeing something new.(on a thread made exactly for that)

I never claimed it to be different, I simply said I'm trying my best to make the world unique.
>>
>>89208429

Question for creators of long-running stories. How much character and worldbuilding do you feel needs to be established before moving into your inciting action?

I feel that there's a risk that you can dawdle for too long before substantial stuff actually happens, or alternatively you can end up throwing your characters into the plot and the audience doesn't give a shit due to lack of context.

Thoughts?

>>

Very good post, sadly I can't say much on the topic.

My advice is to add just enough world building, just enough to understand what going on but not enough to become boring.
>>
>>89209426
Study 3-act structure (yes, it applies to long running stories too)
You're talking about act 1, which should be for priming the reader on what's coming in act 2. Keyword: priming. Drop enough hints for the viewer to not be completely blindsided. But don't info bomb them. They don't need every single detail about the new "world" you're introducing before you introduce it.
>>
>>89209510

Heehee, you can never go wrong with beetles.

Well they are thieves who want to steal an artifact from the main characters which is crucial to their quest (underdeveloped part of the story). The large one's name is Aaov and he is the bulk of the group, speaks in a low-pitch voice. He is usually quiet and not very aggressive. The small stag beetle doesn't have a name yet, his personality is that he is very aggressive and is easily angered, he can fight by charging while flying or using his mandibles. There here is also a third one which i did not fully draw yet (basically looks like a flower beetle but with a wasp-like head, long moth-like antennae, and swamp green coloring) he is the leader of the group with no current particular character traits (and no name either). All three get along fairly well with each other.

Also here's a doodle I mate a while back of one of the main characters. (with no name either. I'm quite bad at names).

I'm gonna share a slightly different project

I recently started an essay blog where I write about comics: https://gutter-space.com/2017/01/16/batman-and-catwoman-run-out-of-time-in-batman-14/

My first essay up (linked above) isn't perfect but I think it's a decent starting point. It helped me work through some interesting ideas, but it got a bit convoluted somewhere along the way. I'm already thinking about how to improve and looking to the next one.
>>
>>89203942

I've noticed that myself, actually. I'm not sure how I can fix it though at this point, I feel like my problem might just be a lack of life studies and/or not enough drawing outside the comic...

>>89209288

I think there was one or two guys that told me that. I've kind of half taken their advice in so far as I heavily reworked the plot of what I was working on which I do feel ended up making for a stronger end result. I mean I definitely see the point they're making to me but working with these two characters is just fun for me at this point and I worry that forcing myself to abandon them will take the fun out of comicking. Am I stunting my creative development by doing so? That's kind of hard to say.

I also forgot to say that after this chapter I will be doing remakes of old chapters (In black and white) for blu trinity so that they can be sold in stores.

I feel like some of these criticisms are a bit harsh, but I think you should try to do some character design reworks.
Your characters lack a visual identity. Cartoon girl and cartoon guy look like any other cartoon girl and guy. Demon girl resembles Marceline, and demon guy looks like some background thug character.
I'd say bug girl, alien lady, and fish lady probably have the best designs because they're the most unique. They look weirder, more unusual.
Try playing around with shapes some more. Try simplifying your designs, don't be afraid to try something that looks unusual to you, is out of your comfort zone. You definitely have the passion for this project, but you need to put in the polish.
>>
>>89214858

are you looking for sweetness as a phenomenon, or sugar specifically? because to me sweetness is very light, pink, pastel.. it's all up-ness and brightness, a recharge and a stimulation, or if it's syrupy dense sweetness, then it's like being held gently by strong arms.
but if it's specifically sugar i'd go with very spotty imagery, very plain but orderly.. uncomplex.. sort of a very nice regular grid that is itself still pleasant, possibly a hexagonal grid with spots in the center of each cell

An anti hero of sorts, she's going to join Brenner's team in his chapter of the next part.

She loves to be evil but she just hates seeing murder for some odd reason in her heart and will always try to save the day if she see's someone in trouble.

May or may not be related to Annabeth, who knows, but she does worship Leafy (Leifa isn't even her real name) and has a hand on her head that she thinks is constantly petting her, and gets super defensive if it's made fun of or taken off her head.

>just say you're a weeaboo,

I don't understand this slang. My google search brings up a comic involving paddling?

My comic doesn't have paddling in it, just Japanese sound effects to compliment the comic's thematic goals and influences, knowing that it's weird and jarring compared to the comic's main visual influences and setting, therefore it's a funny juxtaposition.
>>
>>89230876
A weeabo is a westerner who's obsessed with Japanese pop culture in a real cringy way, you know like those obnoxious anime nerds who will randomly insert Japanese words into their speech ("that baby is like SO kawaii, don't you think, Margaret-chan?"). That kinda thing.

'Course, around here, anyone who indicate they like any anime whatsoever is instantly labelled a weeabo. It's what fans of western animation do to feel superior.

Try to think up about color palettes when you are drawing landscapes and backgrounds so its less flashy to read and more digestable.

>>89240807
you hate when cartoons look vissually appealing?
>>
>>89240807
Can you be more specific about what's wrong there?

I assume something that looks like this must be done to get the animators and background artists on the same page.
>>
>>89240849
I hate when everything's tinted as if hit by a colored light or viewed through a filter. I hate it in real life too. But the show that pissed me off the most with it was Batman Beyond, which used it extremely heavily (and to decent effect) in rave scenes, so the background people would be one color and those you were meant to focus on, another color.. Makes a little sense if the lights are shining on different areas, and helps you focus, but in general just gives me a headache.
>>
>>89240981
Now that you explain it that way I kind of see what you mean.

What are some examples of shows that you think use color well? Genuinely curious because I didn't notice the tinted effects in the example as heavily as you

It doesnt needs to be in full neon colors but with no color pallette any colored comic book, cartoon and movie will look like a mess of the first colors you found.
Even realistic painting does this
>>
>>89241083
I'm too ignorant of it to judge, really. I tend to mentally filter out naturalistic tinting, such as adding a blue filter for night, or cranking up saturation on a sunny day, but I can tell you a comic that does it damn well and that's Carrion Girls. I also remember it standing out a lot in Tenchi, in scenes when there was some kind of intense green glow. Other than that the only show I can say that stands out in my memory as being colored well is Pokémon, in the days when it still used cels. The vivid greens of shrubbery and the bright stylized red and gold of fire attacks really stuck with me.
>>
>>89241174
That's actually pretty helpful and with good examples. A friend of mine is completely colorblind and I'm always asking what stuff looks like to him. There are certain cartoons and movies he looks at that give him a headache as well because they're off.
>>
>>89241549
Interesting..
I do sometimes notice if colors are slightly off from usual. Then you have major shit like the aforementioned Pokémon where once they switched to digital coloring, they changed musashi's bright candy-apple-red hair to a much more purple hue... and it was like, what gives? then later, when her doppelganger from a previous episode returned, she had her original hair color, so they didn't match anymore.

Not the guy who post Mlaatr, but I did a quick paintover of the last panel of our page. The main issue with your coloring is the oversaturation. Everything is highly saturated and there's no harmony to the colors, which results in panels looking busy and lacking focus. The rule of thumb is to make your focal point more saturated than the rest of the image. Additionally, you should look into atmospheric perspective, color theory, and usage of color/value in composition as well.

Are fan-fiction crossover comics web comics?
>>
>>89252992
If you post them on the web, sure. But don't.
>>
>>89246492
...are you actually retarded or something?

You could start by making the armrest wider than one of your character's fingers. Maybe try not making it so miniscule that it barely even qualifies as a seat? What about placing it on the same plane as your character? That might help a smidge.

>Confident my art style looks decent
>Learning anatomy through life drawing to boost it
>Still have the aching feeling my style reeks of "your highschool art teacher told you to stop drawing anime so you found middleground" though
>>
>>89254330
to be honest I always stay away from more realistic drawing comics because they arent as expressive, middle ground anime has its charm and its a style pretty popular in this generation.
>>
>>89254531
>pretty popular in this generation
Yeah that's why I'm conflicted, I don't want to be just another 'middleground anime style' artist. I want to be something truly unique like pic related. There's nothing like Toriyama's early art.
>>
>>89254590
Ok I understand your problem now, toriyama had influences, western comics, action movies and fashion magazines kinda like Araki a drawing style it's build on your interests, say I like Tezuka but also Impressionist painting and japanesse tokusatsu, my style its going to be different from other people's. What are your visual interests, your little kirks, developing a style its more like discovering yourself, it may even look similar to your middle ground anime but with more personality.
>>
>>89254662
My influences are primarily comic/manga artists. I suppose that's rather plain and leads to a homogenized style.

Her left arm and hand (or what's implied of the former, anyway) and the neck up, yeah. The rest is more informed and aesthetically pleasing but lacks identity.

You seem to have trouble drawing things you have't seen countless times before, so I'd suggest refocusing on building blocks like 3D shapes and gestures. Try to single out gaps in understanding and assosciate posture, motion and shapes with the feelings they evoke. Your police officer is posing with confidence, but it's such a generic pose that subtle nyance is non-existant. Once you start working on that, you can start taking cracks at style by observing reality and deciding what elements do or don't warrant attention.

Also, ignore
>>89254531
this fucker. Hejust says things that validate his own work. You can be as realistic or abstract as you like, because as long as you are cognizant enough of the foundations of rendering and put in enough effort, you can make anything work.

I would suggest you to start looking at painters, and chekcing books and clothing. other thing that helped me was start cheking manga and comic historically, you would be surprised how much its there to learn from horror manga, and how rich is 80's anime revolution. Its a travel.
Pic related its hokusai manga, maybe you can be interest in old japanesse art.
>>
>>89254802
I'm not too good with understanding written/spoken advice. Could you perhaps redline me a bit to help me figure out what you mean exactly?
What I can say is that I do want character's faces and hair to be cartoon/anime but things like body structure and clothing to be a little more grounded in reality.

>>89254802

it was just an opinion stop acting like a baby.

Carrion Girls doesn't get posted here anymore. The creator abandoned this cesspit when it became obvious /hyw/ was beyond redemption.

That's pretty hot bro, ever considered drawing porn? I'd fap to it.

>...are you actually retarded or something?

What's up with you kids and this meme insult? I see it every I check out /co/, tumblr, or the comment section of the most recent Markiplier video. It makes you sound like a passive-aggressive Canadian teenager. (lol)

>You could start by making the armrest wider than one of your character's fingers.

There are :literally: armrests that wide.

>What about placing it on the same plane as your character?

You can complain that a chair is simply too small; people do that all the time on airplanes. However, here, you're just objectively incorrect. xD

Finally done with this first page, but I've been struggling all day on tumblr to prevent it to turn it into a blurry unreadable piece of shit. Any advice on where to go?
>>
>>89255407
The idea that Carrion Girl is considered quality artwork is the real tell that /hyw/ is beyond redemption.

bamp
>>
>>89256268
You mean places to host it other than tumblr? Are there many places that will take an image larger than 2000x3000?

What will be the final, published size for this page? Whether solely on the web, or also in print.

Give serious consideration to making the lettering larger, and placed in caption boxes.
>>
>>89255407
That's a shame, but good for them for going on anyway

>>89256541
I disagree, the style may not be for everyone but they were one of the best when it came to color

The denial is real. I'm glad you're around, you belong in this thread :^)
>>
>>89256541
Then post your comic.

>but you don't have to be a chef to know when food is bad!

This is a thread for creators. If you don't have a comic then why are you in "how's YOUR webcomic." You the cancer, Anon.

This is why /ic/ is better. Too many consumers lurk in here from their capeshit and SU threads.
