He's not a very "good" muslim.

He's born and raised in Deerborne Michigan, and while he's felt alienated post 9/11, he never radicalized, if anything, he started acting out in the other direction. Hell, given what he went through, the fact that he STILL hasn't ever radicalized should earn him a goddamn medal.

He's a good character, despite having had a pretty "very special episode" origin, and his supporting cast is good, too.

I like Baz because he always has that temptation to use the ring for his own personal gain but has enough will power to reject that.

I enjoy reading his struggle and that he's kind of afraid. It'd be like if Hal after didn't go Parallax after Emerald Coast.

I like Jessica too. She's afraid in other ways but more courageous than any of them in a lot of instances because she over comes her fear.

Hal just mostly never feels it. I think when Kyle was more new he was like that.

Rings are powered by will power, but that's not how they search out candidates. They pick GLs based on "the ability to overcome great fear", which is similar, but not quite the same thing. Lanterns 1,2, and 3 were a test pilot, a soldier, and a policeman. They do dangerous things, but aren't afraid, hence "overcoming great fear". But soldiers and policemen aren't picked for their creativity. They're picked for their ability to fall in line and follow orders. Kyle's an artist, an exception to the rule, and that's why his constructs are all so creative.
