Why does thor care about the Earth and humanity again?
>>
Because he wants subjects to rule over and when people attack his subjects it pissed him off.
>>
>>89106003
He's an Earth god, his entire purpose and being was manifested in myth by its inhabitants. In real life he's associated with thunder, lightning, storms, oak trees, strength, the protection of mankind, and also hallowing and fertility.
>>
>>89106276
If the power of belief makes the Norse gods real, why don't other planets with intelligent life have their own actually magical gods memed into existence?
>>
>>89107232
As shown in Aaron's Thor: God of Thunder, they do.
>>
His mom was Gaiea the earth,he's got a maternal need to be there
>>
>>89107288
I'm going to be honest, I was kind of bummed when it turned out the gods of other planets and their realms were in ruins because Gorr decided to fuck em up, rather than something more metaphysical like the world stopped believing in them, even if that were kind of cliche.
>>
>>89106276
Also he represents the common man and peasents.
Making him the Superman counter part was actually a pretty good idea, since the share a couple of traits.

His mum's literally the Earth Goddess. There's a special connection between Thor & Earth that other Asgardians lack (to Odin's chagrin).
>>89107232
They do. This has been canon since Jurgens/JRJR & their Dark Gods at the latest.
>>
Because he got stranded on Earth and fell for a human woman
>>
>>89106003
Because Gaia, primordial goddess of the Earth, is his mom.

Because Donald Blake is human, and he is Donald Blake, even after Donald Blake stops existing.

Because of noblesse oblige, for Midgard is weak while Asgard is not, and his heroics matter more on Earth.
>>
>>89107232
They do. Some planets have just moved beyond the state of myth and their gods went away.
>>
>>89106276
>>89107232
What? But this isn't DC. They don't need belief in order to sustain themselves. They have also existed long before men walked the Earth.

The only god that matters is Galactus.

>They don't need belief in order to sustain themselves.
True. The specifics will sometimes change from writer to writer, but as Marvel Gods are made of Cosmic matter and simply shaped by imagination, they tend to have a stronger physical self to fall back on when the prayers stop coming.
>They have also existed long before men walked the Earth.
"Gods don't have history, they have story; and stories can be rewritten". Upon conception Marvel Gods exist retroactively, just like the stories in which they were invented say they did. It's... a bit of a mindfuck honestly.

Approximately the timeline goes:
>Earth's Demiurgic life-force creates the Elder Gods
>Elder Gods fight until there's only 5 left (4 of whom fuck off) and a whole lot of 'godstuff' floating around
>Celestials arrive & make Eternals, who go around saving humans & killing Deviants
>Eternals' exploits are recorded as myths & legends
>'godstuff' reacts to the strong psychic energy generated by so much belief
>[MEME MAGIC]
>Gods

Forgot to add:
>Gods themselves remember their personal histories as whatever the stories said they were (N.B. their personal histories are thus susceptible to change if perception of them so changes, different interpretations have given them multiple pasts muchlike how a material universe has multiple futures)
>physically immortal beings like Eternals are vaguely aware that Gods have always been around, but only get a concrete memory of them after humans started worshipping them en-masse
>when pressed with conflicting evidence a God's memories of events might change e.g. if a feat they are known to have performed has a historical basis that states it was performed by an Eternal

Because hes a nice guy who had a life changing philosophical experience...
Plus it gives him something to hit. Hitting dwarves and giants probably gets old

>Hitting dwarves and giants probably gets old
Why is Thor have such shit taste?
>>
>>89111052
From reading Loki I got the impression they were a forced narrative upon reality, living legends that could even be rewritten. Him trying to cast of the label of a trickster god in order to become good.
>>
>>89111211
Galactus is a pillar of the universe, literally a fundamental part of its make-up, he's not a god in the sense that Thor, or Odin, is but an extremely powerful cosmic force. Then again I suppose that's what a god is.
>>
>>89113003
I've seen this many times, what's the context here? Just Thor feeling down.
>>
>>89114765
He lost a patient in surgery and is feeling down. More so because being an immortal giant killer doesn't help prevent heart attacks/conditions.
>>
>>89106003
same reason as superman

because comic writers can't think of any other good reason
>>
>>89108952
And after so long he's got friends here and that matters, now after he gets the Ultimate Hammer he needs to get Billy back for his sisters sake.
>>
>>89106003
Because most readers are humans from Earth.
>>
Earth is his mom.

>>89113831
You spend untold millennia punching frost giants in the face, and it'll get old too. Imagine a video game where all the enemies are just pallet swaps.

Sometimes you need to fight a few aliens to spice things up a bit.
>>
>>89115056
Some of Thor's best stuff is when he's helping aliens.
>>
>>89115138
In a way he's more of an earthling than humans.
>>
>>89106003
That pic is one of the best I've seen in a while.
>>
>>89106003
His mother is literally the goddess of the Earth. As in, Gaia. It's his nature to care.
>>
>>89106003

He doesn't. He only cares about Team Thor.

In chaos war the Zenn Laa Science Gods were basically phantasms since too much science meant noone believed in the science gods anymore. They still existed but they couldn't really do anything. I suppose it probably has to do with all of the science worshippers thinking gods can't do anything/exist which resulted in a semi-unique logic bomb.

The skrulls explicitly worshipped their own god in Secret invasion and whenever they annexed a planet the skrull pantheon would also battle whatever Pantheon the invaded planet has.

A: The Gaia/mother link to Earth in myth is reinterpreted by Marvel to be a link to the entire reality of Midgard with a focus on Earth the planet because that's where the conceptual origins of these magic-based "gods" were formed upon.
Thor has an allegiance to all the Midgard universe, not just Earth, even though Earth is his second home away from Asgard and he's put down roots there.
B: "Worthy" means that you are just. That means helping those in need when you can.
And C: The myth is that of a mighty protector of the people, it's who the Thor identity is in the classic myths and in the basic superhero concept. The normal rules of selfish petty human motivations don't apply to beings like Thor who are manifest by the old magics.
There are other heroes who are motivated by more complex reasons, but Thor is Thor. Nothing more need be said.
