This is what I've always wanted but I'm not sure if I like it.

I've never been a trunksfag but the lack of red really does make the whole thing look weird.

Maybe they need to make the bottom half of the suit a slightly darker blue? I've seen that in some redesign threads and it looks pretty good.

I've come to terms that the trunks are never coming back. This I think FINALLY strikes the right balance. The yellow on the belt helps to break everything up. Also the cuffs are gone THANKFULLY. This really does look like what an updated Superman always should have looked like. Seriously, the belt that's designed really does wonders.

So we've gone through something like five different costume tweaks since the classic one was eliminated and now here we are, almost back to where we started. And people still want to yell about how stupid the trunks are.

Not mention their job is to make it as good looking and simple enough to animate as possible. In general, less is more. Unfortunately too many comic artists can't seem to figure this out and add tons of unnecessary shit because they probably think it'd look too plain. Probably happens when you stare too much at a single piece of work you work on for too long without clear goals and limitations that cartoon designers probably have.

It works just by virtue of being the iconic Superman costume everyone knows, just with something that works to break up the blue in lieu of the red trunks, which a lot of modern Super-suits have lacked.

There are no extraneous details either. It's Superman with no frills, like it should be.

Unfortunately, that edict ignored the reality that the more complicated the design, the harder it is to draw it quickly on a regular basis. So you wind up with spandex with panel lines as visual shorthand and a laterally moved goalpost.

In actuality the same principles that apply to good character design in animation applies to comics as well. Simple, clean designs aren't just easier to reproduce, they're also often more memorable.
