Thread question: Are you guys okay with your awesome shelves being used as a OP pic for these threads?

Last thread's shelf had its owner complain about it >>88962395 so I want to be sure you guys are okay with it and no I don't claim ownership of anyones shelf, just a way of featuring the /co/mmunity's shelves.

Probably have a problem when I want to buy things just for the sake of buying them.

Wicked and the divine sounded cool but it disappointed me real bad, man. I read the first 2 volumes and couldn't continue. Something about how the characters act, how the story progressed just seemed so stiff or lackluster or fake or something and I ain't talking about the art. Maybe I'm too groggy but that's the best way I can explain it. The writing sucked, basically.

bought these solely for the bookplate.

i'm going to sell the tpb's and get my purchase price back.
>>

I need a new bookshelf. A good one is hard to find. Mine are cheap. The shelves are bowing. I'm running out of room.

the dude got it with issue one. i missed out since my shop didn't get them. also if you bought them from hurtt's website they came with a different bookplate which i also have. and then there is the challenger ex libris book plate which i have. i have everything sixth gun.

>>
>>89107529
Yeah? I'm on issue 10 now, and liked it a lot so far. Gillen seems to try to be hip too hard sometimes, but it works well considering the setting, and I think the characters all have their own little personality.
>>
>>89107940
my opinion is incredibly biased but the truth is your gonna want to read this again and make all your friends read it too.because if they don't love the sixth gun then they aren't your friends

don't know about those since I don't live in America. Try 2nd hand stores, ebay, ebay ebay classifieds, craigslist or if there's an IKEA near you or at least in your state, get a pick-up or a van or something (there's bound to be someone you know who you can borrow it from, or combine it with a road trip) to pick some shelves up from them.
Get a BILLY or FINNBY. FINNBY is best quality for price, they're sturdy as fuck and so cheap they must have been produced by 14 year old Cubans but they look a bit thin.
BILLY is just classic cool and very roomy.
KALLAX may look nice (I have one as well) but if you have oversize books (Absolutes) they won't fit height-wise. Not sure about LIATORP, looks like the shelf-rackings are fixed in height so you might end up with the same problem as with the KALLAX ones.

>fucking 3 party amazon sellers, slow as fuuuck
I know that feel.
Also if you're european, don't order at Books Etc. I did that 3 times now, first time was okay (book 2 and 3 of the big Godland editions, which came in a proper box) but 2nd and 3rd time I ordered HCs from them and they arrived just in envelopes and were battered as fuck. I TOLD them beforehand to please use proper padding, like just fucking newsprint or something stuffed into it but first time they told me they "conform to amazon requirements" or some shit and the second time they said "yeah we'll do that". fuck them!
Speedy Hen is cool, they're actually fast as fuck, even to mainland europe.
There are a few other sellers which I ordered from which are all right, but really, Books etc a shit, same as bookdepository. only bad experiences with them.

I'm honestly asking as the only thing of Bunn's that I've liked was Sinestro.
>>
>>89112751
i like it. it has twists and turns i never saw coming. and i saw the gist of the ending in issue 50 as soon as they revealed the guns would and could change reality if they were brought together. the revelation of the true nature of becky and drake was totally out of left field and totally mind blowing. the mini series fleshing out the pasts of some of the minor characters helped fill in numerous details and generally showed how the world of the sixth gun works.

OP or anyone, I want to get the Tintin books in one set. Which is the best to get? Which version do you have and would you recommend it?

>>89113954
There's an older version of OP's set in blue that's legitimately complete, I don't think it's available anymore though. The versions that are being sold now either don't have Congo or don't have Congo/Soviets/Alph-Art so AFAIK none of them have the entire series.

Get them individually if your wallet can handle it. The art suffers from being shrunk down so much

Turns out op used my shelf pic for the thread.. the ones i have were purchased at wal-mart and hold up well, althoughhhh the only book i have of Omni-weight is Fear Agent and its on the end. But generally theyre a cheap and basic shelf... just look for something around 3-4 feet high, two or three shelves, adjustable pegs for the shelves, etc. theyre not terribly expensive.

Just don't make the mistake i did and if you want more than one get them all at once, i made the mistake of getting my second shelf a year after the first one and the second one was slightly taller, annoys the shit outta me.

it's one of the best stories DC has ever released. and I mean ever. And that's actually something /co/ won't fight about and will agree 100% on.
Problem with the new trades and the Omni is that it doesn't have the weekly notes in it and they are fucking great. all writers remember their weekly sessions they had when they were writing it and how it got completely crazy sometimes and how they went a different way than how editorial wanted it. for fans, DC was everything done right with a weekly comic, for editorial it was a nightmare though, but who cares.

I'd genuinely advise getting the Hellboy Library Editions asap as they're selling on Amazon so sellers are starting to gouge people. I bought volume one for like £50 before Christmas and now the cheapest you could get a new one on their (at least on amazon uk) is £180. Also they're dope.

So /co/, help me out.

I just started collecting physical after ages of Comixology. I only have enough books for maybe 1/3rd of my shelf. Is there any real negative to stacking them horizontally instead of vertically? The only way I can stand them vertically is if I put something on the end, otherwise they fall over, and I really don't have anything decent to stick on the ends that doesn't look weird.

nah he-s right. Book depository is kinda retarded. All their packaging sucks ass, sometimes books take 1 week, other times 3 weeks, its really retarded. And for statistics, where are you from? I want to see more examples of how they ship. I mean, international shipping is hell sometimes, but mostly because of bad packaging. Instocktrades packaging is great, for example, but their shipping price is huge for the foreigners. Like, $40 for the order of $50.

I think that's the customs fee though which you don't have to pay if you ordered from shops inside the EU or via amazon and its marketplace sellers. you may have noticed the price rises for each product you put in your basket. I ordered from them a few months back and expected that I had to pick it up from German customs but it got delivered home directly after all and I noticed afterwards that the extra price for packaging was pretty much exactly the amount of money I would have had to pay at the customs office.

just do like the other anon said. Stick with amazon marketplace. For portugal i use co.uk or the spanish amazon. The shipping is all the same, for me in poortugal is like 5 € but the marketplace prices are always better then bookdepository and the others. I think you can even get better prices then instocktrades.
Just get an amazon account, create a wishlist, and check it everyday to see if the books you want change price. Sometimes in the marketplace, stores like BWB and Arts and Crafts compete each other for the lower price, so you see a book you want slowly going down in price as the stores take a few cents each time to get even with one another. Bare in mind that arts and crafts are kinda shitty store, ive bought many books from them but i always say its the last time. the really are dicks in terms of packaging. they sent me hellboy weird tale hardcover on a fucking paper envelope. not even kidding

They're not ridiculous on eBay yet. I'd hurry if you're interested and you can grab the full set for under 200 still. There's an auction up right now. I only need 3 and 4 in hardcover, which makes things a bit more annoying since the full set goes up more often than individual volumes.

Call me back when you're looking for the first volume of The Question or WITCH volume 8.

The only neat thing is a copy of Dream Logic a couple bucks under IST price. Other than that, it's just some common stuff I'm hoping that will fly under the radar so I can get a deal on, like a cheap copy of the Watchmen Deluxe edition. Somehow I've managed to not read it yet.

Also, seriously considering buying this bitch with part of my tax refund, but 200 is a lot of money.

This reminds me. Why are there no really nice frames for comics? I have a ton of issues I would love framed on my wall, but that's just not going to happen with the cheap plastic ones I find.

For instance, this variant from BPRD 115. It's almost everything I want that's emblematic of early Hellboy. I'd love to have it on my wall, but just not happening.

>>
>>89180292

I don't really see what the big deal is, i got some inexpensive frames at either Micheals, or Wal-mart i don't remember which now but they were about 15$ each, dark wood frame, suitable proportions for a comic with a bit extra room... you just mount them properly and they look decent

A ton better than those shitty plastic clamshell ones you can get at some comic shops
>>
>>89180426

Those shitty ones are what I was talking about. They're tacky looking and really only good for a shop who uses it for product they want to flip.

I've checked Michaels before, I've just never had luck finding comic sized frames I guess.

The dark wood, is it really thick around the comic? That may be one I saw and I didn't like, not sure.

Yeah you clearly got the job done, and if this is good for your wall that's fantastic. But these have a LOT of dead space for a comic. That kind of thing would bother me every time I look at the frame. Oh well.

Really thanks for the look and idea though.
>>
>>89187035

well you can always mat them with something or have a diff color card stock behind it, if youre looking for something exactly comic dimensions though it could be tricky....>>89185129 found something alot better than mine but its got the same sort of space around the book and costs 10x as much
>>
>>89187035
AC Moore always has a custom framing coupon if you wanna give them a shot. But it honestly might be your best option to have a print shop print the art at a slightly higher size if that won't look terrible, and assuming it's the art and not the comic itself you want to display. One more option might be to compromise and put two comics together in a frame. It might be easier to find something that size. my brother has some framed record cases, so they do make frames in weird sizes.

There are options if you think more creatively, is all I'm saying.

>>
>>89191342
volume 6 of the Absolutes, or the comic itself? Because that's what, halfway? I though Sandman was always hailed as a masterpiece, seems off that it would fall apart halfway through.
>>
>>89192147
It's not really trash I'm just being a hyperbolic shit. It's more like it falls into a formula (a very enjoyable formula up to a point) of "basically a short story about another character" with sometimes pretentious poetry quotes used as narration and then once Gaiman writes himself into a corner (not a diss I love when that happens with stories) he just has Morpheus show up to solve everything. Its still good it just becomes less Morpheus' story until the final trade. (also I mean volume 6 of the comic itself not the absolutes of which I think there are only 4)
>>
>>89192147
Definitely still worth owning in a high-end format, famalam

Recent haul of random cheap crap for less than $30. All ex-library books, so if anyone has any advice on how to best remove stickers without ripping the pages, that would be appreciated
>>
Why is Sinestro Corps War such an absolute clusterfuck? I thought about getting the Absolute edition but it doesn't have those Tales issues, looking up Tales collection it has GL issues that are in the Absolute already. And none of them have the Blue Beetle tie in issue. Fucks sake, who thought this was a good idea?
Is it still worth getting or should I just cope with the regular HCs (all 3 of which I could get for €30 from cheap-comics)?
>>
>>89192386

There are four main series Absolutes, one for Death, and I believe one for the various mini series that aren't strictly part of the 10 book cycle. Endless Nights, Dream Hunters, whatever.
>>
>>89193484
I recognize these stickers. Better World Books?
Those should be easily removable. The actual library stickers are mostly under the protection wrapping so you'd have to get that off first. Not sure if you should even bother.
>>
>>89193490

The Blue Beetle issue is incredibly ancillary. It's more an attempt by the Blue Beetle people to save their flagging book than a true tie in. I have it for completeness sake myself, and even I have to say it's pointless.

And what are you talking about that the Tales collection has GL issues that are in the Absolute? As far as I know the Tales of the Sinestro Corps trade was just the four one shots.

And I really don't know why they don't ever include those four one shots as part of the main story. They fill it out nicely. They add backstory without being pointless or anything. I liked them. But regardless, you do get a complete story out of the 12 issue crossover. I liked the art too, so I can see an Absolute being worth it. I say go for it and grab the Tales of the Sinestro Corps trade to fill in details.

Could you have been looking at other Tales of the Green Lantern Corps trades?
>>
>>89193484

Steam. Pull up some easily disposable TV, start huffing breath onto the stickers edge, and rip very little by very little..
>>
>>89193641
>And what are you talking about that the Tales collection has GL issues that are in the Absolute? As far as I know the Tales of the Sinestro Corps trade was just the four one shots.
you're half right, the Tales HC has GL 18-20 in it, which I thought was already collected in the Absolute, but which isn't. so I'm thinking about that combination after all.
>>
>>89193848

Okay I've figured this out. Those three issues had back ups that were "Tales of the Sinestro Corps." Really old style back ups like GL had in the 80's. They're a throwback to that. I highly doubt it's the full Star Sapphire arc. I bet it's those back ups only. I bet the description is "material from GL 18." Something like that. They're basically origin stories for a few Sinestro Corps members.

I had that same befuddlement when I saw the Infinity Gauntlet Omnibus has "Material from Doctor Strange ### whatever" Basically the reverse there. The main Gauntlet tie in story, but not the Strange lore back up stories.

Also the Absolute doesn't collect those issues of Green Lantern. It starts right after that arc. That arc was the final build up.
>>
>>89193484

Steam... but a hair dryer on a low heat would work ok too, youre just looking to warm up the glue, if theres any residue use some rubbing alcohol gently with a paper towel to remove it.
>>
>>89194230
>>89193484

I'm not sure if this is the exact brand I've used, but I've had more luck getting rid of glue with these sorts of adhesive removal pads than with just rubbing alcohol. Just be careful not to soak the area.

If I wanted to read the original TMNT series, should I just buy all the ultimate collections from IDW? Or should I only get the first two which I think are the ones that were done solely by Eastman and Laird?

I'm also tempted. I want that Schrauwen story. It is really expensive though. And not in English. I know it has the translation provided but that pulls me out of the experience.
>>
>>89208120
i think most of it is wordless so probably not too big of a deal, french is a very easy language to learn too
>>
>>89208272
Some of the stories look wordless from the previews, but it's not the theme or anything. A lot of them look very dialogue heavy, Schrauwen's in particular.
>>
>>89195202
im so pumped for those eventual hardcovers. Think it'll be a 1,2 set or 3?

I got you
>Going Home
>Form and Void
>Latter Days
>The Last Day
The main "phonebooks" remaining.

>Cerebus Number Zero
All the "in between" issues that aren't in the phonebooks. 51, 112/113,137 and 138. This hasn't been reprinted and is definitely last in line IF they will even get around to it.

>(Marvel) Epic Illustrated #26, #28, #30, #32
If you're going full completionist, you'll need the full color segments from Epic Illustrated.
>>
>>89211351
>This hasn't been reprinted and is definitely last in line IF they will even get around to it.
God dammit, you really had me nervous there, but it's apparently still going real cheap on eBay. different anon just for the record, but I've been meaning to get into Cerebus for a while.
>>
>>89195796
not that anon, but one of my favorite comics ever. Shit, I might just storytime it just for you.
>>
>>89211394
You should definitely read those issues in-sequence with everything else.112/113 is SUCH an integral issue to the pacing of the plot and Cerebus as a character that you shouldn't skip it. 51, 137 and 138 are less important, but you still shouldn't skip them.
>>
>>89205160
So you're the prick that nabbed those phonebooks from El Club Del Comic! Fuck you!
Kudos on the Alcatena tho, Transmundo is great even if the lettering is a war crime. And is that Copra at the bottom of the pile?
>>
I know we're discussing Cerebus and Eisner here....

But did the Deadpool Beginnings Omnibus not come out this week?

yeah that's not a famous Cap storyline or anything

To be fair, Marvel has developed this retarded habit of naming events after older events and storylines, going back to Bendis' first Secret War back in 03 or 04. It's retarded and I don't know why they do it other than they suck
