No? The book is already slated to be cancelled anon. It, like almost every X-men book, is ending with their IvX tie-ins with new inhumans and x-men books launching out of ResurrXion which is happening before Secret Empire even starts.

They've already announced the three new Inhumans books. They're Royals, Secret Warriors, and Black Bolt. I wouldn't really call any of them a relaunch of Uncanny Inhumans.

The Flash: Fastest Man Alive / Scarlet Speedster any tag name is enough.

He's carried Flash book on his own for 20 years. Wally has his own unique gimmick enough to hold a book for decades.

All it needs is a writer who wants to do it. Oh and of course, DC genuinely supporting it.

People forget that the Superman titles used to be big around the 40's to maybe part of the 70's. Batman's titles did decent but slid somewhere around maybe the late 50's early 60's till the TV show boosted it up briefly. There was interest when the likes of Denny O'Neil, Neal Adams, Steve Englehart, Marshal Rogers did their takes (and Adams ended up causing a wave of art imitatiors) but Batman didn't really get high on the charts until probably late in the 80's. New Teen Titans which starred Robin outsold every Batman title in the early 80's.

Because floobies are a blight. The industry revolves around them yet their painfully outdated and cannot sustain the industry in its current form. Floppies are creeping up to the prices of paper back books. Yet have a fraction of the content and ads to go with them.

The 230K chart from the 60's is newsstand and subscriptions only.

The 80's chart is the direct market only (if the X-Men comics of the time had a statement of ownership, it'll give info on average newsstand sales). Newsstands were still a thing in the 80's so it sure as hell was more than 150K overall.

In all honesty for being a completely new minority character that got no shilling/appearances in other books I'd say he's actually doing pretty well.

The problem is that it still doesn't seem to have stabilized since it lost 5k from issue #5 to #6. If it can stabilize at above 15k it'd say DC would be relatively happy.

7.26% greater revenue is almost 20%? I know math is hard for Marvelfags but at least try.

DC probably ended up making more money anyway because Marvel had to pay for the at least 18% of their books that they gave away.

>Publishers Weekly has an overview of bookstore sales in 2016, via Bookscan, and print sales edged up 3.3%, the third year of growth.

>The gains came from non-fiction, up 6.9% from 2015, with growth in the arts and crafts category (yes that’s adult coloring books), self help and religion.

>In adult fiction, sales were down 1%. However, Graphic Novels were up 12%, the only category to show a rise.

>This is down from 2015’s rise of 22% for graphic novels, however. Last year PW had a breakdown by category, which would enable more triumphalism from our team.

>Children’s books were basically flat; the only three titles to sell more than a million units were J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Parts 1 and 2, Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard’s Killing the Rising Sun and Double Down, the new Wimpy Kid book from Jeff Kinney.

>In the digital world, flat is the new up for print. Certainly the Internet may have killed magazines, but it didn’t kill books. And comics seem to be thriving.

>Diamond should have its year-end figures out this week, but I’ll take a wild guess and say that The Killing Joke will be in the top 10 for GNs. Diamond’s sales through November show GNs up 1.85%, so I’d expect fairly flat numbers unless no one gave a book as a gift. We’ll have the Bookscan bestselling titles when Brian Hibbs writes up his yearly report – which you will be able to read right here on The Beat! Overall, despite the worrying and fretting and dumpster fires, graphic novel and comics sales are holding steady or rising. That doesn’t mean everything is awesome no no improvement can be made, but it does indicate a strong base.

We did it /co/

Star Wars, #1s, and events. I believe Spider-man is their only actual book that's anywhere in the top 35.

Which is hilarious because people are dropping Marvel left and right because they're nothing but events and #1s, but that's all that sells. I have to wonder what Marvel would look like if they stopped doing incentive variants like DC did.

Yes, exactly. That's the problem that should be fixed. Big books that should be popular should stop being shit and thus make more money. There's no excuse for not putting top talent on Spider-Man, and there's no reason Marvel should be complacent with these numbers.

Spider-Man is just one, example, by the way, there are lots of other books that would be doing way better if the publishers actually held writers accountable for their books' sales.
>>
>>89114219

How could Marvel let their biggest hero fall so low that he sells half of what DC's biggest hero? And that goes for other titles as well. Renew your vows has sunk already while TDKIII and All Star still sell incredibly well.

Isn't Spider-Man supposed to be the most popular Superhero in the world or is that just because he sells a lot of bedsheets?

Well sales have actually increased from #2 and are staying level. If it gets more attention it could keep going up
>>
>>89108283
Well Nova #2 got more hyped and a couple of people going "WTF Richard Rider is back? Why didn't anyone tell me?" And the comic panels got shared all over comic communities.

So if it doesn't have better sales by #2 an onwards then yeah it's fucked.
>>
>>89115679
>or is that just because he sells a lot of bedsheets?

It's this. That chart that gets trotted out was from the year Amazing Spider-man came out. He's big in countries like Mexico, but the thing about Spider-man is that people like the costume and concept, but not really enough to read it. When all people are interested in is "poor high school student gets powers," your options for stories are severely limited.

Now obviously there are actual fans of Spider-man and his cast out there, but they are much rarer than Batman fans. For instance, characters like Robin, Joker, Poison Ivy, Harley, or even Jim Gordon are all independently popular icons, but outside of Peter who has that kind of draw in the Spider-man universe? Venom definitely was back in the 90's, but he hasn't been a big deal in years. Norman Osborne is a big deal to Marvel, but outside the comics he has no cultural footprint- and was even dead for like 20 years. Doc Ock is a good character but didn't get as big after the movie as you would have hoped.

Maybe it's that Spider-man's TV show in the 70's didn't actually feature anything from the comics, unlike Batman '66 which got people to love Batman's villains. Then in the 90's the Spider-man cartoon was eclipsed by BTAS, so nobody really left a big footprint.

Either way, Spider-man is important as a marketing icon, but not so much as a character anymore.
>>
> Comic readers know what they like and they like what they know.

> Marvel more interested in pandering than telling good stories. Heavy-handed shit that annoys and is cringe worthy.

> This backfires as it entrenches and reinforces the conservatism of readers.

> Comics that explore new avenues in terms of stories or characters struggle; the blowback from Marvel's pandering makes it harder for new ideas or concepts to get a footing.

Marvel will never admit it, at least not in the foreseeable future, but ASM still hasn't recovered from One More Day. Before OMD, the book sold 90-150k issues reliably. Within a few months of the BONG it had dropped to around 70, and never managed to get back up except for milestone issues.

https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/01/13/indepth-look-overships-distorted-marvel-comics-numbers-december-2016/

>A Indepth Look At How Overships Distorted Marvel Comics’ Numbers For December 2016

>Bleeding Cool has been covering the increase in overships from Marvel to comic stores in depth of late. Ostensibly, they encourage retailers to find the actual instore demand for Marvel titles, if Marvel think that the books may have been underordered. The idea goes that if more customers can buy them, then maybe they will want to buy future issues as well. It also allows retailers to run promotions, encourage sampling of comics, or even run giveaways. And because adding a few extra thousand onto a printrun is a relatively inexpensive action, everyone should win.

>It also has the side benefit of Diamond Comic Distributors counting overshipped comics as unit sales (though not dollar sales. as they are free).

>Here are examples of one store’s experience from the top fifty comics chart that we ran earlier.

>#7 Star Wars #26 – 50% overship
>#9 Hulk #1 – 50% overship
>#13 Invincible Iron Man #2 – Overship to match to order for #1
>#16 Hawkeye #1 – 100% overship
>#19 Gamora #1 – 100% overship
>#21 Avengers #2 – Overship to match to order of #1
>#23 Guardians of the Galaxy #15 – 100% overship
>#29 Rocket Raccoon #1 – 100% overship
>#30 Nova #1 – 100% overship
>#34 Mighty Captain Marvel #0 – 100% overship
>#35 Star Lord #1 – 100% overship
>#43 Champions #3 – Overship to match order to #2
>>
>>89122753
>And looking at the Top 100 table below you can see the difference this makes. We have bolded the Marvel titles that show the greatest disparity between sales position and expected dollar position.

>What this means is that even though Marvel’s comics generally cost more than DC’s comics – around a third more – and they have greater reported unit sales across the board, the gap between Marvel’s dollar share and DC’s dollar share is lesser. Without the free overships, with the higher prices, Marvel traditionally have enjoyed a greater dollar share difference.

>Indeed, if you were to remove overships entirely, it looks like DC Comics would have a higher unit sales marketshare than Marvel. And far fewer titles in the top fifty.

>But that might not take into account another promotion Marvel runs with many launch titles, giving greater discounts if retailers increase their orders, compared to previous orders.
>>
>>89122664
I always find it funny how his fans bitch about him not being pushed despite the fact that his book is double shipped and was advertised everywhere.
>>
>>89122775
>We have the top hundred below – and have bolded the titles with the greatest disparity comparing their unit sales and dollar sales, taking into account the retail price of the comic. Some like IVX #1 benefitted from those discounts. But most are down to free overships. And the greatest disparate figures when both happen at once.

>The natural state of things would see, say, Teen Titans #3 at $2.99 be in 47th place for sales and 66th place for dollars raised, while just below it in 48th place for sales is Spider-Man/Deadpool #12 at $3.99 at 31st place for dollars. That makes sense, yes?

>But what can only be explained by free overships is the likes of Flash #13 at $2.99. 34th place on the unit sales chart and 26th place on the dollar amount. Makes sense. But Guardians Of The Galaxy #15 at $3.99 above Flash at 23rd on the unit sales chart and 64th on the dollar sales despite costing 1/3 more. Take out the overships and factor for the $3.99 price and the unit sales would see it much further down the chart. It might not even be in the Top 100.
>>
>>89122790
>While Hawkeye #1 got both. First, stores who exceeded 125% of their numbers for All-New Wolverine #12 got a 15% discount on their order, reducing the dollar ranking. And then Marvel sent double the ordered numbers, upping the unit sales ranking.

>Which is how it made the top twenty in unit sales at 16th place, but despite having a $3.99 price only scored 48th place in the dollar chart.

>While at 17th place on the unit chart was Detective Comics #946 at only $2.99, and at 22nd place on the dollar chart.

>Bleeding Cool continues to call for the Diamond unit share charts not to count overships, just as it doesn’t count comics priced below a dollar, how it reduces the reported amount for comics made returnable and how it refused to count the Cowboys & Aliens graphic novel sales that Platinum Studios paid stores to order back in the day. Marvel’s overships do have valid marketing reasons, and should be encouraged, but not when it comes to distorting the charts of what comic stores actually order. It gives the impression that Marvel is doing this just to game the charts and look better for Marvel Comics in the civil war between Marvel Films and the rest of Marvelat Disney, and the e-mails between different departments and Disney highlighting poor performance of the other departments. And yes, that does happen.

>Diamond should take itself out of that fight.

Both DC and Marvel are having problems selling books with anything that isn't standard, classic fare. Look at the sales for Flintstones, which all over the place is considered one of the better new books.

Until we get figures taking into account digital sales only, it's hard to see why any published really would have any financial incentive (disregarding cross-promotion for films, toys, etc.) to publish comic books.

>>89107835
Especially if you compare figures - albeit almost 50 years old, that should the 53rd selling book from 1969 would have landed at #3 today. But part of this is (a) people aren't reading as much, which has been the case for several decades, notwithstanding Harry Potter, yadda yadda, and people are more used to and comfortable consuming digital media.
>>
>>89113197
>>89113215

It's been releasing over two years, it started in 2015 and for a weekly digital did well enough, versus all the digitals that are now gone (Arrow, Flash, etc.)

DC used to have a digital first every day of the week. None of them went to 78 issues (plus an annual) which is what Bombshell managed.

I'd say they're at least going to keep it up until Action and Tec get to #1000. Plus if they go back to monthly they're probably going to up their price to $3.99 again which will stop people buying more overall.

The numbers seem to be stabilizing now. So as long as that actually happens and things don't have large drops they could keep up the twice monthly for quite awhile. Plus don't forget despite what the charts say stores are actually ordering significantly more DC books per month than Marvel ones.

Double shipping is working really well for them.

Her New 52 book wasn't as accurate representation of her selling power. It was a book that DC pushed HARD and it caught on, but if you looked at her digital sales they were not very good which is odd given how well her print sales were. So her print sales were inflated a bit as stores were probably ordering more than they needed trying to get those special Harley variants and thinking that Harley is a character whose merch and books have a long shelf life so they don't mind taking on more copies than their current customers were buying.

What her book is selling at now is closer to what is a normal sales range for her, even though DC is still pushing her a ton. The market has just finally adjusted after all the flair at the start.

A company like marvel can't pander to both audiences at once

so they have to pick between left leaning comics or right leaning comics and they've decided (probably correctly considering their audience) that left leaning comics will sell better overall.

Remember, if Marvel publishes even one book that leans to the right, people who read other Marvel books will see this and stop buying their own left leaning books, likewise the other direction, if any book leans left then the right books will die.

Basically what I'm trying to say here is that the entire line has to lean in the same direction to get sales.
>>
>>89150379

The 1 should do decent numbers
>>
>>89150724

What make a book "Right leaning" these days? I read somewhere that Superman is a conservative book because it has a happily married white man with a kid. I'm tired of all this shit
>>
>>89150779
guy I was talking to mentioned a graphic novel about the clintons, so that's clearly what he meant by right leaning.

In general I'd say that "right leaning" means agrees with republican politics to an extent, books about how women are just as good or better than men or about black people taking over for white people are clearly left leaning, so the inverse of this would be right leaning I suppose.

Superman is a good pick for a conservative book, not because Superman is white but because the central setting is classic Superman. He's married to Lois, he lives and is shown working his farm, he has a positive moral outlook and the entire book is literally "the old superman you loved years ago is back."

Conservative means "wants to retain things as they are/were" so if we define right leaning as conservative then any book which goes out of its way to return to its roots could probably be considered as such.

At the end of the day, we're using right vs left as a descriptor for a conflict that is less to do with actual politics (i.e. not comics about capitalism or w.e the fuck) and more to do with identity and traditional narrative.

shit like that makes it obvious you're a shitposter that's trying to desperately stir shit up.

I'm not going to point out how even in the post you replied to it's mentioned how their minis are at all time low in the last 5 years, how their imprints are bringing in horrible numbers and they haven't even stabilized yet. The double shipping is hurting their smaller titles, going monthly and 3.99 with a lot of their titles will end up hurting those titles a lot. And them trying to copy Marvel's retarded "always in event mode" way of publishing IMPORTANT comics only serves to drown out the smaller titles. Forever Evil is how you should do an event, but DC wants to overperform on events and it doesn't care if it has to cancel minis halfwaythrough.

The story of how this came to be (pre rebirth) was written by the Superman writer. And the status quo for Superman is still convoluted. The actual comic is nothing but mediocre trash that gets by because it gives dumbasses "muhh feels" moments.
