I have a thoery that Rick is going to end up dying in an adventure shoving Morty into a time vortex. Morty ends up back in time and finds Rick as a normal scientist.

Morty tries to get Rick to help him get back, Rick at the time rejects Morty theory. Morty pulls out whatever invention he has in his pocket an convinces Rick about other universes. From they they make a portal gun, and that's what Sparks Rick to leave Beth and his wife.
