It's lacking context. The comic is narrated by Hazel, who not only spend her formative years in an all-female prison, but whose positive meaningful interaction with men were restricted to her father and grandafter (and some neutral ones, like a book author).

Because of how many people in her life have been women who have suffered greatly because of war (and being one herself), it makes sense that she'd see things that way.

That being said, the comic doesn't present Hazel as a 100% correct narrator. People she dislikes get a less that kind narration, despite the audience being able to see that they had valid reasons to do what they do (or at least, that they aren't complete monters). For example, a bounty hunter gets described as a complete monster (but we see him rescue a child from sexual slavery and basically raise her), one of her pursuer's actions get described as brutal despite the fact that her parents are just as bad (or wose), and so on.

Without wanting to seem like a /pol/ try hard this is a series that meant to be about family and war and presents a huge range of species and a lot of different clashing planetary cultures.
