No I'm not asking for fanfic ideas here.

What I'm saying is that I notice trend in more recent Simpsons episodes (and some older ones as well). Namely that the writers have this thing with making Bart and Lisa like this kind of bickering married couple or otherwise jokingly suggest that they're an item. Naturally this is done purely for comedy's sake, but it's being done to an almost disturbing level.

For example, I can think of at least two episodes where B&L's entire plot was an excuse to make as many bickering married couple jokes as possible. The first was in that episode where they drive around in a peddling car with Maggie in the backseat and the second one was in the episode where they took care of an ant (the latter episode already containing the infamous "Bart licking Lisa's face" scene.

Also there was that episode where Lisa fakes being a college student and when the college girls ask her if she has any cute guys as roommates, she says "Well, Bart is..." and then goes "No."

Surely there have to be people other than me who've noticed this disturbing trope in the show.

Wait what!?

It's just Lisa's way to deal with the departure of Juliet.
>>
I don't really take these kinds of jokes as seriously as others do. The jokes are supposed to be funny-in-a-weird-way. Although, given the joke writing on the show as late, the funny part is up in the air. But to go as far as to say it's "disturbing" is going too far.

It's not as if they're making jokes about Bart and Lisa fucking.

I consider it more of a lazy device than anything, much like the relationship between Wiggum and Homer in Chief of Hearts. They didn't make it funny and instead opted for pretty much generic back and forths supposedly made humorous by the fact the characters are not an actual couple. I rarely get disturbed by these, just annoyed.
>>
>>89083065
They did the same sort of thing with Flanders and Homer for a while. Those were pretty funny though. Now that I think of it, they've sort of dropped that element of Lenny and Carl, haven't they?

As for the Bart and Lisa thing, it's not at all a regular occurrence, so I hardly think about it at all. Anyway, it's only perverted if you read into it too much.

There's nothing disturbing about love OP.
>>
Glad someone is bringing this up. It's disgusting as fuck. It's never been obvious, but you know when it's implied. It's so disturbing and incest-y. I could deal with the bit in Kill the Alligator and Run where Homer talks about B&L getting married, and I'm glad the joke in Make Room For Lisa ("Mom and Dad must never know!") was cut from the finished script. But since the HD switch, this is getting ridiculous. It's like the writers know about all the R34 and smutfics and have decided to egg it on. These gags are disturbing and creepy as fuck. Their relationship in Dangerous Curves was not funny at all. It was annoying, but that's the least concern as it was also sick. Worse than that was the subplot in American History X-Cellent. Them acting like a married couple and raising their ants (kids) was more disturbing than Homer getting raped by a panda and all other Homer torture gags combined, plus all other B&L incest jokes (excluding the one in KTAAR). As soon as they make a more obvious incest joke about Bart/Lisa liking each other, that episode will automatically become my least favorite episode of all time.
>>
>>89083301
I forgot about the KTAAR joke, but I assumed that was just Homer being an idiot.

>>
I thought Bart licking Lisa was pretty funny. You have to admit, Bart and Lisa raising an ant is a pretty unique plot.
>>
>>89083381
just watch some older episodes, bart and lisa were written so well that you could tell they were siblings even if the show never said so just because how they acted
nowdays how many people even have siblings anymore? remember the show is based on mat groenings family, back in the day 3 kids was the norm
this is also why sitcoms died and got replaced by reality tv and then that got replaced by youtube, nobody can relate
>>
>>89083301
People, people. It's just an old sitcom cliche joke about characters being written like an old married couple. There's no lewd stuff implied here except in your heads.
>>
>>89083301
>I'm glad the joke in Make Room For Lisa ("Mom and Dad must never know!") was cut from the finished script
Huh? In what context was that line intended to be said?

I agree that the writers probably aren't intentionally inserting incest jokes into episodes, however it seems to be happening more and more often now.

It wasn't a deleted scene to my knowledge, it was just a gag the writers passed around the room. I'm not sure if they ever actually storyboarded/animated it. I can't imagine Fox would have been ok with it.
>>
>>89083391
Because it doesn't fit into The Simpsons.

Remember that, on some level, The Simpsons *are* supposed to be an average dysfunctional American family. Dumb dad, nagging mum, one kid's a brat, another's a smart alec. That's your tone.

Homer talking about incest breaks the illusion of these moving lines being an actual family because it doesn't fit the tone of the show at all. It'd be like making a Simpsons episode about racism.
>>
>>89083581
All the same, thank God I have never heard of that scene's existence before now.
>>
>>89083301
If it's a bad Bart/Lisa incest joke, then yes. A few years back, there was a period in which I became very sensitive to stuff like that and I when I was watching the episodes, I was getting paranoid that some sort of joke like that would come up. I'm serious.

I don't mind the ones involving Cletus (I actually find them funny) as he is a smaller character and it fits his hillbilly characterization. However, Bart and Lisa seem too innocent and (comparatively) normal to go through something like that. That's why it bothers me. Plus, they are only 10 and 8 and I think it would be very out of character for both of them. Bart because he would get grossed out and Lisa because it would go against her morals.
>>
the thing about bart and lisa being written as a couple, people only see this because they want to, wasn't there something like that in lisa the drama queen about lisa and juliet's friendship having a lesbian tone

I think you're reading too much into it anon. The not couple acts like a couple joke has been around forever. The only reason they use Bart and Lisa is because they're the only prominent kids. They've made incest related jokes before. The scene where Bart essentially comes home from work at the plant and Marge nags him and he reacts like a stereotypical husband promising to take her out to dinner. It's a common gag.
>>
If you haven't had an on-and-off relationship with a friend or a sibling that acted like a shrewd marriage, you're not a human. People argue, people make up. This isn't anything new. The people who make it to be anymore than what it is are the ones who need to be addressed.

Short version: It's fiction, nigga.

Lisa The Drama Queen was based on the 1994 movie Heavenly Creatures, directed by Peter Jackson and starring Melanie Lynskey and Kate Winslet. The protagonists murder someone's mother or something and initially bond over their ailments. As time goes on, they start becoming closer and acting out their fantasies.

it's not uncommon at all. siblings kiss the other on the cheek from time to time as a means of embarrassing or just expressing their emotion. notice how Bart says "Knock it off!" he doesn't want Lisa to be on him, but she is, she's showing her affection. it's not meant to be incest, it's meant to be a younger sister showing her love of an older brother and probably embarrassing him in the process. so yes, i do think you're looking too far into this.

thanks for being easily triggered and not actually having an argument against my point

here do cousins trigger you too?
>>
>>89089862
Okay, anon let me enlighten you. The reason why is triggers so much people because of the way it is presented as "normal", "cute" and "disirable" which is not. Because incest has real worl corilations to real life and in real life it is usually abusive, and danging to those involved and presenting it as something as A-okay is a problem cause it gives the impression to the general public that is should be encouraged. So people who are in incestous relationships should not seek help and those who cry put for help would ultimately be silenced cause there is "normal incestous relationships" and they would probably be seen in society normalized by incest as a bigot who is talking down to that kind of relationship. Which the bottomline is there is no such thing of a normal stable incestous relationship cause they are all abusive.
Ideas don't exist in a vaccum it could ultimately alter how someone views certain things if shown in a positive light.
>>

>>
>>89090108
>its impossible for a non abusive incest relationship to exist
ya ok sure, doesn't sound like your talking out of your ass at all

also is your argument that since abusive relationships exist we shouldn't allow any relationships because that kinda sounds like what you argued

Now I assume what your saying isn't backed up by any form of statistical or other evidence because I would love to see it, since personally I disagree with incest in the case of parent to child because I think that the parent has inherent control over the child that makes me question the child's ability to consent no matter how old they are, however siblings or cousins are a very different matter, especially if they are close in age, I would assume most cases of abuse would come from incestuous relationships that I would disagree with anyway but I assume you don't have actual data anyway so this point is moot
