Well, I mean, uhh, subtext?

A sitcom is a sitcom but a lot of what made Daria who she was (detached, sardonic, afraid to try new things) is the kind of behavior that a person with high anxiety would exhibit. And she has panic attacks throughout the series. It's not necessarily profound, but it does point to her being a more interesting character than a 40 year old man writing about how much he hates kids these days.
