What went wrong?

Too much lore and actually getting depressing when the show originally was a way to make us less depressed in post great recession times.

Reddit, Twitter and Tumblr.

Its fine if you don't take the thing so seriously. The writers obviously don't.
It lost focus of what it wanted to be.
It's still pretty good, but extremely confused

It didn't match up with people's expectations, so they got upset.
The show itself is still pretty good, just different.
Entitled millenials who think every show should be like Marvel's cinematic universe bullshit with lore and plot around every corner in a fucking cartoon.
The first 2 seasons were fucking great, but then you people latched onto the post-apocalyptic hints that was never more than just a subtle background thing. You reap what you sow faggots.

Lore and plot have never been at the forefront of Adventure Time. In fact most people complain about the status quo never changing.

this
the show has no clear direction, it sometimes feels like the writers are basically at war with each other, coming up with ideas and then having them either abandoned, ruined or altered by other writers
It makes it feel like characters aren't developing since writers will just reset characters to act how they are called to act in their story rather than thinking about what others were trying to do and had done with the characters

They tried to do the Deepest Lore thing where little background details hint at deep and complex secrets hidden in the world, but didn't plan out the hidden secrets very well, so the things that could have been exciting revelations ended up as a jumbled mess that they were clearly making up as they went along.

Ward left. Then they decided to take the lore that he had kept the background, whilst keeping the fun in the foreground, and switch it around to make the lore centerstage, whilst the fun tended to get lost in the shuffle. I still think there's some good things going on in it, but there has been a noteable drop in actual enjoyment of the episodes. At least it's not at TTG/nuPPG's level where it's replaced all of the entertainment with insulting-to-our-intelligence levels of comedy.
>>89056888The moment the show started going downhill was when Rebecca Sugar left to make SU. Her style worked way better with the AT team then with the SU team.

2 episodes in season 5. Aside from that, nothing. it's a good show.
>>89058945
which two?

>Ward left.
No, he didn't. He is still part of the team, he is just not the director. It was too much work for him.

Fire and Frost and Red Throne.

What did go wrong? I still like Adventure Time.

Nobody, except the trolls, is saying that it's completely fucking awful and has gone the way of Teen Titans Go! and New Powerpuff Girls. But it's obvious to everyone that it's not as enjoyable as it used to be. This implies that something has gone awry.

But season 7 was objectively the best one yet.
The slang is pretty obnoxious.
