The Daughter had her spirit transfused into Ahsoka. Ahsoka is the new Daughter, an immortal Aspect of the Force (killable only by the special dagger on Mortis).

The owls have only appeared at key points in Ahsoka's life. Their reappearance means she will star in Episode VIII portrayed by Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka returns looking exactly as she did when we last saw her in Rebels. She only ages on the mortal plane, when she returns to the Force - as she after Rebels so she could visit Mortis and warn her younger self about her Master's darkness as seen in TCWs - she does not age.

This is the real reason Dave needed someone to step up and take over a larger role in Rebels. He's personally overseeing every facet of Ahsoka's big screen debut.

Interestingly Dave talks more and more as if they were actual real beings. When interviewed for season 3 he mentions them along with the Force Priestesses as non-Jedi/Sith aspects of the Force when he mentions the concept behind Bendu.

Dave also talks about Bendu's name derived from the original name of the Jedi. Bendu is ancient and knew the Jedi of old, which is why he is amused by Kanan.

While Lucas never read every story personally he had files made up of new creations and could go through them looking for names or concepts, sometimes to check and see if any idea he had existed in a similar form and, occasionally, to elevate ideas or characters or vehicles he liked to the movies.

Heck, in the Creating Mandalore featurette Dave talks about going through the EU information on Mandalorians with him.

It spawned from the armor, not the character, amusingly enough. No one really cared that much about Boba Fett as a character, it was the fact he wore 'Mandalorian armor' that the EU grabbed and built lore around. An entire race and culture derived from that armor throughout the EU years, and when it got shot down a lot of people that had grown up along with this nifty tribe of warriors who used special armor and tricked out weapons to fight against Jedi without needing the Force got really butthurt. Add to that the admission that neither Boba nor Jango Fett were ever actual Mandalorians themselves and Mandofags sprouted a martyr complex rivalled only by the almost-complete eradication of the Sith culture and history.

Rewatching the Utapau Arc I'm reminded again why they wanted to share it with us. Definitely the kind of episodes when they were at their best. Dooku's lightsabers never change color when Anakin uses them in ROTS.
