Do independent animated shorts really get the chance to be adopted into a series? Or only pilot episodes that aired on TV get to become a real show?

Also we all know what crowd-funding would bring us.

The problem I would imagine is that just because someone can come up with a neat concept and animated it doesn't mean they can manage a cartoon crew well. The creator would be managing the people who are actually doing the drawing.

Why? What good and value do you see in this short? I can't see anything but the flimsiest of premises for the show, and even that won't last more than six episodes. It's also not like the characters really provide anything other than Edge.

In fact no. As I learned from a thread about cartoon creator's wages the other day the network buys the series from the creator then usually hires them as head writer or something. If it's someone with 20 years in the industry then yeah, fuck, put them in charge of everything.

Like Zim. Jhonen was executive producer but he didn't handle any of the technical aspects of the show.
