>>

>>

>>
>>88989201
in Britain college is where you study after high school from ages 16-18
university is where you study to get a degree.
>>
>>88989223
So Bongs call Jr. High high school and high school is called college? Do they have to pay for their "college" too?
>>
>>88988744
Maybe you should stop arguing with people in a language you clearly don't understand.
>>
>>88989223
Huh. Interesting.

Here in America, compulsory education stops at High School. As far as I can tell, College and University is the same thing. That's where you go for a degree. They both mean the same thing here.
>>
>>88989255
>Do they have to pay for their "college" too?
Not in Scotland I think
>>
>>88989201
in the united states a "college" is typically somewhere that only offers undergrad, while a "university" also offers grad programs like masters, doctorates, jds, etc.
>>
>>88989320
I think you're confusing community college with actual college.
>>
>>88989190

He's >implying that Marvel comics aren't real superheroes because they got bought out by Disney... which is a weird point to be satirizing, I don't think I've heard anything negative about Marvel Disney other than people just concerned that disney is buying up too many businesses.
>>
>>88989201
Well, technically College can refer to a division within a University, like the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan. Also this >>88989223
Most people just use the two terms interchangeably in everyday conversation though.
>>
>>88989320
Really? I went to a university, and it was still referred to as college. I truly never knew there was a difference between those terms.
>>
>>88989370
>I don't think I've heard anything negative about Marvel Disney
Lurk more. Much more.
>>
>>88989426

No no, I mean I've heard contrarians bitch about Marvel's movies and comics and stuff but I don't think I've heard anyone suggest that the merger itself was bad.
>>
>>88989379
there's a reason a put in "typically" because it's literally just a naming convention and it's not always followed

>>88989358
community colleges typically offer an associates degree with perhaps a smattering of bachelors degrees available.

Hair, including leg hair, is only "prickly" when it's cut, then the cut hair grows out. If someone never shaves (or goes long enough after shaving that all their cut hairs cycle out) it won't feel that way anymore.

"Defined by the New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education, a college is a “postsecondary educational institution that provides instruction beyond the 12th grade level in programs that satisfy the requirements for a degree at the associate, baccalaureate or graduate level.” It offers a selection of undergraduate degree programs, though it may or may not provide any graduate studies at all."

"In the state of New Jersey, a university is awarded that title because it offers full undergraduate and graduate programs. However, before a college can apply for university status, there are a minimum of four requirements that must be met for at least five years: Programs, Organization, Resources, Accreditation"

It goes, school up to 16. General eductaction much like you'd expect. Free and compulsory

College is sort of an intermediate step between school and university. Courses are a little more specialized students taking between 4 and 8 subjects with the main aim to be getting into university. Or taking vocational training. Colleges can be a stand alone institution or be within a high school. Either way it's free and compulsory.

University is still free for those who qualify in Scotland. In England and Wales fees are capped at around £9000-12000 a year. Student loans are cheap and don't have to be repaid until your income hits a certain threshold

Nah, Spain has occasionally made vague noises like "it would be very difficult" (because they don't want the question posed) but they've never said they'd actually block it.

The official spanish position is that Catalonia can't leave without all of spain voting on it, because the Spanish constitution says so. If the UK constitution says Scotland can leave with only Scotland voting on it, and Britain accepts this, then Spain's official position is that "it's a different case"

Hence why ex-yugoslav countries are in the EU, but not Kosovo, because Serbia exclusively objects to Kosovo independence.

I don't know if it's Scotland only, but in Scotland my experience has been:

>Primary School
>Secondary (high) School.
>College or University. (College being for hands-on/technical/vocational stuff, for example you can do hairdressing or joinery) whereas uni is for degree.

My understanding of England was
>Primary
>Secondary
>Sixth form college (basically the last 2 years of HS)
>College or University. (College being for hands-on/technical/vocational stuff, for example you can do hairdressing or joinery) whereas uni is for degree.

But I'm not sure if that's accurate. I think colleges used to be polytechnics.

And it's something we're ashamed of. Hell, those people aren't patriotic either. They'd rather pretend we never made such a sweeping accomplishment in the field of astronomy and cold-war dick-measuring, and instead plug their ears and imagine some hogwash about grand illuminati tier bullshit. And they're mostly in the south, so that says it all really.
They should be ashamed, not just as Americans, but denying a HUMAN accomplishment that big is frankly on par with legitimate treason against humanity's legacy, they're human-race-traitors.
>>
>>88994079
Where you get a 6th form a college mostly depends on where you live different areas have different systems. And yes colleges do also provide technical/vocational courses for over 18.
Most polytechnics upgraded to universities rather than becoming colleges
>>
>>88994152

>>
>>88994152
This is right. College has gotten super fucking dumb. More people are being pushed through college than ever before. Professors don't give a shit and half-ass everything, and the students just coast and get by, too. My girlfriend went back to college last year and was pretty surprised by how pitiful everything was, with both the students and the teachers. Nobody cares, though, as long as they keep collecting tuition payments.

So true. there is a monopoly on the textbooks. Education has just become a way to profit off the uneducated rather than truly educating them. Same reason primary schools get so upset over unexcused absence (students who are absent without an excuse don't count for the daily turn in to determine funding). Schools are a business/indoctrination center not a place of learning.
>>
>>88994775

they bowl for a couple of reasons
1) suprisingly enough it puts most of them on an even playing field, since you have a bunch of them who are in crutches they can't do like 90% of the other activities and like most of the disabled, are still very competitive
2) Bowling alleys are reasonably safe most pedo's have upgraded to parks since Bowling is an old man sport nowadays
3)it keeps them all inside so it is harder for them to wander off, after having to personally track down some kids who have broken away before, the less of those the better
4) Most bowling alleys these days a food court thing so that means they don't have to bring food in and it is normally reasonably priced(but most of the time tastes like hot cardboard)

That is how it is done in small towns, yes. Via a community vote not a bureaucracy. The fact that this isn't tangentially possible in a city yet is just one of the reason they are such hell-holes, despite having such high taxes. Perhaps in the future some app would be sponsored by a government as a utility to vote on proposed public works in a way that is transparent and easier compared to now.

Also a good portion of art displayed in public spaces are donations from families or individuals who like seeing their name on a plaque next to it.

Its true for some folks.

If you're going to college to learn something useful, say, Engineering, then its a fantastic investment. But a lot of people go to college now for the sake of it and end up with a nice piece of paper and a decade or two of debt.

Meanwhile, assuming you pick a career with some mobility, you can make more than enough to support yourself, have a career track, insurance, and be saving money by the time they would have to start their payments. Especially if you wind up in a trade.

College is crucial, but only for certain things. Most people waste their time and destroy their earning potential for a decade so they can get a teaching degree they will never use.

Both. The 1970s was the era that was pushing the "color blind" agenda and felt that it was dubious to bring someone's race into the topic, they basically wanted you not to say or think things like "poor Tom, he can't get a job cause he's black" the idea was to push helping people and shame others to drag race into the light. They also loathed any censorship and felt that offensive things from history needed to stay in the books lest we repeat them. Somewhere along the way we started to really obsess over details like race, gender and what not like it was cancer. Most blame Bill Clinton but he was a conservative Democrat passing such laws that would make it impossible for gays to get married for about 15 years as well as more involved and stricter divorce polices, the PC agenda was campaigned more by Gore who almost seem racist in a condescending way.

I do see Globalism as an inevitable part of life for an increasingly integrated world, my issue is that the economic and social realities have been left completely out of discussion by a terrified and cowardly lot, that have so badly mismanaged and bungled they let reality telvision stars deliver crippling blows simply by asking questions about previously sacriligious topics.

>Why should we have free trade with CHYNA if they cheat on their end etc
>If a communities dominant religion and culture changes over night, what effect could this have?
>to what extent do we pander or demand things to our migrants? What is expected of them?
>>

The US spends a mediocre amount based on total GDP at the moment, and that's with Obama as president.

Considering Trump is actively denying climate change and his pick for the EPA, I'm going to assume that number is going to shit.

China definitely has issues. However, investing in idle building isn't actually the worst idea. America has done it too in the past. It keeps people payed, regardless of actual functionality.

But anyway, China recognizes a problem, and is actually putting it's money where its mouth is. Whereas America is actively shooting itself in the legs.

>>
>>89002235
i actually really agree on that.
globalism can work. it has to work. we are EARTH, home of HUMANITY, not a vauge collection of squabbling territories. when aliens come knocking, we want to be able to say, "yes, we are the federation of earth, nice to meet you."
and i think in order to do that we do have to ask questions.
im a liberal, but i believe in the governing style of "dont make me come over there." in order to make earth perfect, we have to be willing to tell people to knock shit off.

They will fund it to virtue signal but I really doubt they would get any significant traction in replacing thier massive energy needs. The entire Asian continent and the Pacific islands would need to go carbon neutral at that rate along with everyone else on earth, along with farming pumping methane into the the atmosphere the problem can't be stopped or even slowed down.

Most that can be done is removing pollutants from the environment.

The main problem is that China is making moves to out source thier production to Africa and that's the main problem. You don't see it but it's still there.
>>
>>89002483
This.
China is as we speak colonizing Africa, watch Empire of Dust to see their plans to totally exploit the continent.
>>
>>88997980
There are fields you can do that. Medicine, law, engineering, and science you can't.

I see nothing wrong with them bringing civilization to africa

>>89002483
They're already exceeding the goals they announced to the UN, so there's that. It's hard to doubt the explicit numbers.

As for China in Africa- Yeah, it's probably happening. I doubt they'll abandon their technology in the process, however.

You do know that most of those famous artists we celebrate had private patrons supporting them, and the government funding them was a step forward so those personal passionate projects could get made without ten years of dick sucking right?

I hate most artists but you're going to get much less of the good stuff if people don't get funding. Next you'll say that the only science research that should happen is privately funded. On the Internet. Which was developed almost 100% by DARPA.
>>

do something about the unemployment problem by hiring some people to work for you or fuck off
>>
>>89002645
Again, virtue signalling. Thier African plants will produce thier goods and thier pollution. Same as the US did to China.

>>89002672
Everyone needs to suck dick for a job, why should artists be any diffrent?

Plenty make great content with crowd funding and no government aid. No artist is going to make anything useful, just something kind of pretty.

Haha, shit I didn't know who he was but I looked it up and goddamn are they bad. Honestly his Kelly cartoons don't seem too different, they're all making the same point, although it's much better done ironically than just having generic "DONALD TRUMP AND CONSERVATIVES AND LOW-CLASS WHITE VOTERS ARE ALL SCUM AND SHOULD BE SHOT" style librage bullshit. The Kelly cartoons get the same point across while being funny.
>>
>>89002753
it's not Virtue signaling when they're actually making a difference. Again, numbers don't lie.

Except the average person isn't that driven. 99.9% of the time when someone is bitching about how college is a crock of shit and that they are smarter without it they are just a dumbass resentful of either not being able to get into college, flunking out, or being brainwashed by their proudly stupid parents.

It's comics like this that concern me, because Kelly's comics are generally satirizing the right/conservatives/old white males, yet when they touch on something that's true, you can't tell whether it's supposed to be multiple layers of satirizing itself or if it's just the Onion's liberal ownership agenda being irrevocably stupid.

In another thread on another board someone posted a video of the Michael Jackson superbowl halftime show and he performed [It Doesn't Matter If You're] Black or White, and it reminded me how race relations were at an all time high in the 90s.

A ruse is overstating it, but a small amount of jobs which is at best estimations roughly the same as the weekly increases in employment, is being propped up as being of much bigger consequence than it actually is. Manufacturing makes for a better story than the more notable increases Trump could have pointed to.

Spouting off:

Medicine is definitely in the "need to be certified" category.

However, SE and ME are careers where you tend to educate yourself anyway.

Also, the self-educated tend to have better exposure to newer ideas than those who get stuck in a university program (especially in the software world). Professors like to push a certain philosophy or two, and they all have different, sometimes conflicting tastes in their field. It also doesn't help that they tend to have little real-world experience.

Universities here are run like businesses. They have largely degenerated into scams.

Note how there is a clear correlation with the increase in tuition and recent increases in the amount students can borrow.

No sir, no conflict of interest there. Nope. None at all.

The Democratic Party had enacted and proposed policies that have helped minorities in the United States since the turn of the 20th century. The Republican Party, on the other hand, has sought policies that would dramatically hurt minority communities (specifically black), both socially and economically for decades, now.

Believe it or not, it's smarter not to vote against your interests.
