Star-Lord's direction has been pretty shit the past few years but the first issue of his new series was pretty good. The first issue of Rocket Raccoon was pretty good too. All that coupled with Ultimates makes me kind of optimistic for what's to come for cosmic marvel.

Gamora's first issue was lame though not gonna lie and people who aren't Starlin attempting to write Thanos are cursed.

He's going to meet up with Gamora in issue #4 but since the GotG are separated he won't see Peter or the others in that issue.

I'm actually happy that issue #2 was good and from what I've seen online everyone loves it (well aside from Cosmicbook News but fuck em).

I also like the fact that Loveness and Ramon are addressing the whole "Rich coming back to a home that moved on without him" which is something that DnA briefly touched on post-Annihilation but Loveness is expanding it more than one issue.

It's not just that it's back, but that it's back and great right off the bat. It's more than anyone could've reasonably asked for with how Marvel is currently going. As a fan of both cosmic and X-Men this book not just coming out, but being actually, honest to god, good is mind-blowing.

Only since Bendis/the movies. The "flare" symbol was originally just Star-Lord's and the Guardians as a team didn't have an emblem. You can argue that the team adopted the Nova Centurion emblem as well to honor Rich's sacrifice or something, but the real reason is probably because Bendis' only knowledge of DnA cosmic came from the movie.

It's not GREAT, but it's a lot more introspective and, well, hard on Carol than the solicit suggested. It's decent, and it actually makes Carol into the grouchy, violent, self-hating misanthrope that she always has been in the past. There's a bit of "yaas queen", but it really seems like it was editorially mandated rather than being something Stohl wanted to include.
Writers usually don't write the solicits, though.

That Anon was right to say there was a big Reed influence. Carol barely sleeping and wrestling with her decissions and a final page that is her fighting herself in a dream. She seems to be back to being her own worst enemy. She legitimately seems in-character again.
So that's good. It's also still a part SWORD book which I like.

Questionable parts:
- the art makes everyone look insufferably smug in all situations
- the first pages are dedicated to highlighting that she has a fan-club in-universe. Hard to tell how much they will keep pushing this just to appeal to five women on tumblr
- Brand isn't enough of a bitch. She even lends emotional support to Carol in one scene which is disappointing since I actually like her more than Carol herself.
- Majestaani refugee crisis as a major plot point. Not terrible by itself, but this sort of stuff tends to get pretty on-the-nose later and it also guarantees that any thread will be shitposted to death by /pol/
- this might be the one that some Anons will just fucking hate: In a flashback Carol gets told by her dad that she can't study astrophysics, because her family is broke and her brother is already going to college. Her father then tells her she has to work full-time to make ends meet and suggests she should put on a skirt, pretty up and marry a guy. This is her reasong for joining the military now.

All-in-all it was just a #0, not a #1, so it's hard to say if things will go straight to hell from here or improve.

What? in the era she was born the woman gets the preferential college treatment while the man goes off to war. This was a common thing.

They're purposely painting men in a bad light, when you could've easily just had it be that the family was in dire straits and that was the only way she'd get to do her thing.

If it only add "Women are smart" then it's shit, but if it reinforces a love of flying, and extends it to a love of space, then that's actually good.
