I honestly can not see this show ending without a happy ending where the diamonds and HW gems make peace with the CG and leave earth alone.

Pearl came to terms with the fact that Steven was what Rose wanted, and though she had trouble understanding why that is, she seems to come to a realization about it by the end of Three Gems and a Baby. Garnet similarly has seemed to "believe in Steven" since the earliest episodes, understanding perhaps a bit because of her future vision, his potential for humans and gems. Humans have no value and not even any control over the fate of their home planet by an invasion of spacefaring species. They hardly even know they exist. Those that do don't question it, or other are kept in a space zoo. They're little more than emotional livestock in this story.

Humanity only continues to exist not because of their own will to survive, but because the Gems keep a zoo (none of those on Earth know about) and Steven is the savior of the human race. Is this because of some sort of enlightenment? Was he a seismologist that discovered a Kindergarten or the Cluster or an astronomer that saw all that wacky shit going on in LEO with the Red Eye or anything of that sort? No, he's not some normal human that decided serious shit might be happening. He's a demigod. His position as savior is earned through birthright; none of humanity can do anything to safeguard their future without him because of what he was born as.

The whole thing is an experiment too so who going on the fact that they have little information to go on since peridot has been MIA but I feel like there is probably going to be a follow up mission quite soon regarding it, and thats when (hopefully) Steven will (not) be ready to give the cluster further purpose beyond just being massively bubbled.
