>>
>>88939026
Get rich as fuck.

He did that, then Thneedville kicked him out at the end, which means... he's still rich as fuck, but now has to move and invest in some new startups or buy some shares in another company, enough to move up the corporate ladder and use his previous universal rule experience to become a CEO of some other high yield company.

Meanwhile, Thneedville collapses, their trees don't grow back fast enough to make air, so they have to leave, and now are jobless, homeless, and without a future.

This movie is kinda darker than the original.

The guy is keeping the town in a perpetual state of pollution where basic things such as fresh air are not potable. It's not like he remained an opportunistic businessman his entire run, he was well-aware that his bottling factories polluted the air even further and wanted to keep opening more factories for that purpose.

He doesn't even have anything else to gain. O'Hare has total control of the town down to the point it's almost an Orwellian society. There are no outsiders who come to provide the town of basic needs, everything is artificial and gets recycled over and over again. There is no more money to gain from people who are already in your control. So yes, he's being a selfish and petty manlet for not letting the people keep the trees.

Make the short midget who took advantage of other people's stupidity the bad guy.

At the end of the movie, the guy is still filthy rich and the mayor of the town. He'll just invest in other shit while the town loses jobs to plant trees and stuff. Not that planting trees is wrong but midget is certainly not the loser in this movie.

I don't understand, was every tree in the entire world cut down, or just the truffula trees?

Even before O'Hare left, what was the economy of the town even composed of? Air production?

With the return of Truffula trees, then the town can create a profitable forestry business, perhaps supplemented by tourism?

Really, the moral of the movie should be for businesses to look into long term rather than short term gains. If O'Hare had accepted and monopolized the Truffula trees and trade, he could have become far richer. Instead he saw the short term gain by destroying a rival to his air production businesses. Similar concept with the Once-ler. Rather than taking time and investing in sustainable forestry for his truffula trees, he just demolished the entire forest for maximum short term profit.
>>
I honestly thought "How bad can I be" is actually catchy. The rest of the movie is meh and I kind of rather forget about it.

>the moral of the movie should be for businesses to look into long term rather than short term gains.
That is the fucking point of the story. In the original animated version (not sure about the book), the Once-ler points out that just shutting down everything would put hundreds of people out of work, and the Lorax says that he has a valid point and that there could be a compromise that allows the company and the forest to coexist. Being capitalist isn't inherently evil, it's when you're shortsighted and don't bother looking at the effects of your actions that causes problems.

I'm annoyed by how shallow and poorly thought out the movie is, even for a kids movie. Dozens of anon posts completely tear apart the world of he story, and nobody's even reaching that hard or over-analyzing to do so. Just basic common sense Illumination either forgot about or simply ignored.

>The Original Book as a perfect strucutre demonstrating the Onceler's fall

>The first time the Lorax tries to change his mind, the Lorax tries to tell him nobody will buy his Thneeds. The Lorax is incorrect because someone does and this functions to demonstrate that just because someone's wrong about something doesn't mean they're wrong about everything but it also makes sense as to why the Onceler ignores his advice at this point

>The Second Time, the Lorax demonstrates how his success has hurt the native group of Bears. The Onceler shows remorse at his actions, but then justifies it because it becomes a conflict between his happiness vs the bears happiness and it's human nature to preserve yourself first.

>The third time, the Lorax makes evident that the Onceler has fucked over both the Fish and the Swans. At this point the Onceler can't morally defend himself because he's fucked over 3 different groups and morally it's no longer a 1 for 1 scenario and the pain he's causing is more than the happiness he's creating. So he doesn't rationally defend his actions he just gets angry.

>The final conversation isn't even a conversation as the Onceler has finally realized his error, but far too late to change anything, so theirs no point in communication anymore. The Lorax leaves his final world and the Onceler is forced to face the consequences of his actions

It's fucking basic shit but it's fundamentally great because of that since you can connect this to anything thematically and make it work.

The unheeded warning that seems stupid.
Trying to balance what's right and wrong.
Losing any sense of rationality.
Realization after the fall as you reach the lowest point with no hope in sight

It may be the single most cynical, pandering, cash-grab in that generation of films. Minions weren't even this bad, or at least weren't as openly contradicting the message of the original content.

Ironically, the O'Hare Air commercial might have been the only kind of funny part in the film.

You want to hear something really upsetting? This is from four years ago, when production on the new Grinch movie started.

http://www.firstshowing.net/2013/universal-and-illumination-remaking-how-the-grinch-stole-christmas/

>Variety reports How the Grinch Stole Christmas is on the docket for an animated adaptation that will be more faithful to the book, which actually lends itself better to the three act structure of a film, making it so less original material has to be created to pad out a feature film adaptation

Illumination never even saw how Lorax had a 3 act structure, or so they claim.

Wouldn't have even had to rebrand. His company is already known for clean air ffs. O'Hare could have easily made bank off of a new tree trend.

>buy all the shit land outside of town
>sell tree "adoption" certificates to Thneedvillers
>when people start going on tree-sighting vacations in 10 years you then make extra bank on running tours

O'Hare was an idiot for only thinking about next quarter instead of even thinking one year into the future.
