Who is your favorite Joe, or COBRA?hard mode: no snake eyes
>>88930732
favorite joe? i dunno, that newer animated series tunnelrat was pretty slick, as well as that duke. im pretty sure it was called renegades? I dunno, im not a huge GI JOE fan, but i really liked that show and an anime movie I saw a long time ago. I forgot the name of it and could never find it. Its got a really brutal fight between stormshadow and snake eyes, you know what im talkin about?
Anywho, good luck on your thread anon. I hope to see obscure joes.
I actually owned this
>>88930732Skywarp
Joe: Sargent Slaughter
Cobra: Cobra Commander
Why do they never use Slaughter anymore?
>>88931000
Deal with the WWE expired?
>>88931000
Probably because he doesn't wrestle anymore
>>88931017
He was wwf
>>88931000
i kind of think it's because they no longer have rights to his likeness or something because there was a recent issue of ARAH in which he was shown, but only in silhouette
>>88931000
>tfw you could only get SGT Slaughter by order
>tfw your parents never gave you permission
my holy grail. anyway, my favorite toys were the ones that came with animals.
>>88931029
Same thing, isn't it? Wasn't he still wrestling when they had to change the name?
>>88930732
Does it look to anyone else like he's hula hooping?
>>88931301
Yes. Even after I opened the full image, it took me several seconds to realize what he was actually doing.
>>88930732
>>88931000
he's a real person
they can't just use him at their leisure
they'd need to sign a new contract with him
Joe: Low-Light, Beach Head and Lady Jaye.
Cobra: Wild Weasel, Destro and Baroness.
Also, Big Boa is the most tragic Cobra of them all.
>>88931017
>>88931029
>>88931287
doesn't matter
they never had a contract with macmahon
slaughter was awa during his gi joe era
>>88931000
I remain furious that Hasbro didn't follow up on Roddy Piper being a member of Cobra.
>>88931388
Feels bad man.
>>88930732
I have an immense amount of affection for Cover Girl, and the newest series is making me like Quick Kick and Rock&Roll a lot too.
From the Cobras, Croc Master and Crystal Ball.
There's a lot of great joes but I'd have to go with shipwreck if only for that Springfield two-parter in the sunbow series.
Best cobra is Stratoviper for sure. Best design, best jet and best personality trait; colossal asshole.
>>88931472
>quick kick
>the only Joe who cant enter a quickie mart
>>88931455
He lives on in our hearts.
>>88931491
He's got a shirt now.
ultimate trainer
WILD WEASEL UP IN THIS SHIT!
(the best names are the ones that alliterate.)
>>88930732
Joe: Always been a Duke fan
Cobra: Stormshadow, before the movies made him a faggot
Serpentor can suck it.
Why can't we have nice things?
>>88932118
Who are all the official celebrity Joes/Cobra?
>Walter "The Fridge" Perry
>Sgt. Slaughter
>Rocky Balboa (bio, but no toy)
>Roddy Piper (only celebrity Cobra, right?)
>>88932148
Does the cast of Street Fighter count?
>>88932194
Street Fighter crossed over with G.I. Joe?
>>88932208
In toy for back in the 90s and in comic form last year.
>>88930946
Oh brother.
>>88932417
Neat. Is it the whole lineup in the comics, or just a few? Guile is obvious, but who else made the cut?
It's a franchise jam-packed with fantastic characters so it's really really hard to choose just a few. But here's some that I enjoy a lot
Joes:
Roadblock
Outback
Lady Jaye
Flint
Cobras:
Wild Weasel
Destro
Firefly
Raptor
>>88932455
I haven't read it sadly. Here's the toys though.
>>88930732
Joe: Flint
Cobra: Tomax and Xamot (they're basically the most outlandish antagonists you could imagine)
The Viper
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyXrwbg1G7c
>>88932886
Did they rip off scary stories to tell in the dark?
A true classic
https://youtu.be/RkPEHM38_DA
>>88930732
>Favorite Joe
Beachhead. Dude was like the elite to G.I. Joe's elite.
>Favorite Cobra
Cobra Commander because he was easily the most entertaining to watch.
Joe: Tunnel Rat, Lady Jaye
Cobra: Baroness, Firefly
Superfluous 3rd tier character affiliated with neither: Daina from the Oktober Guard
>>88930732
Joe: Flint
Cobra: Stormshadow
>>88933126
Oh man, did you see the latest ARAH issue, with Storm Shadow in full jungle combat gear... AND white mask? It was amazing.
>>88933189
No, should I get back into G.I Joe. Are the stories good?
The motherfucking Dreadnoks.
>>88933315
Definitely. The arcs feel a bit longer than back in the day and the art takes a while to get used to, but it's 100% Hama. Great stuff.
>>88933414
We're cold slither
You'll be joining us soon
A band of vipers
playing our tune
With an iron fist
and a reptile hiss
we shall rule!
We're tired of words
We've heard it before
We're not gonna play the game no more
Don't tell us what's right
Don't tell us what's wrong
Too late to resist
Cause Cobra is strong

WE'RE COLD SLITHER
Favorite Joe: Wild Bill. Cowboy pilots are rad.
Favorite Cobra: Destro. Though I often like stories where he's working independently from Cobra.
>>88930732
Shipwreck is objectively thr best Joe, but GI Joe vs Transformers made me love General Flagg and Scarlet.
>>88930732
Joes: Shipwreck, no contest here. Roadblock and Rock'n'Roll are close third and second.
Cobra: firstly Cobra Commander for being a joy to read and watch. Secondly Destro for being, well, Destro.
Fumbles you know the best sniper they had until the incident.
Sgt. Slaughter. He's as strong as they come.
I don't know. Destro, I guess?
>>88937537
I still love that bit.
>>88933189
It's weird how that sort of seemingly little things end up exciting you the most. With Stalker there it was like flashback to Nam again.
G.Joes: Flint, Lady Jaye, and Low-Light.
Cobra: Cobra Commander, Firefly, and Wild Weasel.
>>88937104
I'm sad that there's never been a /toy/ of Flagg, only his son.
>>88930732
Favorite Joe: Lady Jaye
Favorite Cobra: Cobra Commander
IDW's Rock 'n' Roll might become my favorite Joe overtime though if he continues being great.
>>88930732
Zartan. I like him the way he was near the end of the original comic, as this independent force that can dance between the Joes and the Cobras and Destro by being sneakier than any of them.
>>88930732
Joes: Gung Ho, Shipwreck and Lady Jaye
Cobra: Baroness, B.A.T.sI own 20+ versions of Snake Eyes.
>>88932208
And they made Mortal Kombat too.

>>88942406I own 20 Cobra Commanders. You can practically have an army of those two and Storm Shadows.
Why aren't there more "explosives/demolition experts" in G.I. Joe? You'd think that'd be an obvious "specialty" for characters to have, but it's super rare in the series.
>>88944299
there was that guy with the bazooka, but i forgot his name
>>88944309
I mean like dudes with bombs and shit. Not just RPGs and missiles (which there are plenty of).
>>88944332

Even Sigma 6

Joe: Rock and Roll
Cobra: Alley Viper or any of the Crimson Guard

Lightfoot and Tripwire are both mine/mine disposal guys who, with land mines now being largely illegal, would probably be double duty EOD/demolitions, I think.
>>88943800
>heroic guy with a full face mask and flamethrower
>>88930732
>Who is your favorite Joe, or COBRA?
Rock and Roll. Or Shockwave, because his original toy was badass.
Also, the only version of Storm Shadow to ever be worth a damn is the Joe side version.
Cobra:
Gotta go with Destro here.
Cesspool was little used, but his filecard description was like a perfect distillation of what Larry Hama's Cobra was.
>>88946935
I am now imagining Cobra Commander saying all of Bison's lines from that movie.

Shockwave is indeed fucking awesome.
>>88948498
cobra commander will never be all dead
>>88948712
cobra has sweet moves
For the Joes it's Slaughter. For the Cobra's I'd have to say I like the Vipers or any of the generic 9-to-5er troops. Poor souls never really understand what they're going to get themselves into.
>>88946935
would van damme make a great duke?
>>88931000
Slaughter and Cobra Commander were the best ones.
I liked Baroness and Lady Jaye (I think that is her name) for different reasonsmuh dick
>>88930732
Snake Eyes
>>88930822
Chuckles is legit 10/10
>>88930732
Joe: Beachhead
Cobra: Firefly
>>88944274
>you will never be dommed by the Baroness.
>>88930732
Heavy Duty or Tunnel Rat
>>88944299
You had explosive ordinance guys like Bazooka, Zap, Short-Fuze and the first Snake Eyes came with a purse full of bombs, but having a guy like Tripwire makes more sense than having someone who's job it is to blow shit up. At least for a kid's show.

>>88945525
>>88931077
Joe: Beachhead
Cobra: Duke
i blame the Reloaded series from the early 2000's for this. had the heel turn for Duke and had Beach running a one man guerrilla war in Hawaii against Cobra and getting pissed when Mainframe got a hold of him to give him a mission. Beach was having fun terrorizing those poor bastards
>tries to destroy the global scam that is the international banks and fiat money
>wants to go back to gold standard
Why was cobra the bad guys again?
despite having way fewer figures than the Joes, cobra accounted for 40% of sales
people attribute this to the faceless, primary colored, nature of the cobras
>>88952660
Yeah, the fact that he's one of the original Joes but never really got used much is why he's being used as the "main character" of the new ongoing. I'm liking him so far.
Flint.
Part of the reason I became a beret wearing Army mofo.
>>88931000
Joe:Beachhead and Duke
Cobra:Croc-master and Firefly
>>88952660
>>88953683
Rock&Roll (along with Clutch) used to have plenty of focus, they even had an entire subplot about being Manchurian candidate brainwashed by Cobra.
>>88952660
Best written cartoon Joe. Had some amazing, character building episodes in both Sunbow and DiC. And when he wasn't the focus or was on screen simply as a supporting Joe, he was hilarious.
He got little attention, but what he got was absolutely fantastic.
>>88931301
good, it wasn't just me
>>88953597
As a kid I had way more Joes but as an adult I'm more likely to army build Cobra goons. So I guess it makes sense.
>>88930732
Joe: Shipwreck
Cobra: Commander, second Stormshadow
>>88930732
BEACHHEAD! Most operator Joe!
Also Zartan is my fav cobra.
>>88930732
Would you guys read an all-ages comic about the Joe and Cobra animals? Like an Art Baltazar type thing.
>>88957930
I feel like they did a backup comic of that at some point.
>>88930946
Came here for this, was not disappointed.
That said I wanna see more of him and Rock n' Roll, it looks like they'll have a fun relationship.
>>88945883
Unf I love how that cartoon had sexy and competent women and at the same time I didn't see any of that dumb "but you're a girl" shit that the other cartoons pulled.
Also Baroness has huge boobs too
>>88948712

Destro: Is this a joke? This money isn't even worth the paper it's printed on!
Cobra Commander: On the contrary. Every Cobra dollar will be worth five British pounds. That is the exchange rate that the bank of England will implement after I kidnap their Queen.
Cobra Commander: AAAAH! The road not taken. But why? WHY do they still call me a warlord? AND MAD? All I want to do is create the perfect genetic soldier. Not for power! Not for evil! BUT FOR GOOD! Shipwreck will be the first of many. They shall march out of my laboratory. And sweep away every adversary, every creed, every nation. Until the very planet is in the loving coils of the pax Cobrasonica. Then peace will reign in the world and all humanity shall bow to me in humble gratitude....
Road Pig: Dat was beautiful...
>>88944412
you beat me to the punch
>>88930732
So Shipwreck's design always bothered me. He's got the markings of a Chief Petty Officer, and he's always set as a post WWII sailor. Problem is, Chiefs wore khaki-colored uniforms after WWII. Those dungarees (tunic and work pants you see there) are for lower enlisted ratings.
Also, what's his rate? Boatswain's Mate? That's what they always make generic sailor characters because they have the iconic double anchor insignia, but has GI Joe ever asked this question?
Navybro here, just wondering.
>>88932695
The going theory/rumor is that Ken got his last name Masters for this line to differentiate him from Barbie's Ken.
>>88953007
Please tell me this is not an edit
>>88965523
His original look is a callback to the 1964 Action Sailor toy. Most versions of the toys are an alt color of that look, a diving suit or a commando sweater and knit cap. His filecards list him as E-7/CPO. No idea about his rate. This is the most recent Shipwreck.
>>88966305
Seeing "body massage" was the highlight of the Danger Girl crossover.
>>88930732
I liked Flint and Lady Jaye a lot in the show. Beachhead was great, too.
Bazooka's got my favorite design, though. The bromance with Alpine was fun.
>>88965523

Yeah, his shoulder insignia on the OP is for a Chief (E-7/CPO), but unlike actual Chief emblems, his doesn't have his rate. A real CPO badge looks like pic related.
Thanks, sorry for putting so much thought into a toyline...silly on my part. With that new look, he's definitely rated an SO (Special Operations AKA SEAL). If his logo was correct, it would have the SEAL insignia instead of the crossed keys. It's hard to find a non-shitty image of the SEAL Chief insignia, so I had to use my rates...
>>88970508
Also, as an aside, if it's gold in color, that means they've gone 12 years without major disciplinary issues, so it's actually okay that Shipwreck's are red. He's probably done some shit.
>>88970213
David Duchovny?

>>88970508

Well, I think they generally tried their best. Larry Hama certainly wrote with his Army service in mind.
>>88970554
Yea that is one of the reasons he wound up in the Joes. He got pulled out the brig.
>>88970721

>>88970788
>What exactly gets you into the Joes anyways?
I think basically Flagg/Hawk gets to pick whoever he wants for the team?
I honestly don't think they've ever gone into how recruits are actually chosen, in ANY version of the series. There have been a few stories where potential recruits are given a test mission to be cleared to join, though.
