Think of it as something like the Great Lakes Avengers showing up in Civil War, or Squirrel Girl teaming up with Punisher. Do they exist in this universe? Yeah. Should they show up in another series just because they also happen to just be nearby? No.

I mean, she's as serious as any other teen character. I think people who say this don't actually read the book because if they did they'd realize it gets pretty serious. And besides she's a character who knows a ton about other characters because she's read them all in her universes comics. That in and of itself provides interesting possibilities for character interactions. I know people don't like her because of the association with deadpool or Gwen Stacy but purely as a concept she's one of the more interesting big 2 characters created in the last decade.

I think what she is kind of makes stories too meta. I mean, she's there to remind you this is a comic book, so no matter how immerse you get, she will constantly remind you "Hey! It's not that she's a gag character. It's that she (like Kamala) is one of those characters that everyone absolutely knows is going to turn to shit the second anyone other than their creator gets a hold of em. Kamala (as I mentioned earlier) is a perfect example since she's mostly been written like shit by Waid.
I could see either of them working under Ewing but for whatever reason Modern writers do not have the time to research a character before they write them enough to make them stay in character.
