So, I just bought the Incal.
What can I expect?
Should I read this first, or should I first read Before the Incal? How about the Metabarons?
you already bought it, just read it

Just read the thing, man. It won't be like anything you know. Which isn't saying it's the best thing you will ever read (but maybe), but probably not like something you have read.
Moebius is like a god of comic dynamics and the story lives through his visual genius. If you like the dynamics and detail of Frank Quitelys art (disregarding faces), this is his idol in that regard.
I also like Jodorowskys "story", even though it is not much more than a loose association of cool concepts. It's a trip and an experience.
Coincidentally, I bought that exact edition in March 2012, a few days before Moebius died. That was a bummer. Luckily, about a year later my LCS informed me about a collector selling his Moebius editions to pay for alimony. Although a sad occasion for the collector, I got to buy most of the essential stuff like Arzach, the Citroen comic and some others and to really appreciate what a great artist he was.

the best thing ever
also mindfuck, symbols and metaphores
>>88928273
Don't expect John to change very much in The Incal itself. The book's less about his development and more about the fabulous universe he lives in.
He gets a much better showing as a character in BEFORE and FINAL.
>>88928273
>DUDE LUDDITE SOCIALISM LMAO
Moebius is fantastic.
Jodo is garbage.
Reading order is The Incal > Before the Incal > Final Incal > The Metabarons.
Nothing else in the Jodoverse is worth reading. The Technopriests in particular is awful.

>Jodo is garbage.
This.
Jodorowsky is hot garbage. His constant obsession with the human reproduction cycle hovers over literally everything he has ever done. Often it is so out in the open, his characters are driven by nothing else and the whole stories resolves around this issue one way or another.
He has some interesting ideas sometimes about the setting and its surroundings but thats it.
That being said The Incal is probably his best work.
While metabarons had cool art, the story is pure shit revolving around muh dick.
>>88928273
Is that an Incal omnibus, Anon?
If it is, why are you posting on an Argentinian sexual neurosis board instead of reading the shit out of that motherfucker right now?
>>88928273
Great art, with a story that is borderline nonsense.
>>88929601
>>88930108
yes.
The sad fact is that eurocomics, like all comics, mostly suck.
>>88930108
The Metabarons is intended to be something like Hundred Years of Solitude in WH40K universe. It succeeds in being hilariously edgy like 40K, but not so much in being 2deep4u like Marquez.
>>88929601
>The technopriests in particular
Have you never read Megalex?
Besides, most of his historical stuff is decent.
>>88929601
Or maybe you're unable to read beyond "muh dick" and are confusing having and being. The metabarons is more about family and conflict than sex.
Jodorowsky loves nothing more than throwing concepts at a page. If you keep that in mind you won't be disappointed by the barely defined characters or the story on acids, and will probably enjoy the allegories.

Plebs who haven't read bouncer
>>88928273
>Should I read this first, or should I first read Before the Incal?
Either order. Before's a prequel but was published after, it syncs with the start of Incal perfectly but introduced plot points that didn't even exist when the main story was written and thus don't pay off until Final Incal.
>How about the Metabarons?
Dumb fun. Read whenever.
>>88929601
>>88930108
>>88928273
Also Technopriests is fucking awesome.
Read Technopriests.
>>88931835
I'd leave Metabarons for later, the Metabaron in Incal is a complete jobber compared to his appearance in The Metabarons.
Any further Moebius recommendations?
>>88932676
Arzach
Avoid the animated adaptation like paleo-plague though
>>88932676
L'Aedena
Got a full compilation in October. That shit was awkward af to get a hold of before.
>>88931300
This. Whenever people bring Jodo, they always bring up the same books. He's written many books outside of that unviserse.
Bouncer is great, Anibal 5 is crazy, Madwoman of the Scared Heart is his best book and it's drawn by Moebius so you should read it anyways. There's probably some other books I'm forgetting as well.
>>88932676
Blueberry.
>>88934375
>There's probably some other books I'm forgetting as well.
I think White Lama is the best intro to Jodo
