What happens if Death dies?
>>
>>88919617
She gets replaced.
But it's pretty much almost impossible to actually kill her.
>>
Then it's a whole bunch of Strange Aeons then.
>>
>>88919660
But when Dream died, Death went and "retrieved" him. Who does that when she dies?
>>
>>88919617

Look up Earth X or the Cancerverse.

Even though they're Marvel.
>>
>>88919731

She does.

>Death dies
>seal is broken
>darkness is released
>MCs and a rogue angel have to team up with the king of hell and his hot witch mom to save the day
you know the gist.
>>
>>88919617
She dies once every 100 years.
It's like you've not even read the comic.

You can't really kill Death. In the end she'll take every one of the Endless, with Destiny being the last. Then existence will end. Other than that, she dies every 100 years when she takes mortal form.
>>
>>88920241
He's right though. At the end of The High Cost of Living, Death's mortal form died and she appears to retrieve herself.

I WANT TO FUCK DEATH

Cancerverse.
>>
The personified Endless that we see in the stories are small facets of the greater concept they represent. Morpheus was just one small part of Dream. Death is more vast and mysterious than the cute goth girl we see. If she were to die, another aspect of Death would rise to take her place and deliver her to whatever waits beyond. What it would be and how it would happen depends on the circumstances of her death.

That's why DC can have multiple personifications of Death. Necron, the Black Flash, etc.

There's a difference between her mortal form dying, and her "immortal" form dying similarly to Dream at the end of Sandman.

fuck off.
>>

its true though. in the hypothetical scenario that Death of the Endless dies, (in a way that does not involve the end of the universe) she will be replaced by another version of Death, who will likely collect the "old" Death.

isnt that what happened with Dream?
>>
>>88919617
According to the DC encyclopedia, that's literally the end.
>>

Lucifer speaks with Death at one point in his series, and mentions that if he wanted to, he could kill her. She agrees, but says "killing" her would only be "shooting the messenger" and implies that it wouldn't stop her.

>>88921827
That may or may not be semi-particular to Dream (stories are all about points of view, and Daniel was in the right position and had that dreamstone, which let him take on the mantle). Nekron certainly isn't a Death aspect, and Gaiman has been very insistent that Death of the Endless is the true Death.

On the other hand, we're on the second Despair, so clearly something happened when the first one died, we just don't know what. I like the idea that the one who kills Despair becomes the new Despair, personally. Matches with the "the one who killed Despair shall take the rest of eternity to die, and only then will his pain cease" comment.
>>
>>88922238
Dream, and supposedly the previous Despair too.

The last volume of Sandman lays out the process by which a previous incarnation of an Endless is laid to rest (traveling to the Necropolis Litharge, creating an envoy, retrieving the funeral shroud, and finally having a funeral before officially acknowledging the new incarnation of said Endless), but it never explicitly states HOW a new incarnation comes about.

This is one thing I've always wondered about: how do new Endless come about. Dream planned ahead in a way--he made Daniel his "successor" and Daniel inherited the mantle of Dream. Does this mean that every Endless must designate a replacement beforehand?

Also: if an envoy is created for each fallen Endless and lacks the ability to do whatever their respective Endless embodied, that would mean an envoy created for Death's--uh...death--wouldn't be able to die, right? So, theoretically speaking, if the world ends and Death the 2nd collects everyone, does this envoy just kinda sit around after the deal, waiting for a new universe to begin?

Sorry, just thinking out loud. Ignore me.

Killing Death was completely unrelated to freeing Amara.

>comparing one of the best characters in arguably the most well written comic series of all time to marvel's shitty version

why even shit up the thread by talking about a completely different character than the one OP was referring to?
>>
>>88919617
Why the fuck is she a "she'?
>>
>>88919731
no one, she canĀ“t die, she`s death itself
>>
>>88925207
"And with strange aeons even death may die."
>>
>>88925550
No death dying is just well stupid, see for something to die it needs to have is consiousness dependent on something that can be destroyed. Thus death would be either indestructable or have a consiousness that can exist without anything thus being unkillable unless you reality warp.

However since death is the absence of consiousness, this would make death's mind pretty much impossible to explain because its not a consiousness nor is it unconsious its just I have no idea.
>>
>>88925263
because cute goth girl
>>
>>88923380
I don't think they would be able to make an envoy, since Death is the one who breaths life into the creation of the endless.

>>88925632
Death represents the duality of life and death though, as each of the endless in some way represents their opposite as well.
