It was pretty good actually, and given that it ended only due to Disney's old 65 episode rule I think it must have been reasonably successful. Very lightweight and goofy but likable and with some clever writing, a lot of episodes written by Scott M. Gimple (creator of Filmore/showrunner of The Walking Dead) and Mo Rocca.
It's got a different feel due to being aimed towards tweens rather than kids and it occasionally delved into "girl issues" which gave it some distinction but for the most part it's just like a funnier version of Doug, great voice acting too. And the finale is both amusingly inaccurate to 2015 and also a painful hit in the feels.
At this point its obscurity lies more in it not being on TV for over a decade and there not being an official release in any capacity. There were lost episodes up until this June, but they've all been found now

The whole friends becoming love interests things in all these tween-teen shows is because it's super easy. You've already got this opposite sex person hanging around all the time, interacting with the MC. No need to do anything else but through one-off, seasonal characters at the MC and then hook them up with the friend later down the line. I doubt it's planned in most instances, it merely becomes incredibly convenient a few seasons in. This is the kind of shit that leads to weirdness like Wizard's of Waverly Place or Ben 10. While I understand Tumblr is annoying, I'll say that for me, I don't like the term "friendzone" because it implies that friendship is either some form of punishment or at the very least less meaningful than a romantic relationship. This only worked because for a majority of the series there wasn't strong romantic chemistry between the two.

If the series had been Ron being a love sick puppy towards Kim until she finally settled it would have been bad. But since both were actively pursing other romantic avenues until realizing themselves the love they had towards each other it works.

Last season with couple Kim and Ron was pretty decent too if I remember. Pairing Draken and Shego was bullshit though.
