To be serious though, WW only really works as an ensemble, not as the main event. If you took Superman or Batman and threw them into their own show, it works because they're both established characters who can carry a show w/o anyone else's assistance.

WW on the other hand, you try to describe her and the only thing you can only say is either "warmonger," "eye candy," or "3rd wave feminist" which doesn't really work as well for a long standing solo series when she can't play off of Superman's humanity and optimism and/or Batman's stoicism and cynicism.

Actually, you're dead wrong, mate. Wonder Woman works best when she's solo. When she's in an ensemble cast they mangle her character precisely because she's too much alike with Superman. So they take away her humanity and optimism, since no other characters can have that when Superman's around, and in turn she's reduced to a warmonger that needs to be told how to better behave.

She's got a strong sense of justice that is dwarfed only by her Amazonian love of war and fighting. While she wants peace she also seems to love battle and war and so she gets a thrill out of a good fight.

She is also conflicted between her Amazonian views on men and the modern world's views on women and she often times finds herself pulled between those extremes.

That's the important parts I feel and how I'd probably write her if I ever got the chance.

The thing is, a huge majority of the popular DC characters are bordering on "blank slate". As long as you keep a handful of their core traits consistant (and sometimes you don't even have to do that.) and then just write them however you want.

They're basically simplistic so everyone can have their own interpenetration of their personalities and interactions from writer to writer. Honestly the biggest appeal to me for DC comics is seeing how each writer differently interprets the characters.

"Fish out of water" characters only really work when you have an ensemble to balance them out, otherwise it can become really easy for them to appear annoying as hell or too topical for their own good.

WW's expertise in warfare doesn't really fit in a setting where there's a strict "no-kill" policy for most heroes and only a fraction of the villains they fight actually have relevance to Greek culture so that's out.

And a lot of WW's worst characterizations came about when the writers tried to emphasis political or gender issues through her, to the point where she appeared in one comic rudely shoving a man aside while saying "one side sperm bank."

I'm not saying it's impossible but considering we already have Superman, Capt. American, and Thor, there isn't really a lot of undiscovered ground for WW to excel in that another (male) superhero didn't already explore.

Wonder Woman is an attempt to "include" girls into a genre they don't give a single fuck about.

Which is to say boy's comics where the conflict needing resolution is kicking Darkseid/Ares ass while stomping on all his slavering minions.
