Their cause is "she's a bitch." and their methods are "we're gonna murder her."

Given that earlier that issue she directly called him out by name, he's probably going to agree that she's a bitch.
>>
>>88884367
That's the rub, ain't it? On a basic level, you want to side with people that obviously don't have it as good as another group. But then you see them come across as pieces of shit with self righteous attitudes and a general disregard for tact because they think popular opinion will make them untouchable to scrutiny. At that point, you want to see them driven into the ground even further because humans naturally hate assholes, thus the frustration that sets in when they're proven "half right" in fiction.

It's a lack of understanding exactly that sort of nuanced outlook on human reaction that makes these "Knowing is half the battle" childish moral lessons in modern cape comics so frustrating. If they were realistic about it, which is at least partly the goal with modern comics vis a vis their penchant for taking up timely social causes, you'd have at least a few characters start to go "god damn, these people are annoying the shit out of me, I just want all of them to shut the fuck up" instead of giving them complete moral absolution and unquestioning solidarity.

This is satirical in the same sense that the SCUM Manifesto is satirical. Sure, you might have written this one thing to skewer a target for laughs and garner attention, but when you spend the rest of your time shooting Andy Warhol, it's actually pretty understandable when people take that thing at face value.

At least we got another round of false equivalencies between the overt-but-genuine political slant of past creators and the smug styled, politics-as-games shit people squeeze through their asshole now. /co/ never misses a beat on that.
>>
This is a obvious bait thread and look at how many people are biting.
>>
>>88889451
>gay characters coming out of the closet,
Marvel did that with Northstar, and it resulted in an immediate line-wide turn to conservatism because the attention made them scared e.g. PAD's abortion story in X-Factor was butchered into incoherence.

>huge push for feminism with the exponential amount of new bad ass women characters,
That's a fetish, not feminism.

>pro-gun control specials in the wake of school shootings becoming big news,
I don't remember any of these.

>teen pregancy stories,
The only one of these I can recall was Spoiler in Robin and that was conservative Chuck Dixon subtly pushing an anti-premarital sex and anti-abortion agenda.

>Comics have always been progressive.
"Progressive" is not how I'd describe superheroes, who started out as lone wolf vigilantes who use physical force to stop criminals that the government is unable to handle.

>stereotypes are true or stop over-generalizing people
>>
>The story by Nick Spencer is certainly intended to satirize extreme social justice warriors as well as their opponents, but ultimately carries an unambiguously progressive message. In the comic, released this month, Captain America Sam Wilson’s new sidekick Joaquin Torres—the Falcon—opines about a stand-in for Lauren Southern and Milo Yiannopoulos whose anti-illegal immigrant rhetoric on a TV show enrages him. Falcon teams up with a superhero named Rage, and they both head down to a college campus to mock her and speak their minds.
>As the two superheroes are addressing her, a group of three costumed characters calling themselves Bombshells show up and attempt to kill her. They spout Tumblrisms like “safe space” and rant about the “patriarchy.” They condemn Joaquin and his friend for “empowering abusers” and the “culture of hate.”
>The comic’s writer, Nick Spencer, also helms the main Captain America series. He previously came under fire for turning Steve Rogers into a Nazi, with heavy criticism levied against him from the progressive left, as well apolitical readers who consider his heavy-handed politicization of the classic character unnecessary and unwanted.
>The Marvel writer is clearly lashing out at his critics, perhaps unaware that his comics make him sound exactly like the social justice trio he created to be satirical—especially with his narration. In many ways, the narrative promoted by the issue is more insidious than the over-the-top Bombshells, intended to make his politics more palatable to the reader.
>One must ask: what kind of comic book plot starts with a main character going to a campus to protest an alt-right speaker?

The conservative characters were used as fodder for Green Arrow's biting liberal criticisms. The book was more liberal than anything and it definitely wasn't balanced in any way.

Show me a panel where Green Arrow isn't schooling GL or anybody else on the evils of conservatism. Show me a panel where Ollie actually considers a conservative viewpoint to be positive.

I'd argue that conservatives are still impotent.

Yeah sure your party is in power for at least 4 years but you have to look ahead man.

Millennial are the largest generation since the baby boomers and they are overwhelmingly liberal and the boomers are dying.

American politics is a shifting landscape and something like this presidency, could just end up rallying liberals for generations. Looking at this objectively, trump doesn't have the best team and even if he did he is going to be one of the most heavily criticised presidents of all time. He'll be demonised more than bush and obama ever were. He would need to pull of a slam dunk to even be known as an "alright" president. And if he fucks up, generations will know the republican party as the party responsible.

Personally I've had a theory for a while that social conservatives vs Progressives is a dying platform anyway. We're going to see such a massive demographic shift that it's going to move to something more like "nationalists" vs "Globalists". I mean heck you see a lot of new wave young conservatives making that argument now.

On an unrelated note, does anyone else get the vibe that young conservatives, being the outlier among their given environments( College campuses and such) are taking the place of counter culture for the modern generation. Like it's a lot less stylish than other counter cultures but it seems to be on the outskirts of young society.
>>
>It's another "/pol/ gets triggered and then tries to pretend like their moral outrage isn't entirely vain and hipocritical, just like the SJW that they love to bitch about" thread
>>
>>88899605
I don't think conservatives are ever going to be considered counter culture, at least not until society at large is overwhelmingly liberal

counter culture is more about "fuck you dad" than "fuck you fellow kids"

You're assuming that other Republicans agree with him or like him in order to pass all his shit.

During the election the old republican leaders hated him, they wanted someone else. They simply had to put up with him. Something people miss is that Trump is almost third party with the way he polarizes everyone, yet he was just like a giant fuck you to the system which is why he was voted in

It might backfire, but going by his policies its hard to entirely call him a Republican in the sense that "he's' guy all three. He will run into some fights with Republicans.

Only way it'll get bad is if they realize they hate each other, but they can still sort of use each other.
>>
>>88899695
right, I kind of agree

But I always saw it as more of a "fuck you authority"

And if you're young you live in a world which is predominantly liberal. Your teachers, peers, friends, Professors, almost everyone you interact with.

I don't know, it's an interesting idea to examine. I don't really think there currently is a predominant counter culture. Even radical liberals are mostly tolerated by their peers.

I wonder if anyones written on anything examining Anti-Counter Culture. Like the boomers that never bought into free love and voted nixon in.
>>
the problem with comics like this, and politics, is that people are a lot less bullshit tolerant. whether it be the religious right or sensitive left, we are more fact oriented and with the internet we can look up or be exposed to wider coverage and views on events. people need to except that a compassionate apathy and logistical rationality are the rising trends on in the more central views and we don't give a shit about offending your god or feelings.

I dunno, I think that there's a sizable amount of people who are confused/disgusted with the state of the Dems at this point. While I'm sure that Election 2016 alone made some lifelong Democrats, there are also people who lost faith in the party due to its poor conduct and overconfidence, and if it continues to dodge any responsibility for its loss, or keeps fumbling their chances to turn things around, it could possibly lose those people for good. I mean, I could be projecting, but I've seen a few people say something along those lines, so I can't be the only one. Sure, they won't necessarily switch sides, but they're a loss all the same. And there will inevitably be people who flip-flop because of circumstances in their life.

And if we're talking about the future, things might be split 3 ways between nationalists, globalists (who'll be coded as "rich people who are 90% alike except for where they were born"), and some 3rd group of genuine cosmopolitans.

>On an unrelated note, does anyone else get the vibe that young conservatives, being the outlier among their given environments( College campuses and such) are taking the place of counter culture for the modern generation. Like it's a lot less stylish than other counter cultures but it seems to be on the outskirts of young society.

I don't think there CAN be a counter culture anymore - mainstream culture moves too fast now, anything outside of it gets co-opted or forced into a label before it has a chance to fester.

>I don't think there CAN be a counter culture anymore - mainstream culture moves too fast now, anything outside of it gets co-opted or forced into a label before it has a chance to fester.
The more I think about it, the more I think you may be right. and when you factor in the fact that we can be marketed to directly based on out beliefs, Ideas of personalised genuine culture become a bit harder to believe in.

>might be split 3 ways between nationalists, globalists (who'll be coded as "rich people who are 90% alike except for where they were born"), and some 3rd group of genuine cosmopolitans.
I do like your Idea of a 3rd group, Probably going to use that again at some point, and I'm half with you on the idea that globalists will just be coded as "rich people". I guess I just personally find it distasteful because I consider myself a globalist and I'd like to think it's because I have faith in the idea that unilateral trade and global interaction helps us all, improving economies and preventing war, and not because it personally benefits me. But then again it's easy to say a rising tide lifts all ships when you aren't the guy with a hole in his boat.

On the subject of the democratic party they'll be fine. they'll realign and move forward. There isn't really a viable alternative for progressives and I think they main thing is winning back the middle class.

Young Republicans actually had their own protests against the draft. They had petitions that had more names then the Young Hippies and Hippies. They just were... well boring. People who just wanted what there parents wanted.

Conservatives tend to be more internal when dealing with issues. They're less likely to lash out unless the issue matters to them a lot. Like I live pretty close to a Catholic girls school and they hired a lesbian because she was qualified and didn't cause a fuss. The only problem came when she wanted to get in vitro fertilization on the schools insurence plan. Catholics are weird when it comes to babies, but the argument was that the kid wasn't conceived through two adults, but rather an entire lab and company. The school said that they wouldn't pay for it and then the teacher sued. Like 90% of the parents didn't give a shit until she sued

Although Catholics are a bad example as they are only conservative because of abortion and Democratic politicians being pretty anti-religion rather than just pro-gay.

I don't care if the Bombshells are supposed to be villains and making fun of Tumblr, Nick Spencer sucks complete ass at political commentary no matter what belief he ends up trying to lampoon. All his parodies make even the worst political cartoonist look subtle in comparison and his "satire" amounts to exaggerated caricatures that do nothing but spout buzzwords and act crazy. He did it with the Serpent Society, he did it with Red Skull, and now he's doing it with this group. It's all just lazy writing.

>>88904168
Anything that sets up a current political issue as being some strawman parody for your characters to shit on is probably going to be written really poorly.

Electoral college was the compromise the colonies came up with to form their federated nation. Without it, the smaller colonies, such as Massachussettes, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and New Jersey (to name a few) wouldn't join. They didn't want the most populated colony of the time, Virginia, being the colony that picked all the presidents and vice presidents, as it had so much more people living in it.

Learn some history. It is helpful in understanding why some things are a certain way. The US has had over 2 centuries to change that compromise, but it hasn't bothered to do so, showing changing it isn't actually important to the nation.

I said it existed for a reason, and that Americans haven't bothered to replace it. Which means that Americans don't really think its either broken or worth the bother of replacing. And that includes Democrats. Remember, Al Gore barely lost in 2000 as well, and Democrats screamed about the electoral college then. But their leadership told them to shut the hell up because the Democrats had been tilting the electoral college in their favor for the past 50 years. It will be the same thing again--- Democrats will get over their little temper tantrum, and in just a couple of more 4 year cycles, there will never ever be a Republican elected again, because the electoral college will be so tilted towards Democrats by then. Republicans will cry and scream to change it, but the Dems will do everything they can to block it and downplay it. After all, its just the will of the people, and it works better that way, they will say.

The Dems lost this election because Hillary Clinton was the most hated Democrat politician not behind bars. If the Dems (the DNC, the Clinton machine) had let Bernie Sanders win their primary, we'd probably be talking about president-elect Bernie and what that might mean for the nation. But the Clintons were just bound and determined to not get shoved aside again. Hillary is done and won't ever run again. She doesn't have the health for it. In fact, it was her poor health that kept her from running around like a jack rabbit campaigning everywhere they needed.

>I'll portray the far left in an unflattering manner so that my chosen message is easily able to defeat them and come out looking better by comparison

It's not very hard.

It sounds more like they went after him because he was a Trump supporter than because of his race, and while that's completely inappropriate I can see why they'd be cautious to label it a hate-crime if the prime motive wasn't skin-colour or sexuality or whatever.

Hope they throw the book at them though, how stupid and pathetic do you have to be to stream your torture-videos on facebook?

Why on Earth would Spencer go all that trouble to woo some possible ambiguously right wing leaning readers with this stuff when the entire direction of the book so far could more or less been seen as the very anathema to these same people?

Occam's razor, the simpler answer is that Spencer's simply satirizing (in the blunt way superhero comics always do this sort of thing) just another topical political topic, i.e. the PC safe spaces shit that you see at college campuses. Just like he has done throughout the book, like with his BLM storyline and the illegal immigrants opening arc with the redneck supremacist snakeheads. The only difference is that this time the villains were extremists who came from the left. Big whoop.
>>
>>88905824

/pol/ is actually constantly right, but that doesn't mean their views are acceptable.

It's like, if someone went "Actually, we'd be better off if we killed all the Muslims." From a certain point of view, he is objectively correct - But the idea is horrific.

Or - "It was better to be a white guy when slavery was still a thing." Objectively, it WAS better to be white then, but it's also a fucking atrocity. Might as well say "Gee, it must've been great to be a Nazi during Hitler's rise."

So when do we get comics from a Trump-centric viewpoint?
>>
>>88906017
Its mind boggling.
>>
>>88906134

Probably never. Best you'll get is a comic that shits on the extremes of both and takes a middle/slightly leaning ground. In this case, "Whites have done horrible things in the past, but don't punish the children for the sins of the parents" or. "I like making fun of my own race, but that's as far as I'll go."

What in the fuck is a Trump-centric viewpoint comic? Where everything is amazing, and tremendous and you're good people until you happen to say something negative about the protagonist and then that person is the worst thing ever, a crooked person? Flip flopping on principles every five minutes because the only thing that is important is the perception of people liking you? Giving thumbs up in every panel? Short, 140 character speech bubbles with poor syntax, expressing opinions that don't really have any proper context and can be interpreted fifteen different ways?

Where America is great and worth fighting for, and the future of ordinary Americans must be protected? Where we're surrounded by evil head-chopping terrorists, and America needs mighty champions to protect it's freedom...And root out the cancerous recidivists chewing at its heart?

Sexual deviants, ungrateful black people, fat social justice 'crusaders'...They're all the enemy, and they all have to go. A Trump-centric comic would have black gangbangers harassing honest folk, paid shills and protestors doing everything they can to undermine the legitimacy of the state, and evildoers trying to stop us from allying with the European countries and our noble adversary, Russia.
>>
>>88906241
Chuck Dixon is a conservative, right? What does he think of Trump?
>>
>>88906243

In Trump's America, Chris Kyle is Captain America. The Americops are heroes, and one of them takes off his helmet to reveal that she's actually a smokin' hot girl who becomes the love interest. Protestors are shown to be savage animals, and are depicted as looting and pilla - Wait, that's real life.

A comic with a Trump-centric viewpoint would have Captain America attending the rally as a bodyguard, then beating the shit out of the Bombshells who turn out to be suicide bombers. The audience would also be flinging beer cans and projectiles at them, and it would end with a resounding cheer of USA USA USA as the Americops nightsticked them into unconsciousness.

It's not that difficult. Captain America is a white veteran, like James Newman in The Chosen mini-series. He's back from Afghanistan, recovering from PTSD, and is quite new to the job. He also takes a course in University.

Monologue - "My grandfather always told me about the Good War, the one that brought us together as a country. But Afghanistan was never like that: Every day, I dreamed of home. But then I came back, and I found that the war had followed me home."

"We're more divided than ever, and there are those who've made it their life's work to divide us even more." (panel of right-wing speaker) "But there are some who have the courage to call them out, to say what we're all thinking. Since when did speaking the truth become a crime?"

Captain America roams backstage. One of the off-duty Americops is a former war buddy from Afghanistan. "Yeah, I lost my arm...But the Senator paid for this cyborg prosthesis. He's a good man, that one - A real American. Adjusting's been hard, but - Y'know - with our new President...It feels like we've turned a corner, yeah? That things are beginning to look up."

Cap: "You know, I think so to-"

Explosion, and the introduction of the Bombshells.

Buddy: "The hell was that?"

Panel showing that some people have been seriously injured/killed in the blast. The right-wing speaker stands at her podium as one of the Bombshells (A blue-haired SJW. One is black, and the other is a Muslim man) approaches her with a drawn knife. "If you're not with us, sister, you're a tool of the patriarchy."

The rejoinder is - "Listen to yourself! You're insane!"

Buddy: "She's going to-"

Cap: "No. I'll handle this."

Captain America pulls his jacket open, Superman-style. Cut to him tackling the would-be attacker away from the speaker. He's stabbed in the shoulder.

Narration: "Crazy - hopped up on something - they don't care who they hurt-"

Americop: "Get the people out, now!"

(Panels of people fleeing. One or two are maimed and covered in blood, direct homage to Islamic fundamentalist attacks.)

Captain America: "And just like that - I'm at war again."

Brief, savage fight. Social justice rhetoric is taken exactly from the comic. Cap - "Insane, ranting nonsense - A distraction - Have to finish this quickly-"

Cap throws his shield, smacks his opponent in the face. The Muslim rips open his costume to reveal a suicide vest. Cap runs towards him, intent on tackling him to the ground and covering him with body.

Gunshots run out, and the Bombshell is shot dead from behind. One of the students stands behind him, with a smoking gun. For realism, it could be a white man - Alternatively, it could be a pretty white woman.

Student: "Had to do it-"

Cap: "It's all right, son. It's all right. You did what you had to do."

Aftermath - Surviving Bombshells being lead off in handcuffs. Shouting crude sexual obscenities, slogans. Captain America is being bandaged by an Americop.

Americop: "Listen to those idiots. You think they actually believe that trash?"

Captain America: "If they do, we're in a lot of trouble."

(Narration: "I've seen that look before. A fanatic, ready to give his life for Allah.")

Speaker: "All that hatred - Sometimes, it's hard to keep going. Sometimes, I wonder if it's already too late."

Cap: "Too late?"

Speaker: "For us. For this country. Sometimes I wonder..."

Cap: "Don't give up. Keep speaking the truth. As my buddy said..."

Trump, being sworn in. It's a YUGE page."

Cap: "He knows a guy who can turn things around."

You know, I've always found it weird how the right wingers think big government is the anti-christ, but then in the same breath they shit their pants if somebody has the audacity to criticize the government for doing something, especially military related. Or if they see somebody not standing up when the national anthem is played. A bit similarly they think government should have the right to control their lives, but then go on to say government has 100% the right to dictate what a woman can do or not do with their bodies when it comes to abortion (namely to ban or restrict it as much as possible), same thing with gay marriage.

>The cabinet is chosen for it's loyalty. Not it's ability or personal beliefs.

>>
>>88906642

It's actually very simple. The government isn't perfect, but it's the home team. As long as you pay your dues, it should treat you well.

Also, to a right-winger, the government's there to enforce the law. A right-winger does not consider abortion and homosexuality to be lifestyle choices, he considers them to be crimes. There's no disconnect.

I want the government to stop people from mugging me, but I want to be able to watch pornography at home. Is the government interfering with people's lifestyle choices by stopping me from being mugged?
