I create a storyline in my head involving various universes mashed together, involving a self insert of sorts. I have 3 storylines in total so far, but currently I'm on the Sci Fi storyline. I run about 4 miles 3 times a week, and when I make audio playlists of various movies and music, it immerses me while I'm exercising.

My OC was a dog. Based off of the real life pupper I owned(a wiener dog). I'm not sure if it counts as fanfiction, but I started a sprite comic where I interacted with the sonic characters. A lot of GL fanfiction. It was only a personal project, though.

Thankfully I lost it wall when I had to restore my hard drive.

Besides tiny stories form my youth I never published anywhere, I did one Yu-Gi-Oh/Spongebob crossover when I was ten that I managed to get ten chapters into before I was bored. Had to make up a bunch of cards because I couldn't find a list of anything besides what I owned and the anime.

I was writing VelmaxScooby Doo smut but that's about.

Recently I tried to write some original Futurama fanfiction because I miss it so much, but I hit writer's block eventually.

I keep on meaning to write some smut for my favorite ships, but I really ever fanfiction in a long time (I mean I guess you could consider playing with your toys as a kid a narrated fanfic.) I did use to read 10,000 words of horse show fanfiction a day, and the message board I spent most of my time in that community on housed many of it's B-Tier authors from the season 1-3 era, so I proofreaded a lot of their stuff.

It started when a close friend of mine tricked me into creating Sonic OC and writing fanfiction about him, while also asking to implement his own OC into story . It seemed to be a fun idea at a time. I didn't know about fanfiction before that, and I had yet to discover a whole scale of autism that is a Sonic fandom, because it wasn't long ago since I aquired stable internet connection.
As I remember, result wasn't particularly cringeworthy, some people really liked it, and I enjoyed the process of writing, so I also wrote a KoF fanfic and TES one after that.
I'm pretty ashamed to acknowledge this, but making fanfics got me into writing. I hope to publish a novel in near future. Assuming I will be able to finish it.

Yeah, it's the third part of a trilogy. The first two pieces are a lot shorter since I do prefer stories that wrap up in a timely fashion, and this third one is more of an adventure serial.

It's coming to an end though, I've started on the last arc. I'm a bit hesitant to continue though because I promise myself this would be the last story I ever write and I like having some manner of creative output.

So I'd put everything I have into this one story. 99% of fanfiction is blueballs, unfinished work which build up expectations but leave no payoff, I hate it so much. The promise I made forces me to incorporate any good ideas I get under one banner instead of constantly starting then dropping new projects.

Kind of related, I was thinking of writing one based on a character in Kung Fu Panda 2 but the character in the films was small enough that I just adapted the concept into an original idea. I still feel a bit bad about the fact that the idea did technically stem from that film but I think it is far enough removed that it isn't even close to plagiarizing at this point. Pick a relatively current fandom and include a popular ship.

Sadly, a lot of the reason why people read fanfiction is that they're struck with shipping feels and are thirsting for content where their pairing of choice ends up together, or at least pines for each other. So even if you want to write an ambitious fanfic where the main focus is on something else than romance, include a popular-ish ship that you can tag the fic with to indicate there'll be some attraction or romance between them eventually, to lure in readers to get hooked to your prose so they might recommend it onwards.

Trying to get people to read a neutral fic which doesn't really focus on any pairings is very difficult. You'll need to include at least one romance subplot, even if it gets very little attention.

Thought about writing but haven't due to being slightly self-conscious, preferring to think I'm actually a good writer, and a bit lazy, never actually feeling like getting around to doing it. Mostly the first one, though, since I have several ideas.

Keep on writing. Read both fiction and nonfiction. Read the best fanfictions for your fandom (google "[your fandom] best fanfiction", or look for Fanfic recs on tv tropes), and learn what you like.

But keep on writing. Start with short stories. Do not try to do a big epic, unless you're used to writing multi-chapter fics. Focus on 1-5 chapter stories.

And whatever you do, keep on writing. You'll be crap at first, because everyone is (i'm probably still crap). But you'll get better with practice. Good luck!
