The reason garnet was acting like that was because she came to a junction in time where every outcome was the same with varying degrees of shit going down
She was panicking, remember that she's part ruby, because her sapphire part couldn't foresee a way out of it completely. So they stumbled around to achieve the "best" end result.

She could have told Steven the truth- which would make him want to go more
She could have not said anything- steven would have used the warp pad and gone alone probably to get caught
She could Have gone with him- Would have been found like she said and probably taken somewhere worse than the human zoo
She could have stopped him physically- which would have hurt him and made him want to go even more, probably alone again
She could have done what she did (stutter around) - which probably gave the mildly "best result" with only greg getting captured compared to the whole team or steven alone

no other scenario would wind up with him in a perfect position to go to the location he wanted, not get captured himself, not get any essential team member captured (or worse), give a reason (and ability) to go after a diamond, see the zoo while safely having his dad in with him on the inside for support and a crew on the outside for the escape, see the diamonds interact, and escape while helping the amethyst crew

Garnet is afraid of Blue Diamond - HER DIAMOND - beyond the point of rational judgement.

She's an abomination and a fugitive and was sentenced to be shattered on the spot last they saw of her. Rose Quartz is the only solace and refuge she's ever known from this and it is through Rose that Garnet found the strength to challenge Homeworld and defend Earth as a Crystal Gem.
But Rose Quartz is dead. Steven is all that's left of her and despite the fact that the outcome is inevitable, Garnet is desperately trying to keep Steven out of that same Gem War they've been fighting for thousands of years.

To be fair, he was rushing to reach the zoo, then they actually got to the zoo, and then they had to escape. There was no opportunity to pester the gems further and he certainly wasn't going to approach BD. I think the real point is that Steven is now genuinely pissed at the lack of answers, knows he's not getting it from them, and is actively seeking other sources. First the book, then Greg. I think he'll end up getting something solid from Lapis or Rose's room.

Lapis probably never saw the shattering, but she was there to terraform Pink's colony. I'd be surprised if she never got to stand near if not speak with her. She could at least help him get a better idea of what Pink was actually like as a person.

Good grief, is almost as if the whole point of the show was too hard for you guys to understand.

Steven is a spoiled, kind and overprotected kid. The gems are his adoptive mothers -and while they try, they're not perfect at that.

The whole show is about Steven growing up and having to face the burden his mother put on him, relationships, trusting others, etc. It's only natural that we get little outbursts of him rebelling against the gems and fucking everything up (poofing Pearl, getting found by Peridot, being caught by Jasper, going to Watermelon Island, throwing the rubies into outer space etc.)

Stuff usually ends up OK since him and the gems are lucky and crafty enough to get out of sticky situations, but he has a history of fucking stuff, and the gems still don't trust him enough to explain certain stuff to him (even he thinks they'll never fully trust him since they blame him for his mom's death.)

So yeah, it's only natural that there is a weird lack of communication between the gems and Steven.

I fucking love her. Her design is very beautiful and serene but somehow a bit alienating, and her voice is a perfect fit. Very quiet and whispery, with a slight Irish accent coming through making her sound decidedly different from the rest. The singing was actually quite excellent. Maybe you were turned off because a lot of Sugars songs are more like poetry and they don't rhyme consistently like a sing-a-long. The song had a lot going on too. I was unsure about it at first but the more I listen the more I like it.
