IMO, the appeal of Batman and Selina is that Selina shows him humanity and appeals to the Bruce Wayne, not the Batman. It's not some "we only understand each other because we're both crazy animal people" superhero thing- at least it never was, to me.

I think we look at it from completely different angles.

Batman is like a compulsive thing for Bruce. He HAS to do it. He doesn't live for himself, he's tormenting himself every night by giving into the need to be Batman, isolating himself further and further from other people by fueling his obsession.

Selina is like "hey, stop living exclusively for other people and live for yourself for a few minutes. It'll be fun." She forces him to be a person for a few minutes as opposed to the unflinching demigod that Batman serves as.

Look at Talia, in comparison. She doesn't give a shit about Bruce, she doesn't give a shit about the human. She wants Batman to be the crazy fascist murderman at all times and give up being Bruce altogether.
