"Its too violent and/or those characters are dressed too skimpy."

Sincerely, Moms from the 80s and 90s.
>>
I remember the girls in my class not being able to watch Pokémon because it was violent.

I was losing my MIND seeing Laura for the first time around then

Glad my mom didn't care what was on the TV
>>
I remember my mother not letting me watch king of the hill as quite a young child. To this day I don't know why.

My mom was chill, but I remember one time when I was a kid. I loved movies and and my older cousins were watching SCREAM 2 on TV. When Timothy Olyphant's character claims he'll blame the movies for all the people he's killed, my aunt turns to me and says I could end up like him if I kept watching so many movies.

My mother never let me watch Ramma 1/2 and when I was younger my sister told my mother that Pokemon was too violent so she could change the channel and watch Sailor Moon, I took revenge on her by using the "It a woman turning into a man" for going to another movie instead of watching Mulan... it was not worth it.
>>
I grew up with four older brothers, my parents just didn't give a fuck any more when I was born. Dinner in front of the TV was pretty common and I was a sneaky little shit so I easily managed to do shit like watch all the porn stuff after midnight. One of my brothers also hid porn mags in his room, which were damned easy to find every time I scavenged his room for snack containers. (Guy always took entire chips bags and stuff to his room.) Cartoons too violent or sexual? Nah, my brothers already pulled so much shit that my mother just wasn't phased by anything I did or saw.

Hell, we used to watch sitcoms like Married With Children and Roseanne all the time so I'm pretty sure I've seen it all when I was 12.
>>
>>88860076

My niece couldn't watch Pokémon because her mom was super religious or something. But my mom would let her watch Pokémon when she was at our house anyway.

Anybody else have parents who didn't let their kids watch Pokémon for religious reasons? If only parents did actual research on shows or watched it with their kids.
>>
>>88860615
Wow, it was the exact opposite in our house.

To be honest I was kinda amazed they didn't raise a stink about EEnE for being "too ugly" or for having "bad role models". The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy was another show we slipped past their radar simply by calling it "Billy & Mandy".

But they were pretty strict about everything else, especially when I was younger... I distinctly remember not being allowed to watch MMPR when it was new, until ironically it was AFTER Lord Zedd was introduced that they decided I was "old enough", so seeing him for the first time is one of my formative memories. I WASN'T allowed to watch Big Bad Beetleborgs however, because the Hillhurst monsters and the fact that the Magnavores lived in a cemetery were too "demonic", but that just made me more determined to watch it and gave it an edge it didn't actually have.

I also distinctly remember my mom happening on Beast Wars for all of 5 seconds while channel surfing and summarily banning it. That was another rule I didn't really follow.

Also, we were super-into the Pokemon anime like every other kids in America when our mom stumbled upon a religious-right crazy fucknuts website preaching about how it was a Satanic Jap plot to brainwash our precious gaijin children. That was the worst, but it also sucked cuz they applied that shit to all -mon type anime. And Digimon was the biggest loss there because it was the one that was actually good, and you COULD technically argue it's pure sci-fi, but then like every other Big Bad was clearly designed to be Satanic, right down to invoking the Mark of the Beast. Or the whole Bakemon church episode. So basically, we'd just watch the banned shows we really wanted to with one kid on channel duty and another kid on lookout, and knowing we weren't supposed to watch them just made them that much cooler.
>>
my parents let me watch whatever cartoon i wanted. started south park with my dad when i was 8. my grandparents didnt though. i rented spawn (HBO animated series) one time and my grandma turned it off immediately.
>>

Hi Mr. Icke. Big fan, btw.
>>
Old-fagging here but I remember my parents banned me from watching The Simpsons simply cause Bart said the words "Hell" or "Damn."
>>
As a 3, 4, 5 year old I couldn't watch Smurfs or Care Bears because they were "SATANIC!" bu using magic and subverting Christ.

My mom chilled out by the time I was in my late teens/early 20s and totally feels bad about how crazy heavy religious she got during that period of her life
>>
>>88862018
My best friend's parents literally burned all his Pokemon stuff.

My parents were extremely religious but they let me watch pretty much any kids show. They were strict about nothing with cussing or nudity but that basically applied to movies obviously. When I was really little there were some shows my mom wouldn't let me watch when I was really little because she thought they would give me nightmares and she was probably right. It was never because they were 'satanic' though.
>>
>>88862315
That didn't really bother mine but that time Homer said "bastard!" was a bit much for them.

>all these christfag parents
I didn't realize this was so common. Sometimes I forget how much of traffic here is American.
>>
>>88862123
Same. When I was 8 I had a friend sleep over and we watched the South Park episode where Jimmy fucks a hooker.
>>
Eh, my parents didn't let me watch the Simpsons, but it was for a good reason
Bart was an intolerable little cunt that should have died a long time ago.
They also didn't want me watching Animaniacs (they also had good reasons) If I had been 10 or 12 when it came out they might have been okay with it.
>>
>>88862646
Weirdly, I remember Animaniacs & especially Pinky & The Brain being the only cartoons my mom actually liked watching with me as a kid. I guess cuz they were the last big Baby Boomer nostalgia-driven cartoons. I wouldn't have gotten half the references without her.

Feels awkward, man.
>>
>>88859985
Those are things Peg would never say.
>>
>>88862646
The funny thing about Bart is that he actually got worse as the years went on instead of being toned down. He was remorseful for his actions when it had bad consequences for other people and actually had a shred of respectability for Homer in the early seasons. Just like everybody else the show made their worst traits magnified as the years went on so I can see parents not wanting their kids exposed to 'golden years' Bart.
>>
>>88859985
As a kid who grew up in the late 80's I can tell you this is false. Mom's generally didn't care what we watched. My dad openly let us watch shit like Robocop and Nightmare on Elmstreet. Kids weren't as sheltered as today's kids.

>Everything now just seems very "safe" in terms of both action not being particularly violent and refusal to recognise the existence of the female figure or breasts any bigger than a B-cup.

Parents have cottoned onto the big tits thing, so instead the new thing is to give every woman a massive ass because normies- especially women and moms- haven't figured out how sexual it is yet. For instance, when I watched the pre-moana short in a theater filled with 18+ college students, I overheard a girl complaining that the woman was ugly and her brave boyfriend trying to explain the concept of 'thicc' to her.

His mom was a chaperone and caught him, then went on a big rant in front of all the kids and parents talking about how they were pocket monsters and that monsters were evil and tools of the devil.

I remember in the car home my dad call her a fucking wacko. We were Christian, but my parents still bought me Pokémon tapes and books and even got me Pokémon gold with the golden pichu and pikachu Gbc. Hell I was even younger watching power rangers. While it's not exactly the most explicit show ever, it did feature some adult themes that could be seen as unsuitable for children. Some. Occasionally. Definitely not frequently.

It was for the most part just barely even PG rated, so I get the confusion. Hell, it's downright wholesome by today's standards.

we need some kinda champion for huge tits and also making it a SFW cartoon. but that will be impossible since women would hate it even if it was tackling huge tits problems because huge tits are sexy and not a pain or anything.

EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE WOMEN OUT THERE WITH TITS LARGER THAN YOUR HEAD AND STILL RELATIVELY THIN

My mom actually did shit like that. My personal favorite was her banning Scooby-Doo from my watch list for being "full of demons and evil spirits". Never mind she still let me watch Robotech, which only featured genocide and alien race-mixing.

I don't miss her.

My parents never gave a shit about what I watched as long as it wasn't porn or people showing their genitals.

My mother said I watched reruns of a show called Werewolf when I was 2 and that she let me because I would cry if she changed it.

The only one that cared was my brother, he never let me played his Mortal Kombat game because it was too violent and my mother didn't mind when I did, also my father was going to take me to see South Park Bigger, Longer, and Uncut to the theatre when it came out but my brother said it wasn't for kids and that there was a picture of a dick in there and I didn't go.

Well women have different standards of beauty for each other just like men do and the ones who don't want to fuck other women usually go with what is on fashion magazines which is the creepy androgynous skeleton model look.

Women don't get thicc usually because the ass makes them think the other woman is fat or they are self conscious about it when they have it.

My parents were very anti-censorship. They wanted to know what I was watching but didn't really put too many barriers on it. They were somewhat selective when I was young but by the time I was 13 or so they let me watch just about anything really. Even before that violence or nudity weren't as important as content and context. My mom thought it was especially ridiculous when parents were more concerned about nudity than violence.

It's not really mothers who push that shit. I'm sure that a few of the SJW types have kids, but by and large moms still lean conservative. They'll tolerate more shit because culture is leaning that way so the majority isn't going to kick their son out if they find out he's gay, but most mothers aren't going to be jumping full onto the trans acceptance train and attending rallies and going on tumblr and shit.

It got a lot of shit when it aired. Shit like No Ma'am was a direct response to feminists and moral guardians that tried to get the show canceled. PC culture was just as strong in the 90's as it is now. It was just focused on some different things. The only difference was that back then a few networks had the balls to stand up to them instead of bending over backwards in the hopes of getting some progressive brownie points. Hell Married with Children only got popular because some dipshit housewife went on a moral crusade against them. They ended up sending her a fruit basket every year to thank her for it.

My mom was usually pretty okay about things like this. But one night she came into my room, saw I was watching Space Ghost, freaked out about them mentioning "sex" repeatedly in one of their little back-and-forths, and wrote an angry email to Cartoon Network about it.

This was in the years right before the start of Adult Swim, so I was probably like 12 at the time.
>>
My parents were normal for a while but spent about two years being crazy fundamentalist christians, until the churchfolk eventually turned on them like they did to someone new each month. In 1992 no less...

I was banned from watching anything that had any element of magic in it or a magical character. This meant no Aladdin because it was clearly about someone selling their soul to satan for wishes. And just about all Disney actually because magic always means satanism and teaching witchcraft.

Power Rangers was not allowed because the villain was a witch and apparently any instance of a witch on a show means it teaches the viewer witchcraft. Even the villain.

Animaniacs were not allowed because they were demons that torment humans.

X-Men was not allowed because they all sold their souls to the devil for powers.

All things Looney Tunes were perfectly fine. They had no issues with every Nicktoon as well, including Ren and Stimpy, but they never really watched that anyway.

For awhile, the religious right was the dominant political group in the USA. When you've got a dominant group on the far end of the political spectrum with all the power, people who already lean that direction may start being more extreme to match. For example, right now, with the left wing in vogue and becoming more radical, a lot of people who were just moderate leftists before are now becoming full-on, "fuck the white man, trump is satan personified and the sign of the apocalypse, stop mansplaining your manspreading you cisprivileged pig" nutjobs, just to match how all the other leftists seem to be getting. Once the right takes power again, a lot of those people will probably calm down and pass their insanity off as just a phase, while all the formerly moderate right wingers start screaming for gay blood to paint the streets red to end the satanist cabals abducting their children, or something. And then the left will come back and the right wingers will pass off their god fearing blood orgies as just a phase, and on and on forever more.

Kind of yea, Pat Robertson became incredibly popular by actually pointing out where Satan was in media and politics in the very early 90's. Managed to get a few shows off the air, Halloween cancelled in some small towns, and ;legitimately got America afraid of Satan worshiping pagan cults for a while.

Then people got sick of it all and returned to their lives by the mid 90's.

>left is more popular, it's so fucking extreme

meanwhile, nativists and isolationists rise up in every western country often referred to as populist movements, and the US hasn't had a liberal in office since FDR (if you ignore their rhetoric and only view their actions)

hell Nixon was twice the liberal Obama was. and Clinton was twice the capitalist crony Bush could EVER hope to be. He de-regulated wallstreet more than any (R) would have dared, and was at least equally responsible for the '08 depression, and every president we've had since FDR has attempted to push socialized universal healthcare past corporate interests, so be for you fall back on that as "omfg literally communist" go fuck yourself.

holy shit man, a bunch of loud nuts on the internet are no fucking indication of the actions of elected governments around the world.
>>
>>88872807
And yet that bunch of loud nuts made Clinton dedicate a page of her official site to talk about a cartoon frog from a diaperfur comic posted on /b/ over ten years ago.

Plus, presidents are powerless figureheads to big corp and big bank pulling the strings anyway. The real danger of Clinton was his militant fanclub ready to justify whatever crazy action she had planned because she's strong, independent Democrat womyn who don't need no Bill. The liberal elites, both American and foreign, would've received the moral equivalent of a B12 shot.

There are barely any actual leftists in the US. Almost everyone is either moderate, conservative, or a far right nutcase. The US political landscape leans way more to the right than most other western countries and pretty much always has.
>>
>>88873057

Americans don't know the difference between leftists and liberals, and think that the democrats are both.
>>
>>88873057
That's true in the sense that washington is basically all right wingers parading around as if there's a difference between them, so yes, in terms of who's in power, there is no left wing. But the general population does have a legitimate left wing. It may lean right overall, but you can't say that the people who are screaming "cis privilege, check your microaggressions, tear down the white man's institution and give it to fat crippled black dykes" are right wing or centrist, not by the standards of any country. Right now, places like california and the media are picking up that campaign even if it continues to gain no actual ground in washington, so the left wing is gaining popular attention and power, if not actual power.
