Jean had telepathically learned what the future had in store for her and Scott was curious and worried and upset that she was keeping secrets from him, plus they had both just learned that they end up married.
So when they sat down to eat Scott thought something passive aggressively critical about her and Jean telepathically overheard it, which Scott didn't like because she's been constantly told not to snoop around in people's minds.
It actually was a great way to recap the whole story in a completely natural way.
Bendis is pretty good at that tricky subtle stuff.

There's a really old comic from the era where teen newb hero Parker was trying to join the superhero teams, after the FF reject him he heads over to the X-Men and tries his luck there.
Original Jeanie read his mind and learned his secret identity right away way back then, with Pete wondering why he had bothered to wear a mask.
Decades later Marvel repeated the gag in the Ultimate books.
It's kinda dumb that they're demanding kid Jean follow this rule when it's pretty clear that no other telepath has ever even tried.
If you read your back issues you'll notice Xavier was always mansplaining things to every non-telepath he came across.
Nobody cared back then.
