>Last year, DC Comics launched their Rebirth initiative, which saw their superhero line double down to core titles – and double the number of issues published of each.
>My natural inclination was to presume this would lead to longer stories, given an increased schedule of episodes, a greater patience from the audience given the next chapter would be but two weeks away.
>Instead, it appears that the opposite has been true. When the chapters are more frequent, there has been less of a tolerance for longer storylines. After considerable research, DC editorial is looking to move to shorter storylines as a result.
>The longer extended storyline with a specified beginning and end used to be a rarity in superhero comics but it became more popular with the popularity of Authority, the Ultimate line, a greater readership for manga and the “decompressed” comic book. Subsequent collections in trade paperback became compulsory and five or six issues fitted that well.
>But for 2017? Look for more one-to-three issue storylines and subsequent collections cramming in more than just the one story….

This would be amazing

I still love long-form, but almost no one these days writes a six-issue story that deserves to be six issues, so here's hoping
BASED DC
Good, if in means shorter/cheaper trades.
In Didio we trust.

I honestly like the six issues format, but if we can get 4 issues arc I will honestly be happy
>>88839288
We don't deserve DC

>N-no but you see I don't do that
How pathetic can you get
just write the stories as long as they need to be
Aw man some of my favourite runs benefit from telling stories that 8+ issues, maybe more for runs like Johns green lantern,Azz Wonder Woman and Morrison batman

Not every writer can pull it off well. Abnett's stories are really gotten stale because of it and Flash's first arc was insanely long for no reason.
Just make it as long as it is needed to be that is it.
based, down with decompression
>>88840636
wow I thought you were kidding. That's sad
>>88840676
It's the art of writing shorter stories that nonetheless carry material and subplots and development from one to the other so it all adds up.
Based DC. How can Marvel even compete?
>>88841007
This, look at Priest. All of his Deathstroke so far is seemingly one/two parter but it all of it goes back to Rebirth one shot.

>DC editorial is looking to move to shorter storylines as a result.
Oh thank christ. You have no idea how I miss done in ones.
So many long form stories are just 2-3 issues of happenings and another 2-3 of filler where they don't resolve shit.
>>88839288
Hmm. Were they all 6 issue arcs?
I never really counted or noticed.
Someone please, for the love of Primus, send this to IDW.
>>88840636
Ray Dillon and Renae De Liz jump ship to Marvel when?
>>88839288
I like long story formats but I have noticed a shit ton of complaints from casuals about how Rebirth stories "take too long" so this would probably be good for them. I just trade wait anyway.
>>88842092
Who?
Great, now Rebirth will be even more shallow pandering
>>88842550
who is shorter arcs pandering to and how is it shallow?
>>88842550
>this retard
>>88842566
Don't respond to any post that uses the word pandering.

Nice.
>>88839288
Sounds good, decompression doesn't serve anyone really, fans want a good story thats not drawn out, long arcs don't sell any more issues so the company doesnt give a shit... more content in trades.... I see no problem with this
Hellboy and BPRD has been doing it for a couple years now, they're 1-4 issues per story and it works great, all beef, no filler.

Idiots with 3 or 4 kids get fired for talking shit about their employers.
>>88839288
thank fucking god. so many stories do not need to be six fucking issues long.
>>88840636
Holy shit you weren't joking.
The longer arcs are killing my interest in monthly series like Supergirl and Superwoman. I don't really mind it for the twice monthlies though.
>>88841007
THIS!!
I love that kind of stuff, it's the kind of writing that executed well adds lots of relecture value.
>>88840636
How often is it that comic book creators comment on Bleeding Cool articles?
>>88846302
Slott has been known to frequently respond to articles on there.
DC hasn't been terrible about this lately, a lot of books like Green Lanterns and Superman have had shorter arcs and one-shots punctuating longer arcs, but as an actual company edict set in stone this is absolutely fantastic news.
I can think of a lot of books that would be a lot better if they weren't so purposefully drawn out (Flash and Hal Jordan and the GLC immediately spring to mind.)
