The map is pointing to areas where Gem facilities were built, destroyed or not.

Whatever happened to Russia is probably really important.
Two current theories on it are that it's either
>where the Diamonds shot the corruption nuke at (which wouldn't explain a facility being found there)
>or where Pink Diamond was born, with her creation taking that whole chunk of the planet

The latter is a huge stretch, but there are some possible hints of it, like how PD only had Earth and the moon, and the fact that the spot is kinda close to the second largest diamond mine in the world which looks like a giant crater (obviously 1000x smaller than the one in Russia in SU)

Steven gets eaten immediately by a giant gem snake, bitten by a gem spider, stung by a gem scorpion and kicked by an emu

The sky arena is probably over Spain, as that's the only one of the three locations to be so close to mountains. The ziggurat is underwater, and the spire is in south america.
