The Imperials were infighting, and the Empire had lost much of it's power by Jakku.

Jakku was the first proper battle the Rebels actually fought against the Empire, in which they threw everything the New Republic had at the last fleet of the Empire.

The Battle of Scariff WAS hit-and-run, and with the exception of half the fleet escaping with their hearts in their throats, and the plans making it off-world, they still lost the battle itself.

>Rebels are meant to be the hit and run type. The The whole Jakku thing is absurd. Unless the Imperials were infighting.
They are hit and run types when they don't have the major resources to stage an actual attack. At Scarif and Endor they bring whatever they have to launch a more successful attack they couldn't do normally.

At Jakku they aren't even rebels anymore. They are already the New Republic. By then more than half the Empire had been brought down by the NR or Imperial infighting, making it a weak piece of shit fleet.

Are you saying Rogue One has a good space battle?

How absurd
>>
>>88835742
>making it a weak piece of shit fleet.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves. We have barely scratched the surface of that Battle, which is stupendously exciting, but it's already clear to me that the Battle of Jakku is supposed to be fucking huge. When they do tackle it, I expect it's going to be a very tense and dramatic battle for the characters involved, until the New Republic start to take control. I mean, that's the vibe I was getting from Lost Stars, and even the Jakku promotional game mode in Battlefront was called "Turning Point", in which the Empire has to hold back against the New Republic who have a newfound sense of hope of actually winning the war.

I hope that we get to see the Battle of Jakku in a movie though, or at least Rebels/Animated movie, because otherwise, well... It's just Aftermath3
>>
>>88835700

If we're lucky we'll see Jakku at the end of Rebels in half a decade or so. Until then, Aftermath: Empire's End is going to be the only pure focus the battle will get.

Nah. They don't do adaptations. Part of the LSG's job is finding the right form of media to tell a certain story. For this one, they chose comic book.

The Vader comic wouldn't work so well as a movie, or even a tv series, sadly.

If they wanted to more Live-Action Vader, they'de do a new story.

The borders of the Galactic Republic reached only so far. This is a problem described in Tarkin that's existed in every iteration of the Republic - the ignorance towards the malignment of the Outer Rim. It was only during the Clone Wars that the Republic expanded into the Outer Rim, where the Empire would only exploit it for resources and very narrow labor.

>Droids can just upload themselves to a new body or back up themselves.
Actually they can not. The basic personality matrix is hardcoded into the robots mainframe. It can be altered or wiped to factory settings, but not removed unless you plan to take the entire head or torso depending on the model.

The personality of a droid is due to system corruption and cannot simply be replicated, just like said corruption cannot transferred. If you take a copy of a droid personality matrix, all you get is the factory standard.

This is why droids can essentially die. They stop existing as individuals.

Music isn't good in either movie, some of the shots do not feel like starwars at all like imperials walking towards scientist felt more like Thin Red Line than starwars.

TFA shit the bed because it IS a saga film and it suffers because of JJ's stupidity. He failed to replicate Star Wars' type of camerawork and he stifled the fuck out of John Williams to a degree that should be considered a crime.

Not really, no. But they've taken Force Unleashed, Kotor and games about Katarn and created characters based on this canon. Like, for example, Kanan from Rebels starts off as young Kyle, gun-toting scoundrel, who turns out to be a Jedi. Now, however, he's been blinded by Maul (voiced by Starkiller actor) and now is a bit Rahm Kota-ish.

Corusant surviving the vong and a galaxy that has many many world killer weapons just rolling around, 50 civil wars and galactic threats in general, I can't think of a world that has more plot armor, not even earth.

Nope. It was the Hosnian System.

>>88837149
Because the prequels about the CLONE WARS was the first introduction to the franchise for many of them. And the clone aspect is really hammered right up people's asses non-stop throughout all three films. In the OT it's never once stated that the stormtroopers are no longer clones, so they obviously just assume that they are. And since all first six films had clones, OF COURSE TFA has clones, too. It'd be "fucked up if they suddenly retconned the clones away".

Just as the Hosnian System. Since no one apart from die hards who know what system Coruscant was in, it's quite reasonable for most others to believe it to have been Coruscant. Hux did say the weapon was ready to fire on the capital of the government that supports the Resistance - the Republic.

But at least you can always go to bed knowing Coruscant will still be there if you wake the next morning.

>If you're not a turbonerd and who's only watched the movies and TV shows, you wouldn't know what system Coruscant is in nor have any reason to think that it's not in the Hosnian system
But if they meant Coruscant, they would've said Coruscant. Since that line is so throw-away, many missed it, but still it was not said to be Coruscant.

And books since then have confirmed that the Hosnian System is not Coruscant. Not to mention the architecture style is different.

This is the point in the Hosnian Prime discussion where I bring out my pet theory: I think Abrams WANTED to destroy Coruscant. I think he wanted to do something shocking and also to further demonstrate his disdain for the prequels. It's like how he destroyed Vulcan in his Star Trek movies, but he gets to give the finger to the prequels, also.

So I think Hosnian Prime was SUPPOSED to be Coruscant, but Disney told Abrams he couldn't destroy Coruscant because they almost certainly have plans for Coruscant in a future movie/show/game.

So Abrams has to hastily rejigger his plans, and he needs a new city planet to blow up that's also the capital of the Republic. Hence "Hosnian Prime," which we've never heard of before and which only even comes into existence in the shitty tie-in novel.
>>
>>88837560
In which case, thank you Disney. Coruscant is one of the better things in prequels.
>>
>>88837559
No clue, I honestly didn't know when Backstroke was released.

Pyrrhic victories are only marginally victories. Whether you like it or not, canon is canon, and it's important to a very large amount of people that we maintain an official continuity.

It's like people who say "Fuck Rebels, TFU is the TRUE story of the Rebellion". What are those guys doing? Ignoring that it was Hera who got a cameo in RO, not Starkiller?

Anyone else apprehensive about Anakin and R2 going to Mustafar?

First of all it feels like a remote world that becomes wrapped up in the biggest event in galactic history. Having Anakin going there before his fall makes the galaxy feel small.

Second, it means Sidious is retarded for sending the Separist council there. If the Jedi already know it's been used by them, it'll make them easier to track down.

This is a weird one. The Rebels weren't even Rebels by the battle of Jakku. The New Republic was coming into its own politically but militarily they were fucking huge just from captured Imperial ships. I know Aftermath is a fucking mess, but at least we saw Mon Mothma worried about how large and powerful their fleets were well before the Battle of Jakku.

>>88838256
>Tactical loss achieved.
It's not like we know that the Executor managed to defeat or somehow stymie every single ship that hadn't jumped to hyperspace yet. They disrupted the escape long enough to destroy several ships and capture Raddus' vessel, but I sincerely doubt that they wiped out everything else. Especially when Vader was distracted by trying to stop the transmitted plans from escaping and failed.

There's some curious ironies here. The truth is the Rebellion feels its losses more than the Empire, not just in ships but personnel. And yet at the same time their losses are tempered with our foreknowledge that ultimately these sacrifices allow them to still win and defeat their far larger, powerful, resource-heavy enemy. Even in this battle the Empire's losses were likely more significant than the Rebellions (just comparing their lost materiel and personnel) even BEFORE the Death Star destroyed the surface installation. But of course the Rebellion does suffer increased hardships because what they lose ultimately has an inflated cost. Though again they still manage to defeat the Death Star making this totally worthwhile, and ultimately defeat the Empire.

Obi-Wan would cream his robes with all the certain points of view you could make of this, all depending on if we view it just as this battle or if we view it from the context of the larger war.

Doubtful. And it's not inevitable as of yet. It's very apparent that the only real shit that happened during his time on Tatooine was with Jabba's thugs and Krrsantan.

Kenobi's only real excitement beyond that might've been trolling Tusken Raiders or cheap floozies at Mos Eisley.

I can't take his newfound change of heart seriously, especially when the first thing he did on-screen was kick a stormtrooper off a ledge, set up a false-flag operation against a local minister and finally in season two blockaded an entire planet and starved the populace just to get the rebels out of hiding due to their altruistic nature.

So I've been playing KOTOR for the first time after hearing all the hubbub, and while it's not a bad game at all (even if it has aged horribly), am I the only one who finds it ironic how people gave TFA shit for being criminally derivative yet KOTOR is also the same? I mean, Taris is Alderaan (with upper Taris also being Coruscant), T3-M4 is R2, HK-47 is a murderous 3PO (and there are more 3PO-like protocol droids in the game too), Zaalbar is Chewbacca, Darth Malak is Darth Vader (bald cyborg Sith Lord), Vandar Tokare is Yoda, the Sith Empire is the Galactic Empire, the Star Forge is the Death Star (McGuffin artifacts the bad guys use), the Jedi get BTFO (not as badly as in before ANH but still). Hell, they've even got a sequence similar to the TIE Fighter attack on the Millennium Falcon as a gameplay feature.

Sheesh. I'm surprised they didn't give Calo Nord green Mandalorian armor, or at least a jetpack.

Those things are hilarious. I mean I assume they are somewhat for intimidation purposes if you see this bright red blade copter person coming at you, but tactically it leaves them quite vulnerable since they're relying on the repulsors in the blade and cannot deflect incoming shots.

I figure it was a new upgrade to aid in them blasting off again since the Jedi they were hunting were supposedly becoming more powerful. And it should be noted we haven't even seen a new one this season.

Good they got blown up in the movie
>>
>>88842443
>So then why are they hyping it up in the show if it's not going to happen?

Because they're probably setting up a double dose of failure for Maul and Ezra. Maul will probably die before he gets to Tatooine, and Ezra will never find Kenobi so he can destroy the Sith because Maul died with the knowledge to find Kenobi.

Dave's said many times that they're staying away from Tatooine. If they're working up a story that revovles around finding Kenobi, then surely it's going to end in both parties failing to find him, because Obi-wan had no involvement with the rebellion or powers beyond Tatooine. He was there and rotted for nearly 20 years. That's a fact.

SSD's already existed by that point. Tagge's flagship after Yavin was the SSD Annihilator. Later captured by pirates in Aftermath: Life Debt.

Depends how long they take to make, I suppose the Annihilator could have been post-Yavin but I doubt it. I wonder if we'll get an SSD in Rebels.

Because if it had been there we would have seen it there, but since it wasn't there, we didn't see it there. We also know Vader didn't chase down Tantive IV with it, so we doubly know it wasn't there, because had it been Vader would have been on it but instead he was on Devastator, right where he's supposed to be, because Executor wasn't there.

There's only one canon.

The Executor was completed sometime between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

The ship that shows up in Rogue One is Darth Vader's flagship from A New Hope, the Devastator.

While Kallus is zealous and arrogant I think the source of that is his pride, which was wounded even more by the Empire than by the Rebels. He's a loyal servant, practically a war hero already from the Lasat Genocide, and he is completely forgotten on the moon of Geonosis. I wouldn't be surprised if what Kallus wants isn't even the destruction of the Rebels but the glory of destroying the rebels without an interfering superior taking the credit.

Really, though, he shouldnt've been Fulcrum. Tua would've made an excellent Fulcrum, but there were no other civilian/weak-willed imperial characters in season 1 to sacrifice but her.

I can rationalize Kallus betraying the Empire, but I would be very pleased if he's a triple-agent
>>
>>88844301
He asked "according to what canon" this is a question that doesn't make sense, since there's only one answer.

I'm simply correcting his incorrect name use. It is the Devastator that shows up at the battle of Scarif, not the Executor.

>The Executor was completed sometime between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
It was completed before ESB. It showed up in the Vader comics. Curiously the Annihilator which showed up earlier is an Executor-Class, meaning they later made an Executor-Class that was actually named the Executor. Maybe it was getting a retrofitting including by Cylo's weird eye-gal.
>>
>>88844324

>>

The Vader comics aren't after Hoth?
I haven't read them in a while.

Either way, with the info we have it seems the Executor was not operation before the Vader comic. It may be that the pattern for the dreadnaughts started with the Executor, but the systems that they wanted weren't operational yet. Tagge's ship may have been a stripped down version of it, or the Executor was simply put back to dock for retrofitting as you say.
>>
>>88844402
Hence saying the Executor could have clearly been there but just was off camera. Also Lando, the Wookiee Jam Crew, Vos, Sy Snootles, Qui-Gon's ghost, everyone on Alderaan enjoying a nice beach vacation and leaving Bail wondering where the fuck everyone is right up until he's the only one to die with the planet, and also the shell of the Death Star II were all already there, just on the other side of the planet. All having a party and after hours an orgy.
>>
>>88844402
I'm just correcting your mistake, as was the other anon.

>>88844450

You can see pretty clearly in Rogue One that the reshoots and Disney meddling affected Scarif the least and Jedha the most.

Meanwhile, TFA is the way it is because everything up until leaving Jakku was already outlined by Michael Arndt and George Lucas working together pre-sale. Details were changed by Abrams and Kasdan, but they had a base to work from and didn't just have to make shit out of whole cloth.

>>
>>88845168

Destroying it in the same movie is fine. Destroying it in the same half of the movie that the audience even finds out it's a thing is fucking awful.

The Death Star worked because it was central to the plot from the get-go. It's mentioned in the crawl and countless times thereafter. The movie makes a huge point of how important the Death Star is.

The Death Star II worked because, again, it was established from the very outset, so we had some idea where things were going to go after Jabba was dealt with.

The Force Awakens opens with the search for Luke Skywalker. The whole movie is focused on the search for Luke, right up until Starkiller Base fires. At this point, the search for Luke hasn't been resolved. It just gets put on hold for almost the whole rest of the movie.

Arndt has said that when he and Lucas were working on the idea of doing this movie pre-sale, they kept running into a problem after getting of Jakku: a short time later, Rey would find Luke, and then Luke would just sort of take over the whole story. They kept trying different ideas and couldn't easily find a way to keep him from overshadowing everything.

So Abrams and Kasdan, now running the show, decided to just crash the whole party with another Death Star, to stall out the movie so finding Luke could come at the very end and the "Luke takes over the movie" problem could be fobbed off on the next guy.

They were using it to re-arrange star systems, and new republic tried to shoot it at vong, except they're idiots and smoked one of their own fleets.

We're talking babylon 5 first ones type of technology difference where they're re-arranging galactic phenomenon to suit their purposes.

I naturally assumed the person writing it liked the idea that this intelligent race that was helping younger races sensed the threat of celestials and instead of running or trying to fight, dismantled advanced parts of their technology like being only race to build portals that connected worlds since they hadn't figured out hyperdrive yet.

They figured if they weren't perceived as a threat they would be left alone.
