Naboo N-1 is like a sleek 1940s cruiser car, the T-65 X-wing is an '83 Honda. The performance increased, but the "beautiful crafstmanship" was replaced with utilitarian design.

imperial ships were based on geometric shapes to make them look unnatural and therefore hostile. it does not resemble anything made on earth

the XYA were made to resemble conventional fighters in order to give them a sense of familiarity and comfort, the X-wing was explicitly based of the spitfire, the Y-wing doesnt have an inspiration listed but is assumed to be the P-38, the A-wing is not based on anything, but the central bubble cockpit, rear engines, and the A-shape giving the appearance of "wings" grounds it in reality

the TIE=Zero is actually from EU, where they are described as fragile, but with good turning

the ships in general are mixture of WW2 fighter planes and hot rods, with a touch of 70s era jets (the A-10 did not exist)

the X-wing is a space superiority fighter, like an F-22 or F-15, and possibly the P-51 or F-86 designed to shoot other fighters

the Y-wing is a strike fighter, it can dogfight just long enough to clear a path to bomb something
the F/A-15 or the P-38 fit this role

the A-wing is an interceptor, it is supposed to engage bombers before they drop their payload, and the mig-21 Fishbed comes to mind

I like your comparisons, though ROTJ's space battle is funny since the fighters pretty much go nuts. A-wings and X-wings taking out bombing targets with lasers and a Y-wing popping two Interceptors in the blink of an eye. Star Wars has the best of both worlds I guess?

I say it's Empire, but the one I've rewatched the most in the sage is easily RoTS - by lightyears. I find RoTS delightful every single time, even the "flaws". If I had to pick a star wars movie to watch right now it would be Sith.

That edit had me not buy the blu-rays. Prior to that, I had liked or was indifferent to every change in the DVDs. Most of them I thought were better, like the establishing shots of Tattooine, Bespin, etc, making them seem more full of life. The ending song change at RotJ is the single greatest change they made.

I finally said fuck it though and bought the Blu-rays for when I watch with friends and kept an edited version of RotJ on my hard drive for when I have to be a fucking neckbeard and watch a super specific version of RotJ.

Oh well, if they ever release another HD/blue-ray/whatever version of the OT that doesn't have that "NOOOO" I'll just buy that one and give the older blu-rays away to someone who wants them.

That fight is so awesome and part of why I think RotJ is the best of the trilogy.

The whole time Luke refuses to fight Vader and give the audience their satisfaction, and when he finally does explode, it's more chilling than super fun to watch. It's still fun to watch but you know what I mean It's more of a holy shit moment. I got the same feeling watching that scene the first time as I did seeing Vader get disfigured on Mustafar. On one level I like that the shadow of Vader being her father destroyed her political career and forced her right back to square 1 being a terrorist, and her and Han's romance ended in a cold divorce and a broken family

On the other hand, jesus christ JJ, now the only story I want to hear between RoTJ and TFA is how Luke's academy failed

and even that's just a story about the OT trio failing!

And now with Fisher gone, Leia won't even get to recover from her coma and oust Laura Dern's character.

Once again Luke is kind of our only hope for any of the OT to have meant much of anything.

Then again, I have a fetish for seeing my heroes suffer. I love a good "hero gets knocked the fuck down and has to rise back up" story and the ST seems like that stretched out over three movies.

We already got that with Han, kind of. He regresses only to rebound and die the hero he really was. I don't think the arc would have been as effective if he was sitting on Coruscant, chilling all day and then just got up one day to be murdered by Kylo.

They clearly had backups somewhere since they slapped the Death Star II together pretty fast. Tarkin saw the facility there as compromised and thus expendable. If it had stopped the transmission he would have been right. BUT YOU CAN'T STOP THE TRANSMISSION

It was less about killing the rebels and more about stopping the transmission of the Death Star plans. Who knows if any of that stuff there was backed up somewhere else, though. That obviously wasn't the only copy of the DS plans or they wouldn't have been able to make a second one so quickly, so there's probably another facility with copies of all those plans.

For some odd reason, Maul is interesting to me in a way I can't quite describe. He's evil sure, having slain two of Kenobi's closest, but he's not as evil as all the other Sith, like how he didn't fully buy into the rule of 2 and had something resembling a functional family. It's funny that none of that was translated to his actual big appearance in Episode I, and to your casual fan he was just a cool-looking villain that died after serving his role.

I think it was balls to the wall stupid to wipe out the Jedi AGAIN. It's getting pretty ridiculous. And in the opening crawl at that:

If someone had just said it then we could think they are misinformed and secret Jedi could still be out there, but it is hard to argue the opening text is misinformed. About the only thing you can do is argue semantics. That Luke disbanded his school after it was attached and sent the survivors into hiding, so they aren't true Jedi even if they were trained as such. Which could very well be the case with Rey, at the least.

And then we have the oldie that without an Order, without any organization, are they truly Jedi? Luke couldn't escape the title of Jedi since he was charged with Yoda, the Grandmaster of the Old Jedi Order, to rebuild their shit. He could do it again. Which makes his dicking around on Ireland all the more annoying.

At this point I'm just waiting for Episode VIII and hoping they fix this shit.

I just assume that the Scarif facility was the all-encompassing archive of ALL imperial documents. All the goods conveniently in one place. But then you have specific archives for cartography, technical blueprints, official documents and so on.
