Can someone explain the canonicity of the Incredible Cross-Sections? Are they canon or are they Legends now?

I also didn't see links to any archives in the pastebin. Are there no good ones?

My favorite characters in the franchise are Grand Moff Tarkin, Count Dooku and Ki-Adi-Mundi.
Rate.
>>
>>88827182
They're not canon anymore (except the TFA one, I guess), though information from them is slowly being recanonized. I don't think they've released a new version of the old cross-sections books since the canon purge, like they did with Complete Locations.

...which by the way is still kind of unreliable, since it leaves in a lot of stuff that's explicitly wrong, such as the rows of offices behind the senate pods.
>>
>>88827182
I think the current policy is that things like technical details, ship designations etc. are "canon until otherwise conflicted"

for example the HWK-290 appeared in some mobile game but wasn't named as such, so people asked and they said
>"yeah it's the HWK, just assume the ship details are still what they used to be unless we change it"
>>
Can anyone tell me why Harmy decided that people didn't need to see the film they were watching in 2.5 version of the despecialized editions?

>>

Apparently it was that dark in the original, and being despecialized he felt he needed to make it just as dark

Which sucks, but I can see the logic there, if the point is to make it just like the original version
>>
>>88827251
>I don't think they've released a new version of the old cross-sections books since the canon purge, like they did with Complete Locations.
I'm pretty sure I saw several "Complete Cross-Sections" in my Barnes & Noble.
>>
>>88827351
The same shot from different versions of the scene- the upper left is the latest Despecialized version, the lower right is the Blu Ray
>>
>>88827302
They screwed the pooch by not showing anything in regards to his friendship to Galen Erso except for a single flashback. It would have expanded his character so much more and made him more than a stereotypical cruel villain of the week.
>>
>>88827381
Yeah what are you arguing though? What did Harmy do wrong here? It says right in the image why Harmy did what he did.
>>
>>88827182
You know what the Prequel Trilogy did right? Mechanical design. The starships and vehicles were beautiful, both the shiny Republic stuff and the worn-out everyday stuff like the Podracers or the droid from Jek's diner or the hyperspace refugee buses.
>>
>>88827356
What is he despecializing?

The BD Special edition or the VHS 20th Anniversary edition? Those are two different versions.
>>
>>88827380
Yeah, but that one's from 2007. There was also a Complete Vehicles from 2013, just short of the canon purge.

For reference, there was also an earlier version of Complete Locations in 2005, the 2016 one is basically the same thing just with TFA stuff added.
>>
>>88827397
I'm not arguing anything, you asked what we were looking at and I told you.
>>
>>88827403
eh, I prefer the XYA wings, which were based off of real life aircraft

>>88827387

Taking this chance to agree and post my shipfu

when people ask why the prequel ships "look more advanced" I like to explain it to them like the evolution of cars

Naboo N-1 is like a sleek 1940s cruiser car, the T-65 X-wing is an '83 Honda. The performance increased, but the "beautiful crafstmanship" was replaced with utilitarian design.
>>
>>88827356
>Apparently it was that dark in the original, and being despecialized he felt he needed to make it just as dark
I think that's silly. I can understand that some people just really want the films without the changes, but I think when you start altering the colors and damaging the footage it's just time to stop.

>>88827397
>What did Harmy do wrong here?
Do you not see the color filter and the massive loss in detail?

>>88827419
Harmy uses multiple sources to despecialize the films. don't know all of them though, since I don't really care for the despecialized editions all that much
>>
>>88827423
Oh, okay. Any chance of uploading scans to Mega? Or should I just compile these scattered low-quality Jpegs that I have into a rar?

>I think that's silly. I can understand that some people just really want the films without the changes, but I think when you start altering the colors and damaging the footage it's just time to stop.
I don't like it either, but it's consist with the philosophy behind the despecialized versions.

I'm not sure if I want to get the black series figure for my collection, given he's a one-off character that will never be references again, ever.

The only thing that could persuade me otherwise is if it gets heavily discounted in the coming year, and there's really no other worthwhile imperial officers in the figure range.

>>
>>88827533
imperial ships were based on geometric shapes to make them look unnatural and therefore hostile. it does not resemble anything made on earth

the XYA were made to resemble conventional fighters in order to give them a sense of familiarity and comfort, the X-wing was explicitly based of the spitfire, the Y-wing doesnt have an inspiration listed but is assumed to be the P-38, the A-wing is not based on anything, but the central bubble cockpit, rear engines, and the A-shape giving the appearance of "wings" grounds it in reality

the TIE=Zero is actually from EU, where they are described as fragile, but with good turning

Thanks, very informative. Didn't realize the Zero comparison was EU, I'd always thought it came from George.

As for the Y-wing (and to some extent the B-wing) I've always gotten heavy A-10 Thunderbolt vibes from them
>>
>>88827525
Is that the black series stormtrooper? It looks fucking awful.
>>
>>88827705
the ships in general are mixture of WW2 fighter planes and hot rods, with a touch of 70s era jets (the A-10 did not exist)

the X-wing is a space superiority fighter, like an F-22 or F-15, and possibly the P-51 or F-86 designed to shoot other fighters

the Y-wing is a strike fighter, it can dogfight just long enough to clear a path to bomb something
the F/A-15 or the P-38 fit this role

the A-wing is an interceptor, it is supposed to engage bombers before they drop their payload, and the mig-21 Fishbed comes to mind
>>
>>88827761
It's wave 3.
>>
>>88827279
It's named in the game but Leland Chee said if its the same ship as in Legends expect the same tech specs and name unless stated otherwise.
>>
>>88827761
Black Series can be really hit or miss. Stormtrooper was one of their first sculpts in the line, so they hadn't quite gotten a handle on it (technically they released it as a Sandtrooper first and later made a clean version).
>>
>>88827772
Man the old videogames really did a poor job of representing the Y-wing then.

Ever since Rogue Squadron it was always slow as molasses and couldn't dogfight its way out of a wet paper bag.
>>
>>88827772
The X-Wing's primary role is fighter-bomber not superiority. That goes to the A-Wing modified. It was designed to take on capital ships and fighters
>>
>>88827801
ah that clears it up, it'd be a shame to waste all those old cutaways afterall.

I like your comparisons, though ROTJ's space battle is funny since the fighters pretty much go nuts. A-wings and X-wings taking out bombing targets with lasers and a Y-wing popping two Interceptors in the blink of an eye. Star Wars has the best of both worlds I guess?

Since we're talking about tech, why are Star Wars ships atmospheric speeds so low? Modern Jets are faster than most of the craft in lore.

Which scares me. I actually just ordered a black series FO Stormtrooper. I mean, by what I've seen in reviews, the quality is just fine, but I don't know if it changed in recent builds, like Kylo Ren's lightsaber.
>>
>>88827843
the Y-wing in the movies were fighter-bombers, with a Y-wing shooting down a TIE interceptor in RotJ, but the video games made them pure bombers to differentiate them

in X-wing TTG, they are only slightly less maneuverable than an X-wing, otherwise having very similar moves available, while in Armada, the Y-wing is just as fast as the X-wing, trading dogfighting for superior bombs

>>88827848
the X-wing can engage all targets even capital ships, but the movies, video games, and TTG show that fighter-to-fighter is their most glamorized role

>>88827877
the XYAB can all kill other ships in a dogfight, but they do it in different ways
Dutch Vander was a Y-wing ace who focused solely on dogfighting
>>
>>88827943
Aerodynamics are standardized to settings that don't fit any planet because that would give an economic advantage somewhere and that would be corruption. Going with European Union logic here.
>>
>>88827818
Yeah, Revan, Ahsoka, etc are actually great.
>>
>>88827943
being mostly built around flying in a vacuum, most are really not as aerodynamic as they should be
>>
>>88827978
the TIE striker was the only pure atmospheric craft shown in the movies

they are shown being a match for an X-wing in their native habitat
>>
>>88827954
The FO ones are fine. Each wave tends to be better than the next, as long as it's new sculpts.
I've been looking at the BS FO troopers at toysrus but I just don't like the armor that much. I want to stick with original trilogy troopers.

>>
>>88827963

>>
>>88828141
in-universe you would not have a choice, it was the cheapest option available, other than the A-wing

but it managed to be cheap while still being nigh indestructable
>>
>>88828170
I guess you're right, at the time the X-wing was the new hotness afterall. I keep forgetting that in nu-canon it comes AFTER the A-wing

2MB, 2353x1266px
Is the Y-wing the A-10 of the Star Wars universe?
>>
>>88827998
Yeah but then it was probably averaged to fit the average Planet, not the actual one it was stationed on. That's how armies, and especially Soviet zerg armies operate.
>>
>>88828217
Man that thing already looks like it belongs in star wars
>>
>>88828217
there is no dedicated ground support aircraft

however the B-wing is an extremely slow craft, with extreme firepower, although unlike the A-10 it can engage other fighters, and does not resemble the A-10 appearance wise

Speaking of the data towers, I like to imagine that every stupid Imperial idea we've ever seen, EU or canon, is housed there and they all exist in concept form but they were never approved for production. Like one of those files has the plans for this thing.

Or there's a file for the Sun Crusher, complete with a note from Krennic saying "no this is never going to work, you have better things to do with your time"

I think Lucas probably just actually liked it after toying around with some edits.

That edit had me not buy the blu-rays. Prior to that, I had liked or was indifferent to every change in the DVDs. Most of them I thought were better, like the establishing shots of Tattooine, Bespin, etc, making them seem more full of life. The ending song change at RotJ is the single greatest change they made.

I finally said fuck it though and bought the Blu-rays for when I watch with friends and kept an edited version of RotJ on my hard drive for when I have to be a fucking neckbeard and watch a super specific version of RotJ.

Oh well, if they ever release another HD/blue-ray/whatever version of the OT that doesn't have that "NOOOO" I'll just buy that one and give the older blu-rays away to someone who wants them.

Enslaving entire races, genociding the geonosians. Those can generally be considered evil acts.

I don't think the entire Empire was evil though, and most definitely not the average soldier. Misguided maybe.

You're all forgetting the most evil thing the empire did: It didn't genocide the gungans.

Besides that, I agree with some anons that the empire itself is not evil, but Sheev and a lot of the higher echelon is and that is what causes all the issues. The average Imperial soldier/officer is probably a decent enough being.
>>
>>88829044

That fight is so awesome and part of why I think RotJ is the best of the trilogy.

The whole time Luke refuses to fight Vader and give the audience their satisfaction, and when he finally does explode, it's more chilling than super fun to watch. It's still fun to watch but you know what I mean It's more of a holy shit moment. I got the same feeling watching that scene the first time as I did seeing Vader get disfigured on Mustafar. It's almost overwhelming.

Oh, you're one of those

There's no arguing with you that the Empire is evil because from YOUR POINT OF VIEW things like legalized slavery of entire sentient species and genocide are justified.

I just finished a read through of the Marvel Vader and Star Wars series. The arc about the Alliance not wanting to kill imprisoned Imperials is a bit weird post-Rogue One.

Also, not as big of a fan as Aphra as I was before the reread.

The Republic worked, albeit not very well. But yes, The Jedi should be allowed to exist.

You digress too. I'm talking about Ilum, I'm talking about Jedha City and the Temple of the Whills. I'm talking about many of the Jedi temples scattered in the galaxy that the Empire damaged or destroyed. That is a major crime. Irreplaceable artifacts, historical locations, and holy sites.

Her only real mistake was being too nice and morally stable. The rebellion should have taken out everything when it came to the Empire. Having them flee and trusting that they would play nice was the worst plan. But her decision was understandable when the galaxy was sick of conflict.

Shoulda done it in secret though. The resistance should have been an organization the day after Jakku.

Are there any force sensitive plants anywhere in the EU? I'm thinking about dumb force stuff too much. If midichlorians are similar to mitochondria then plants could have them too.

However, in the new Vader comics, the edgy C3PO says force connection is through the blood. He's an unreliable source though

Even from a purely detached viewpoint where you're thinking nothing of life, destroying an already inhabited planet with infrastructure is a bad move. Just because "there's another planet out there" that still means you have to go there, chart it, colonize it, build on it etc.

On the other hand, jesus christ JJ, now the only story I want to hear between RoTJ and TFA is how Luke's academy failed

We already got that with Han, kind of. He regresses only to rebound and die the hero he really was. I don't think the arc would have been as effective if he was sitting on Coruscant, chilling all day and then just got up one day to be murdered by Kylo.

It was less about killing the rebels and more about stopping the transmission of the Death Star plans. Who knows if any of that stuff there was backed up somewhere else, though. For some odd reason, Maul is interesting to me in a way I can't quite describe. He's evil sure, having slain two of Kenobi's closest, but he's not as evil as all the other Sith, like how he didn't fully buy into the rule of 2 and had something resembling a functional family. It's funny that none of that was translated to his actual big appearance in Episode I, and to your casual fan he was just a cool-looking villain that died after serving his role.

I think it was balls to the wall stupid to wipe out the Jedi AGAIN. It's getting pretty ridiculous. And in the opening crawl at that:

>Luke Skywalker has vanished.
>In his absence, the sinister
>FIRST ORDER has risen from
>the ashes of the Empire
>and will not rest until
>Skywalker, the last Jedi,
>has been destroyed.

If someone had just said it then we could think they are misinformed and secret Jedi could still be out there, but it is hard to argue the opening text is misinformed. About the only thing you can do is argue semantics. That Luke disbanded his school after it was attached and sent the survivors into hiding, so they aren't true Jedi even if they were trained as such. Which could very well be the case with Rey, at the least.

And then we have the oldie that without an Order, without any organization, are they truly Jedi? Luke couldn't escape the title of Jedi since he was charged with Yoda, the Grandmaster of the Old Jedi Order, to rebuild their shit. He could do it again. Which makes his dicking around on Ireland all the more annoying.

At this point I'm just waiting for Episode VIII and hoping they fix this shit.

Within the context of the movie it might as well have just been something he acquired to ferry rathtars. It wasn't given any special attachment or significance and Han seemed happy to ditch it. If it was somehow still linked to his company and his loyal employees were all devoured by rathtars, a fact which he doesn't seem to give two shits about, that doesn't say much for Han.

Frankly since he owned a shipping company in Bloodline but by TFA he told Leia he was just smuggling again I thought it was clear he abandoned his company, apparently because he was heartbroken by the loss of Ben and just dumped his entire life to relive whatever semblance of the glory days he and Chewie could manage.
>>
>>88830236
Exactly. That is one of my biggest problems with the movie (that I still generally like).

The second act really needed more free dialogue. It was absolutely crucial to set up the relationships between the characters, but every time they have a discussion, something interrupts it so we can have more action.

I like to imagine this is why the whole brining balance to the force prophecy was even created.

It was forseen that generation after generation of Jedi and Sith were going to add stupid religious dogma and other wrong crap to what is esentially space magic.

Had to wipe the slate clean to unfuck the usage of the force.

Sometimes I wonder where a lot of the Jedi dogma even comes from. We have a pretty good understanding of the Sith, but the Jedi seem to have added a lot of arbitrary rules to how the force works, how it should be used, who uses it etc.

Some of their edicts and traditions seem pretty silly and relate to things the force wouldn't care about. This is why Qui-gon was the best Jedi and if he'd trained Anakin things would be different around here

I'd seriously prefer Ubisoft having the SW licence over EA.

With Ubisoft we'd be showered with Assassin's Creed: Star Wars Edition three times a year, but it would be something at least. EA had the licence for what, three years, and all they pushed out was a rushed, gutted Battlefield reskin.

Say what you want about Ubi, but their games can be at least enjoyable time sinks. And we could have a Clonetrooper game in vein of Siege.

He went too far in many places. I mean, despite Finn being bullied by others, I do not believe it was realistic to have him cheering their deaths. Unless battle prowess is so rewarding for their programming..
Jar Jar Abrams is the key to all of this.

There is a new version with an AT-AT on the cover from 2016 or 15. The cross-sections of smaller vehicles like ISPs and Techno Union Fighter got their own pages while old editions had them around bigger vehicles. The pages of teh book are smaller than older editions so pictures of things like the Invisible Hand are smaller than originally. They made pics of the Home One and Z-74 Speederbikes (and it includes the TIE Interceptor, Lambda Shuttle, B-Wing and TIE Bomber some of which were made for editions between 2006 and 2016, I am not sure on that subject). I think it doesn't have Episode 7 vehicles.

There are also cross-sections of Rogue One vehicles but they are only in the Rogue One Illustrated Guide / Encyclopedia, Krennics Shuttle, Hovertank (with treads lol), U-Wing and the big Rogue One Shuttle. Don't know if that's all, I only flipped through the Rogue One book in a store, I would expect the TIE Striker as well.

The Locations are easier get, the newest edition with Episode 7 drawings includes all the old stuff and the pages are as big as the old ones.

Would hope for some good scans of all the books in the mega file. I have the two "complete" editions of the vehicles and locations from around 2007 but they are a bitch to handle and start falling apart from age, handling and magnifying the pictures on the PC is so much easier.

Leia was adopted by the Organa family, they were influential politicians who could not avoid coming under Imperial scrutiny regularly. In order to protect Leia, it was absolutely necessary that she was raised as their own child and that no one, not even herself, knew otherwise.

Luke was raised on a backwater planet with little Imperial presence, which made an alias pointless. He was also raised by actual family, through Owen's fathers marriage to Shmi Skywalker. He willingly took in his brother's son believing his father dead as a result of his involvement in the clone wars. In a case like that, it would have been extremely weird to make Luke take the Lars surname.

That's completely objective. Bandai figures suffered from no-neck syndrome and their detailing is very often shit. They play fast and loose with proportions like head, feet and hand size.

Look at the image you posted for example. No neck, cramped and chunky overall look. The only thing they really do better when it comes to troopers is the gloss of the armor. Look at the underarmor as well, it has a cloth texture on the black series. The model kit is smooth black plastic. The belt of the kit is also oversized and has gaps around the waist, with the groin plate being plain wrong.

It completely comes down to preference, don't kid yourself though, there's a good reason one is cheaper than the other.

PS the black series shoulder plates can be adjusted for a closer fit.

Obi-Wan looked in the Jedi archives. Found Luke's only living family outside of Anakin and Leia, that was Owen and Beru. He came to them and asked them to take him into their care, they agreed on the condition that he would keep away from them and not cause Luke to follow the path of the Jedi which they felt had gotten Anakin killed. Obi-Wan agreed, but settled on Tatooine to keep an eye out for Luke all the same.

The Black Series is instantly an invalid choice just for the fucked up helmet and speaking of details and proportions being wrong on the kit when the Black Series looks so weirdly skinny and unproportional is a rather weird argument. I give you the neck but at least it's easier to find and change out a similar plastic piece than it is to get a correct helmet and legs that aren't Genu Varum.

And really, nobody gets Stormtrooper helmets right, it's laughable Mafex, Figuarts (now even on the second try), Hasbro, they are all seemingly made with no reference, the model kit and Sideshow/Hot Toys being the only valid choices.

Hol up, now you're making a very common error.
Throughout the original trilogy, the stormtrooper helmets go through several iterations. Whether or not you like the ones they chose is again, up to your preferences. There is huge differences between wave 1, wave 2 and wave 3 troopers, both in mould and paint quality.

If you like the ones the bandai models use more, that's fine, but there's nothing wrong about the ones Hasbro has so far used as a basis.

Droids in star wars ARE sentient. They can learn and make decisions outside their programming.
They aren't supposed to of course, typically it is a result of AI corruption from missing regular maintenance.

There are two kinds of droids, those which develop personalities as a result of the above, and the ones who are made with personalities usually suited for their purpose. Assassin droids are made to find joy and pleasure in hurting and killing organics, tactical droids are given a love for puzzles and brainteasers. These personalities help them function.

Both qualifies as sentience, and both will take measures to protect themselves against deactivation and being reset, because they don't want to lose their personalities and "die".

>I thought that's why they decided to use clones. Only clones can think creatively.

Battle droids are programmed to be less intelligent than their Droid counterparts designed for other functions. This way they can't achieve a higher level of independence and need to be programmed for specific conditions (and it's also probably less expensive to produce). Clones don't need that because, as organic beings, they can adapt to differing conditions and were raised since birth to follow commands.

We have plenty of occasions with the likes of R2 and 3PO who use their wits to get out of situations. Protocol and Astromechs need to have more sophisticated programming for their directives. It's just that with them, they didn't get regular memory wipes like droids are ideally supposed to get.

If Owen didn't want Luke to have anything to do with his past or his father, why did he have him keep the name?

Why would he ever agree to letting Luke go to "the academy", something probably run by imperials, with the last name of a famous and powerful Jedi that literally anyone in the Imperial Navy would recognize, knowing that the Empire at large hates the Jedi?

No. Think for a second.
Anakin Skywalker was never famous outside Jedi circles. Everyone who didn't know he fell to the dark side assumed he died. Nobody would give a shit about the name Skywalker apart from Vader, and Owen believed Anakin was dead and had zero knowledge about Vader, so what possible incentive would he have to try and hide Luke from anyone? He and Beru didn't know anything about the Sith.

Owen also didn't let Luke go to the Imperial Naval Academy like Biggs Darklighter managed to, he explicitly told Obi Wan that Luke would never get to fly as long as he lived because "if he left Tatooine, he would never come back", and he kept that promise.

Owen and Beru were also favorable towards the Imperials on Tatooine, believe it or not. For most of their lives, Jabba had been the de-facto law and nearly killed them during the great drought when Luke was a young kid by demanding that all moisture farmers give 90% of their water to him. (it was only because of Kenobi's unannounced help that they survived). Owen welcomed the Empire and saw them as a chance to finally have real law on the planet, and most youths like Biggs saw it the precise same way. Luke was only enamoured by the idea of the rebellion from the stories he heard about their ace pilots.

I would prefer that nobody have an exclusive license.

Just license individual games to the studio and/or publisher of your choice. Avoid being shackled to any one company. Give it to whoever deserves it.

We could get a Ubisoft Star Wars, a Rockstar Star Wars, a CD Projekt Star Wars, a Bethesda Star Wars, a Square Enix Star Wars, a Kojima Star Wars, etc, etc, etc.

>Anakin is to bring balance to the Force, but at this point we don't know which side needs to be balanced out.

Friendly reminder that the prophecy of the Chosen One makes sense when you realize that it was the Dark Side that needed to be balanced all along. It wasn't just balance in the Force as the Jedi thought it, but balance in the Dark Side of the Force because the Sith had exploited it to the point where it became this huge monster capable of clouding the Force proper.

Anakin's turn to the Dark Side was literally meant to happen as it was the only way he would be able to destroy the Sith as they returned to power - from within rather than without, given the Sith had destroyed the Jedi using the exact same tactic. Thus yin yang.

I think I would have preferred Red and Gold squadrons not be part of the final battle.

It felt forced, and the bits with Red Leader and Gold Leader showing up via archive footage was just weird. I would have preferred the Rebel fleet be pretty much all people we didn't know. It would fit the tone better if the fleet at Scarif was almost completely annihilated.
