I blundered into it. Decided one day that I wanted to read OG Captain Mar-vell (which i also rec btw) and all of a sudden an issue opens with everything turned on its fuckin' head because they assume you've been reading Avengers too and cram the past 6 months of Avengers into the inter-issue gap.
Were you reading comics back in 2011? 'Member Fear Itself? Since it was a Thor event Thor's own comic didn't have a Fear Itself tie-in, so the first issue the month after Fear Itself ended opens with Thor apparently dead and replaced with this all-new all-different bozo. It was kind of like that.

Not that I'm complaining, Event comics weren't a thing back then and I got some cool Vision pages out of it.

Also, if you like it, there's all sorts of sequels and callbacks. Englehart's Silver Surfer continued (and concluded) the war, Operation Galactic Storm was an Avengers event about an ANAD war, And then there's Avengers Forever. Hoohoo boy Avengers Forever. 12 issue miniseries, Kurt Busiek, basically a sequel that delves deeper into the 'latent psionic talents' part but also into Kang lore, obscure Thor arcs, every time an Avengers writer fucked up... it's fucking comprehensive, to say the least. I only flicked through to the bits I was interested in and still felt out of my depth.

Also, you a Young Avengers/AIMvengers fan? Keep an eye on the Skrull princess' scenes, whenever she pops up.

Her Binary suit was a full-body dark red bodysuit with white detailing. She wasn't flying around in some kind of white swimsuit thing. This was amply shown when she was going around powered down.

Anyone interpreting it as a slut costume is just a pervert, it was in fact Carol's first full body uniform.

I've read his bat-epic and stuff, but when I started reading 'The Invisibles' I got a powerful feeling of 'I'm not high enough for this', and havn't been able to get my hands on anything to read it with. I'm a tad worried that his Doom Patrol will be the same way, since Morrisson himself has said he was on a lot of drugs when he wrote it and I'd rather be in a similar headspace if possible

Really? I downloaded all of Invisibles v1 and was ungodly bored by the end of the first issue. Only even bothered skimming through the rest because it was already there on my hardrive.

I get the sense the recent writers have been incorporating the binary-level power into her base Ms Marvel powerset. They want her to be one of the most powerful Marvel heroes and her original powerset, while powerful, isn't quite up to the cosmic player they want her to be.

It be inconsistent as hell, sometimes she'll be a typical energy projector, some other times she'll fire off moon-shattering bolts, but I don't think we'll see too much more of the actual binary form

This indicates to me that Cockrum intended it to be one of his patented swimsuit-with-cutouts outfits like the ones he designed for Storm and several Legion of Superheroes members, but that Paul Smith who picked up the art in the very next issue to feature Carol either didn't know or didn't like it, and just made it a full bodysuit.

Incidentally, during several of her early appearances in Uncanny it appeared that Mystique was actually wearing a dark blue bodysuit with her familiar white dress over it, since her skin tone on her face was totally different than her body. That didn't seem to be the case in her first appearance in ms Marvel, so I'm wondering if it was a conscious move to make the outfits a bit less "sexy". This was also the time when Storm switched from her Cockrum swimsuit to her punk look after all.

God help me, I think I've fallen for Carol Danvers.

Don't get me wrong, I never really paid much attention to her when she was Miss Marvel, although I recognize she was handled a lot better back then. I hate Marvel's forced marketing campaign. I hate the dyke haircut. I hate how she's portrayed as an asshole and it's treated as a plus. I hate Marvel Studios cast Brie Larson just because she's popular now.

discussion on this thread about people wanting Carol to go full "Evil empress" go me thinking. So I started writing a "regular Carol meets evil empress Carol" fanfic. (I haven't finished, kind of ran out of steam....) The basic concept is that evil empress Carol is trying to build a multiversal empire, and is forming a sisterhood of alternate Carols as her leadership. regular Carol finds out about this when one of them appear outside the Triskelion and asks her if she'd like to join.

besides "evil empress" Carol and regular Carol, I came up with: Administrator Carol (unpowered, 60-ish, bitter, vicious old lesbian); Ninja Carol (shadow-meld powers); Teen Carol (wears pink, naive, has no idea what she's gotten herself into); Warbird (essentially the same as regular Carol used to look, only meaner); Cutter (psychotic sadomasochist, wears nearly nothing, compulsively cuts herself and others with her magic blades); Cyber-Marvel (essentially Cyborg from DC, only insane and with extra bionic arms); Wild Blue (essentially DC Superwoman. polite, well-mannered, educated, believes non-powered humans are sheep to be ruled by the powered); Carl Danvers (unpowered male Carol, has powered armor sorta like warmachine. Not actually evil, just very selfish, and deeply regretting getting involved with Empress Carol).

the "Sisterhood of Carols" is essentially the ruling council of the Empire. various spider-people are the sisterhood's personal death squad and black ops outfit. Almost every Carol is romantically involved with a Jessica, a Peter Parker, a Kamala, or all three. The Sisterhood's private chambers has an extensive harem, which they share.

Beneath the Sisterhood's chambers is a prison. It's where they keep the Carol's who didn't want to join, or are too dangerous to be allowed to wander around. And so on.

I've been seriously mulling over a fic that starts as an alternate ending for CWII. In the middle of the Stark-Danvers fight, SHIELD and super heroes break up the fight and Captain Hydra produces video he took right before the fight that Carol knew that Rhodey and Banner were going to die ahead of time and has been fabricating predictions against her enemies to get them out of the way and build her bureau's credibility, and some plans for lotteries and sports betting.

Carol breaks down professing her innocence, but there is a big fight. At a dramatic moment, Carol is teleported on board a Kree space ship in orbit. Ronan is there and he says he seeking Earth's aid for the Kree Empire against the Badoon. He wanted the Avengers originally, but he is willing to offer Carol sanctuary if she will join the Kree military until the war is finished and Carol's name is cleared.

It would be a slow build until Carol would become Empress (under the advisement of the Supreme Intelligence) after winning 2 wars, withstanding 1 forcible extradition attempt by the Avengers, and then war with Earth.

There was an arc from Reed's Ms. Marvel run where an alternate universe Danvers showed up to kill Rogue. Apparently she had been dimension hopping and doing that for a while, but the other Carols kept getting in the way, so she offed them, too.
