They do evoke his designs somewhat, but not the flourishes, which would have been difficult to translate to 3D anyway. I really do like what they've done here, though. Where others may see simplicity, I see elegance and directness, and they nailed the body language.

Looking through the credits, I was surprised by how small the team was. It's quite an achievement.

I was very impressed with how the stories were weaved together, and the climax that was powerful, dramatic, and kept the spirit of the other 5 stories. I gladly take this over Goldilocks, which was just a straight up retelling.

On the other hand, if this had been a full length movie with 20 more minutes for them to play around with, I think they would have been able to write in Goldilocks.

As far as Roald Dahl adaptations are concerned, this is near or at the top alongside Fantastic Mr. Fox for me. It does something rare for adaptations. It added more without taking much away, and was respectful of the spirit of the original.

That was my favorite book too.

I normally disliked most of Dahl's stories because they always presented the villa as being an ugly motherfucker, and I happen to be an ugly motherfucker, and reading these stories basicly told me I was the ugly villan with no happy ending.

What did you guys think about the BFG movie? I never read the book, but I thought it was okay. My brother read the book when he was young, and it was one of his favorite books, and he seemed to enjoy it fine.

Just curious if it was a good adaption or not

I absolutely loved the books when I was a kid, and really enjoyed the adaptation.

unrelated but I watched Ethel and Ernest on iplayer yesterday and liked it just that little bit more

God damn this was charming as hell. I loved all of it, the art style, animation, the storytelling, voice acting, it was all so pleasant and charming and sweet. Red and Snow were adorable as hell and this is the first time I've really shipped something, wolf was great and I love how he ended up being a total softie.

I really did like the first part more than the second just because I think the fairy tale parts were more interesting, but the second part had the cute kids to make up for it.

Really nice stuff, an hour absolutely well spent. Thanks for bringing this to my attention thread.
