Just randomly throw shadows anywhere, same way you shade everything else.
>>
It's been a productive few days, so I am getting started on some holiday cards for patrons for next year since I'm waiting on my assistant to ink. Really excited about starting my next storyline next week.

I'm planning on doing a Haunted Mansion themed card with my characters in the classic stretching portraits.

>>
>>88807253
What's the story gonna be about? And where are you posting it?
>>
>>88811161
Guess I'll just let it out.

It's about an older brother named Aaron who wants to focus on working hard to support him and his younger brother Nate. Even when the older brother received super powers, Aaron would much rather work and not risk losing his life, worrying for Nate's future for a happy life. But Nate loves super heroes, so Aaron goes out and be a hero on his spare time from work just to make Nate happy.

I have like their entire arc set up and spent a lot of time solidifying it.
>>
>>88811312
That sounds good, the reluctant hero stories are always interesting. So where are you posting the comic?
>>
>>88811161
As for where, I might just make a WordPress or Tumblr page.

>>
>>88819917
yeah that's an interesting one. They do that for blindness or for hypnosis. the latter sort of makes sense, as the eyes 'glaze over' so their shininess is interrupted, but unless it's meant to represent cataracts, the former is a weird choice.
>>
>>88819936
That might actually be an interesting topic of discussion: do you feel like it's possible to make up any new comic shorthands and expressions? Obviously a century ago people thought so, and kept inventing them
>>
Long time lurker here. I want to make a 4 strip gag a day (couple times a week, let's be real) in the vein of early Sinfest, maybe some full spreads like Octopus pie.

Only problem is I'm using gimp. Pen settings are really hard to manipulate to make it flow natural like pencil on paper.

Been updating my webcomic NANDENO for over a year. http://nandeno.com/
It's sort of a slice of life comic with really stupid, crude humor. Here's the most recent page from the current story arc.
>>
>>88822034
ehhh who can say
>>
>>88822182
i love the stupid crude humor in this comic. the latest arc hasnt exactly pulled me in but it's all good
the art has gotten a lot better too, though I feel like lately it's kind of looking like it's pasted from templates when it clearly isnt
>>
>>88822177
The FB page is called Art Of Herbie Grimm

>>
>>88817384

>>
>>88822245
Thank you. I really hope the next few pages can pull you in. It's my first longer arc so I'll try to learn from it and make the following arcs better. Any particular reason it looks pasted from templates? Is there any way I could improve upon that?
>>
>>88821963
If you have a character talking that much, try condensing what he says to smaller amount of words but still meaning that same as what he is originally trying to get across.

If you have so much text it will overwhelm the reader and will probably get bored of wanting to read all that.

Gotta have the reader in mind and how to keep their attention and not bore them. This is a visual medium, try to "show more, tell less."
>>
>>88822841
Yeah, that was the idea. It's issue five, the previous four issues were almost wordless. It's time to slow down and talk about what's been happening.
>>
>>88822335
>>88822034
>give advice
>asked to back it up
gah, I wasn't ready! It's just kind of a feeling, or taste..
I guess in Supper's case I can say it's the regular geometry, the lack of a lot of different angles
>>
>>88822841
I'm okay with walls of text when necessary. it just means that's how the story is. you just don't want a ton and you sure as fuck don't wanna START your comic with one unless it's reaallly enthralling. and even then try to break it up into more pages.
>>
>>88822899
fuck, I've been doing my best to use more interesting angles but I'll just have to work even harder on that. Thank you!
>>
>>88821978
>>88822034
Try playing with line weights more, a lot of it feels jarring and scratchy in some places.

I can tell you referenced the pope's face in panel one and the anatomy is really off. Maybe try not to replicate his face too hard, and just borrow a few elements that stand out and work with that.
>>
>>88822992
Thanks.
>>
>>88822914
More pages? Or you mean more panels? Either way, he probably shouldn't have mountains of text if he can help it, unless all the details are crucial.
>>
>>88823017
No problem.

Just please learn from your missteps and improve, unlike some people here...

>>88823069
I try to practice anatomy every day. I hope to get better with every monthly issue. Thanks for pointing out the mistakes, I'll work in the lineweight.
>>
>>88822966
Well I mean, panel 5 is a slightly-underneath shot of kristi, but her expression is so identical to panel 2 that it doesnt come off that way, and the scene is still perfectly horizontal head-on to every other character and the house.

I mean I'm really guilty of this too, and I don't even think it's a super bad thing. It's just that when you combine it with such clean, consistent art, it starts to make you feel like this is maybe a little too perfect
>>
>>88823044
either one. point is give the audience something to enjoy while they learn. if the text is that important, and it should be if you have that much, there must be something else you can draw to represent some of it. a flashback, a closeup on a face expressing how it affected him, something.
>>
>>88823120
You're right, I should've paid more attention to that. I honestly took the easy way out with the house because i'm awful at drawing buildings. I gotta practice that more. Thanks again.
>>
>>88823131
Right. I tried explaining adding more panels to keep the reader's interest up by showing more panels and help enhance the narrative visually as well as with dialogue. They can try setting atmosphere or even a certain visual story along with dialogue.
>>
>>88823296
Bendis gets away with splash pages of text though.
>>
>>88823223
and there's nothing wrong with that. it's a simple comedy comic after all
>>
>>88823331
Just because he gets anyway with it doesn't mean it's always ok.

He gets away with writing obviously bad comic events like CWII and still keeps getting work.

So I've been thinking of making comics from my tabletop games. Only thing is, I have a few ideas and I'd like a few stories going rather than just one long ongoing story. Kind of like Oglaf does, but organized better so you can choose to read a particular story if you so wished. I've never made a webcomic before though, do you guys think this would be a shit idea? pic related is an example of my art and also one of the main characters it would revolve around

>>
>>88823896
sounds like it'd be hard to do well. God knows Oglaf doesn't do it that well, I never notice their continuity until someone points it out in one of the rare /co/ threads.
One thing you could do perhaps is to archive them both ways, and with each new entry into that side story, you post links to the previous ones, or to that sub-archive.
what's with her cape thing? her arms go through it, but on one side it ends at the elbow but then continues behind the arm?
>>

Basically you'd have a bunch of different webcomics sporadically updating on the one site?

It's not a terrible idea, but it'll be hard to keep people invested when the story they like doesn't update regularly.

Personality is charming, strange, trusting to the extent of naive, and seductive. She's from a high-tech place in 2050 where magic is believed to be limited to fantasy comics and video games, but superheroes exist and are all over the place fighting crime and each other. She stumbles upon a hermit in a magic tree who happens to be charlemagne and he teaches her magic, which she uses to be a superhero.

>>88824204
Agreed, he could have done that way better. For example I found myself really liking the Apprentice Sorcerer storyline and wanted to just read that; even tags would have helped. The cloak is almost like a poncho, the arms are really wide and loose. I did this real quick to maybe illustrate it better. The inside is a silky material with stars, and then there's just a scarf thing that goes over her shoulders of the same material

>>88824408
That's my main concern, yep. I'm looking to find a balance between keeping myself interested and any readers interested

I'm not making a web comic yet, I'm still trying to learn how to draw and use a drawing tablet, but what can I improve on? I know its pretty shitty but I want to know what to do now and for the future.
>>
>>88826009
it's hard to say just from here, since there's hardly a 'wrong' way to draw a cartoon guy (i like his hair and eyebrows)
I can give a little feedback on suggested changes to anatomy (the inner ear shape, look at how some other cartoons draw that. i'm fond of a ? shape, also I'd move his head further to the right since it's meant to be tilted to our right, like further forward on the neck) but otherwise my only real suggestion for IMPROVEMENT is the way that your lines are rounded at the end. Whether you can change that in your pen settings or whether you have to simply carefully erase after each one, it's good to get pointed tips at the end of pointy shapes, don't you think?

also it looks like you tried a little rim lighting on the hair.. that's not a good idea, better to think of the hair as a 3d shape (or just symbol-draw a hair-shading shape on it. usually some kind of zigzag that goes in an arch downward)
>>
>>88826009
oh also dem pupes is tiny. is he on all the crack?
>>
>>88826209
Alright cool, thank you for the feedback! I'm still trying to explore the settings of my tablet and photoshop so I'll keep the things you said in mind about pen settings, when is it appropriate to add rim lighting? I just wanted to make it seem a little less basic and plain looking.
>>
>>88826908
>when is it appropriate to add rim lighting?
when a light source is behind them
>>
>>88824944
Do you already have story arcs planned? If so, what kind of adventures has she had as a hero? What are the rules of the universe she's in? You mentioned based on a game, will you play fast an loose with how those games went to make a better story?
>>
>>88827507
I'd like to know this second one too, especially since cape franchises usually DO have magicians in them, and it's always interesting how they fight totally different types of foes, as if superheroes are like doctors and you go to a different one with your demon problems than you do with your robbed-banks or your guy in a giant robot suit

but if she's supposed to be in a world where nobody else knows about magic, but they DO have superheroes, then that'll be this nice contrast

>>88827561
>>88828427

>but if she's supposed to be in a world where nobody else knows about magic, but they DO have superheroes, then that'll be this nice contrast
That's pretty much it. It's got lots of capes but magic is pretty unknown. 99% of people deny the existence of it even if it smacks them in the face (even one of her team members refused to believe she was using actual magic for a while and just said it was nanomachines).

>it's always interesting how they fight totally different types of foes, as if superheroes are like doctors and you go to a different one with your demon problems than you do with your robbed-banks or your guy in a giant robot suit

I agree! That's part of the reason I wanted to do several stories at once, because I have another character in the same setting who is a mutant and sees a whole other side of the world.

>>88827507
>Do you already have story arcs planned? If so, what kind of adventures has she had as a hero?

Yep. At first she starts fighting low-level crime by herself for a short time to test out her magic. Then she meets some people and they gather a team, including
>A psychic who tells everyone he is a doctor. Is not actually a doctor, just pretends and has a fake business in which he psychic-heals people on the DL
>An angry and morally ambiguous large game hunter, has no powers other than her amazing ability with guns
>A genius who is also kind of goofy and has his dumb moments. Can build a bomb but forgets how to tie his shoes sometimes. Builds the team weapons and has a crush on the angry hunter girl, this does not go well
>A poor street rat type of kid who has the mask of a long-dead samurai that talks to him sometimes and warns him of danger. Nobody believes him because they can't hear it talk.

The team parts ways and Camille goes off to find other magic characters and gets a little band going after a while of searching. She eventually gets thrown into a fantasy setting on accident.

Break up that wall of text over several panels, instead of just one big full page splash.

Imagine he's an actor on TV. The director wouldn't just have him standing still and talking.

What is he doing? Walking around? Examining the furniture? Performing some minor activities? What facial expressions does he have? Who are the people around him and how do they react to the things he is saying?

There's no need to go overboard with dramatic angles and extreme close-ups, but a few varied panels would make things more interesting.

Check my work out, /co/! It just got an update!

A boy falls in love with a girl. He is mysteriously gifted with her phone number. He calls her and finds out that she likes him as well. But the next day, she doesn't remember the confession. The girl he called is not the same girl he fell in love with. In fact, she doesn’t exist in this universe at all. She is the girl’s alternate universe counterpart, who likes his own alternate self. Hijinks ensue as the two tell each other their darkest secrets to conquer the hearts of their other selves.

Tablet is still broke but I'm working on writing right now and I need some opinions.

I have twin characters who function on one shared brain linked telepathically. Would it be better if they had one left brain/ one right brain personalities, one positive/ one negative personalities or should they just be completely identical and perform as one single organism spread into two bodies?

Here's some really old art of one of them for reference, please don't criticize it, I know it's bad I just need help with the writing right now.

I like to draw comics. I like to draw lewd. I would be really interested in putting some lewd pages into my comic where they'd be "appropriate" (word used loosely, maybe it's never appropriate?) but also steer clear of bad pandering outside of 'sex scenes' if you will.

Is this a bad idea? Will people stop reading my comics if there is some pr0n thrown in occasionally? I'm not talking hardcore fetish shit, just seeing some dicks and tits and people getting it on.

Just be up front about it from the start; have a disclaimer to one side saying "May contain mature themes and content", that sort of thing.
>>
>>88841151
Hmmm I feel like a combination of the first and last options are the best. They should mostly work as a unit but in the way that the two sides of your brain work together (especially someone with their connectors severed, who isn't aware of how their sides are working together)

>>
>>88841151
I think there's some potential to this idea. How ever the good twin/evil twin cliché is over done.
Instead have each of the twins emphasize the differences of each side of the brain. Such as the left side being more logical and the right being more emotional.
This might be more difficult to write, but would make for more interesting characters. Like one side would try to solve a problem with some elaborate scheme, whilst having no regard for the safety of those involved. While the other would try to solve the situation with simply talking it threw.
>>
>>88842362
>>88842926

Alright, I'll put some research into split-brains and implement it in a similar way, I think that could turn out pretty interesting. Thanks for the input.

Both are evil and they get along incredibly well since they're sort of the same person. So no matter what there won't be a good/evil thing, they can't even go more than a few meters away from eachother so that wouldn't work. I just meant one could be more optimistic and ambitious while the other could be more withdrawn. I think I will have one of them be more logical, with the other being more creative, they'll be sociopaths no matter what though.

>>88842386
I didn't want anyone criticizing my art from a year ago instead of actually helping with the current question. It's happened before multiple times.

Yeah I can respect that
But wait, isn't your comic that really angular one with lots of red and blue? This looks a lot more polished and shaded and 3d than I remember the art from that being. Though of course there's a difference between promo art, concept art, and what goes into the finished comic

Seems like an interesting idea, but I think there's a reason why I'v never seen that done right.
Everyone knows it's easier to draw some random lewds then it is to right a compelling story. And naturally most will chose the path of least resistance.
Like "Rock Cocks" for example, it might have had a story at one point, but eventually it just became random sex scenes the comic.
What I'm trying to say here is, I think over all your comic will suffer for it.

Yeah that's me.Those characters are each drawn in the time limit of an hour and are for a comic I'm planning on updating almost every day. That picture of Damath I posted took an ENTIRE MONTH and still manages to have a shitty background, bad anatomy, and have a color palette consisting only of yellow. If I devoted a span of time that absurd to a character now it would look far better. Here's a comparison of what I've been able to accomplish in a month's time over the past year.

The first is just a character portrait, second was a (now scrapped) animated environment to start videos with, and the third is a panning animation background for a character to interact with. Each of these took around the same amount of time and each one is progressively more advanced than the last.

I think the improvement is pronounced I just use it in different ways. Once I get these animation backgrounds out of the way I'll do some more of those high detail character portraits but they won't take near as much time and they'll look far better.

It's never appropriate for a good narrative. If you care about the story in your comic, don't do it, if you want to just draw whatever, go ahead. Just, like the other guy said, let people know your comic is about porn.

They are unnecessary, but there's a difference. We are talking porn movies here, there is a story, but the highlight is the explicit sex scene.

Imagine your favorite movie, now imagine they have to show the every major character having sex at least once in it's entirety, a five-ish minute scene. How well would that fit into the narrative? Why did they show that to us?

>>88845658
It's not arbitrary, and we are not talking about elements a normal story might have, like I said, we are talking about porn. A story is a story, porn is porn.

>>88846531
I'm no one to talk, I used sex so poorly for my current chapter, I feel ashamed of myself, but, the thing about sex is that if it's not part of the story, it's just an extra feature, like eating or going to the bathroom, and you don't see many of those scenes portrayed for a reason.
In Porn, sex is the main objective, so they obviously highlight that, but in a regular story, if sex is not part of the event that move the plot forward, it's just a feature, and focusing on it is counter-productive.

I'm not saying it's bad or that you shouldn't do it, but if you have a story that doesn't rely on it, then you should probably do the same.
If you know that and still wanna do it, go nuts, don't let me spoil your fun.

had to look it up since I often look at my ears in the mirror and observe people in the streets all the time. honestly? I just took the positioning for granted.

according to the book it's fine I suppose. these are just ideal positions either way, every person is made differently. heck, I doubt your fingers match perfectly against each other. and thats all dandy, we are all full of flaws and that right there is what gives us character.

It's better to work at larger than print size, for the most part. If you're going to be printing at A5/300dpi, consider working at A5/600dpi.

I actually work at A5/1200dpi for my strips, but they're b&w/greyscale. Use 600dpi if you're using full colour.

I have decided to start coloring the pages from the first chapter that was only gray scale.
The first chapter is completed, for the most part, in terms of inking.

Chapter 1:
total pages:53
Inking: 53/53
Coloring : 9 / 53

Chapter 2:
Storyboard: 19/19

I am restricting the page amount to 19 or around that starting to chapter 2. The current aim is to finish its production with a month or two. It'll be must simpler art wise, but I am stilling aiming to color it. I am planning on building the background in 3D and do with parts that I can reused as settings.

I've recently completed my first novel length comic and I'm putting up the first chapter here if anyone would care to look.

http://badnewsallday.thecomicseries.com/comics/first

It's a horror/crime comic that I'm having bound to serve as part of a portfolio. My background is in fine art and I've sought to be expressive rather than be consistent. I finished the 190 pages in two months.

As it wasn't started as a webcomic it might seem very slow paced.

>>
I've come up with an idea, but it's still very raw and needs refining. Here's what I got soo far.

>A Fantasy setting set on Earth a thousand years after our civilization collapses.
>The items most prized in the world are vinyl records that survived the collapse.
>A vinyl record is literally worth 50 times its weight in gold.
>Certain records are considered holy scripture and entire Kingdoms have been built around their words.

Again, it's still pretty crude but I think it would be interesting.

Thoughts? Suggestion?
>>
>>88866682

>>
>>88866747

>>
>>88866682
I love aspects of this. I'm not sure if the scale is really right, 1000 years is kind of a long time.. but i've always wanted treasure-hunting modern media in something as the focus of a story.

Hey guys, I just finished the first chapter of my comic and I'm planning on taking a short hiatus between chapters to rebuild my buffer for the next chapter. How would people feel about a Torpedo style noir comic, but not as comedic?
>>
>>88867008
Doesn't have to be a thousand years. It's honestly just an arbitrary number I originally came up with. Could easily make it shorter to better fit.

I'm more worried about how people actually listen to records. So far I have a whole class based group set up who's sole purpose in life is to build and maintain devices capable of playing them but that might not be final.
>>
>>88867039
I like the colouring.

Also, take as big of a break as you want. Just keep in mind that too long and people might lose interest.

This is the size she always is. If it looks inconsistent, assume it's a mistake. In the panels where she's in a robe, the robe is tied right under her boobs instead of her waist, since that's the thinnest part of her torso. That made it trickier for me to get her body right in some of the poses so she wound up with a more dramatic hourglass shape. It's a known issue.

She's a spoiled rich kid who prefers to levitate instead of walking. Her body type is part of her character.

I did a quick read through of your comic and here are my thoughts.

I think you're off to a good start. You have varied panels and page layouts, some experimentation with color schemes, and a few jokes that me chuckle. I'm guessing this is some sort of shounen action comic, from what I saw.
I think the main thing you need to work on is your faces, figures, and just anatomy in general. Jimmie's face often looks lopsided and assymetrical, and Eight's body often looks boneless or oddly proportioned. My advice would be to do some practice with figure drawing.
https://www.quickposes.com/en
^This site is a great place to practice figure drawing if you can't do it irl. Try doing 10-20 30 second sketches a day. Also, don't be afraid to look at photo references for faces or poses as you draw, they can help immensely.
>>
Odd question, but has there ever been a webcomic that worked well using only renders of 3D assets?

Like, I can't draw for shit, but I model and animate pretty okay, so is there cases showing that being good enough?

I had an idea for a shitty ms paint webcomic once.

Basically a giant weeb with no sexual limits and his three friends, a quiet psychopath, a girl pyro and a chubby heavy metal fan, come across some foxgirl in the woods outside their school who just escaped from a military facility. The overarching plot was about them trying to save her from the military and the evil monstergirls, but each comic would be him trying to act suave to impress her and failing super hard, but somehow using his stupidity to save the day either by sheer determination or all the bad guys being caught offguard that someone could be this big of an idiot.

Well, it's a one-off artist while my normal one is on vacation.

>>you heathen, that's clearly a squid lady with deer legs

It's a Blanket Octopus lady with Gerenuk legs, technically, though a Gerenuk is basically a deer anyway. The script describes it as "just a one-off WTF monster that looks like a mind flayer fucked an antelope at a pride festival and the offspring took up LARPing", which I think Threen captured well enough. I call it a Rainbowlopepus.

I loved Animorphs as a kid, and a lot of the aliens there were weird animal mashups, so I'm trying to do a bit of that myself to give Saffron some more varied monster designs than the basic crabmen seen so far.

>but has there ever been a webcomic that worked well using only renders of 3D assets?

Yes. But you won't. If you could you would already be doing it.
>>
>>88875642
Well, i wouldn't do it anytime soon cause I already desperately need to get back to looking for a job.
I just meant as a thing to think about for the future if I get the time to do it.
I've had a lot of autistic story ideas in the past, but I can't into 2D art at all, so I was thinking if I could possibly do them in 3D instead at some point.

I just wanted to know if there's any kind of precedent for a 3D webcomic that actually pulled off a decent look.

quick 1 minute sketch and 3 minutes spent blending and erasing

made in sketchbook pro from scratch, quick freestyle, forgive any bad anatomy

censored for blue board

i use the smudge web brush to blend in sketchbook pro

Should i make an entire webcomic with blending?

If i do i want it to be about nothing but lesbians!

I have a question. Is an author allowed to make a Fanfic comic their work if they want? I sort of have a creative idea that I've been developing for a while but don't want to suffer the same stigma as Bleedman or CWC for making an entirely unoriginal work with other series characters.
>>
>>88879374
The issue with Bleedman and CWC is that they run roughshod over the source material, the former for cheap thrills, and the latter with no self awareness. Make sure to keep a healthy relationship with your fellow fans.

For what it's worth, my webcomic I'm outlining is being converted from an unpublished AU fanfic, so I lose out on that pre-existing readership.
>>
>>88879582
I think one of the biggest difficulties with my planned work is the original series is heavily based on a certain shipping element, and I not only disregard that but go the opposite way as far as popular fan opinion goes.

I basically want to sink the flagship ship because it's lame that the titular characters would ever get together and dare to attempt to introduce and re-fit some of lesser side characters.

Don't want to sound mean but this is far too outside of the "plausible deniability" window. It looks like it's shitty on purpose. What you're trying to do takes a very fine touch. Tails Gets Trolled does it right. You're reusing far too many assets and photoshopping in well-drawn hands is not doing you any favors.

Did a few updates for Something You Want, here's the most recent page.
Last time I posted someone recommended I try giving line weight, but the brush I'm using (HB Pencil from Kyle T Webster) doesn't really allow for much in the way of weight with the strokes. Any recommendation on how to improve? (other than using a different brush)
https://tapastic.com/series/Something-You-Want
http://somethingyouwant.tumblr.com/
>>
>>88887718
You can just go over the lines to make them bolder, the good, old pen & paper style.
>>
>>88887718
I feel your art would benefit from having some more greyscale shading or spot backs. As is, your pages feel somewhat flat and incomplete because your linework is so simple and your panels have so much plain white space.
>>
>>88888076
I need to do some research on how to actually place where the weight is. I gave what you said a shot and it really does pop a lot more - I'm going to try to do this on my next page.
>>88888272
I've tried to include some shading in the most recent page but made it very slight so that I wouldn't be going from absolutely no shading to sudden shading, but I'll push that on the next page too. What's a spot back?
>>
>>88888418
Hah I was just fixing to post a help thing like this. Yeah this is a good way to go. I like pencil lines.

If you don't want to go color I'd add some more text somehow. put some hatching for shading or something like that. give it a bit more contrast.

You could probably make your speech bubbles about half as big as they are. It'd still be perfectly readable and you'd have more room for art.
>>
>>88898879
Haha, don't we all.

My graphire is a 4x3 though, and I actually prefer it to the larger ones because it fits in the space of a mouse pad and I can use it in a reasonably ergonomic writing position.

Big tablets annoy me because even if you can get more control with closer to 1:1 mapping, the damn thing practically requires you to put it in your lap, or otherwise have a huge empty desk and your keyboard out of reach.
>>
>>88899048
Thanks for that, it's something even I agree with, it's hard to believe but they were even bigger and took up MORE space before. Slowly getting to a better size thankfully haha.
>>
>>88899070
Mine comes with little legs, so I can prop it up OVER my mouse and let it take up that same space
then when I'm done with it I can move it over to the side, or prop it up enough to let me reach under it and use the mouse.

Help me decide something. This is my first foray into shading. I'm using colored pencils and blending anywhere from 2 to 5 colors to get the shades and textures I want. I need the good people of /hyw/ to tell me what's wrong with it.
>>
anybody else frustrated with inexplicably finding that their comic takes much longer to draw than it used to?
>>
>>88902377
you seem to be placing the shadows nearly at random.. that said, with something this absurdist, it's hard to determine correct shading (the majority that draw this way don't bother to shade)
Try to divorce yourself of the habit of following along outlines and think of what shape the shading should be (the part that the light source isn't hitting)

So is it possible to start a Patreon and keep it hidden while testing shit and getting it set up?

God dammit why do webcomic authors have to be so contradicting all the time? I want to take my comic seriously and maybe even make a living out of it but can't decide what to do about the shitty old parts of the story.

They do. Pretty sure that shot is from one of the movies, though, so it was the animators that threw the yen symbol in, not Toriyama. It doesn't need to make anymore sense than anything else about the movies.

Why not, friend? I'm sharing my stuff, even though I'm self conscious of it.
>>
>>88904001
Your artstyle is awesome. It's oddly nostalgic yet original enough that I can't really pin it to anything similar that I'd have reason to feel nostalgic about.
>>
>>88904001
I wasn't aware AR ever did specifically furry art, more like a bunch of funny Kricfalusiesque demons and such. I liked her art til she got all politicky.

also this is.. this is subtly funny right here.

I dunno I think someone posted it in another thread. it's very /co/ humor
>>
>>88904019
>Why not, friend? I'm sharing my stuff, even though I'm self conscious of it.
Honestly I'm just trying to build up to it. Half of the time this general seems really fun to share stuff in, but I don't take harsh criticism well. It's why I took so long to actually take improvement seriously at all.

This particular comic, which is the only one I've done in this style, was inspired by sunday newspaper comics, but not any one comic in particular. Anything in that style tends to have that nostalgic feeling.

I was being vague on purpose. I have a different webcomic community I post in, which is where I generally hear the "don't remake!" rhetoric.

After discovering /hyw/ I asked about it here and the majority of replies were "if it's that shit just remake it or it'll never be presentable."
>>
>>88904125
oh weird. because I have no life and I'm in every one of these threads and we almost always say don't-remake
unless you've just barely started and only gotten like 10 out, then go ahead and remake
I know because if that many people disagreed I'd remember having a mild argument with them.

You don't really need a network to be successful. But a network doesn't have to be successful to coax you in to joining. Tapastic has big names like Nedroid and KC Green. Whatever site you're attached to is probably trying to capture content creators who wat to get exposure but haven't managed to yet.
>>
>>88904566
>You don't really need a network to be successful.
No, but when I see authors with comics hosted on multiple sites getting free thousands of extra readers on certain sites and not others, it speaks volumes to what these sites are doing to help authors gain exposure.

>Tapastic has big names like Nedroid and KC Green.
It's really too bad because Tapastic's layout is fucking disgusting. It's painful trying to read comics there.

>Whatever site you're attached to is probably trying to capture content creators who wat to get exposure but haven't managed to yet.
It's doing the opposite of that. It's small and run by a solitary admin and there's no effort put into giving lesser-known comics exposure.

Then it's largely pointless to try to sign up with a network. Especially since we live in a world where patreon exists. Unrelated question, do you have a website?

>Then it's largely pointless to try to sign up with a network.
You're not paying much attention here, are you?
Thousands of free viewers are not pointless.

On top of that using a webcomic host is free. Not everyone can afford their own domain and hosting. And not everyone is fluent in HTML.

>Especially since we live in a world where patreon exists.
You know several hosts offer Patreon integration, right?

>Unrelated question, do you have a website?
Use context clues. I'm upset with my comic host, so it should go without saying that I use a comic host, and don't have my own website.
