Logically, letting down the foal on the platform will not immediately snap its neck and give her time to save the foal in the fishboal and the one in the noose. Additionally, she can't hold up the board indefinitely, whereas rescuing the foal in the water can be saved from peril completely.

Pleasure Island wasn't for the kids. They were turned into donkeys for lonely womenless salt miners to use as a sexual surrogate and ease some of the stress of working in a salt mine. Those donkeys are too small to work but they're sturdy enough to take a cock up their ass and in their mouth over and over. They'll be exhausted by the end of the day.

Man I love how edgy Pinochio is. It's not even blood and T&A edgy but really puts characters through hell and has some controversial messages etc.
I wish more cartoons were like that these days. Edgy but not just with violence.
>>
>>88805736
Disney peaked with Fantasia and Pinocchio. Reminder they were made in the SAME YEAR. Dumbo was made to cover the losses of Fantasia and was still decent

After WWII Disney never got that magic back
>>
>>88805966
I usually maintain that it ended after Bambi, since Bambi has the same quality of animation that Fantasia and Pinnochio do.

Honorable mention to Sleeping Beauty.
>>
>>88806089
Oh yeah I keep forgetting Bambi was after Dumbo. How do I get into Bambi and Snow White? SW just seems too boring to me, and I didnt watch Bambi as a kid so the mother scene doesnt really mean much to me. Love Pino, Fantasia, Dumbo though
>>
>>88806142
Bambi is a coming of age story, the mother is small time compared to the fighting scene and fire finale.
>>
>>88803459
what's that label again? Some meme I've forgotten about?
>>
>>88794503
He was only getting rid of the little bastards who would grow up to be fucking criminals. The Coachman was doing Italy a service, if he was not hired by the Pope in the first place.
>>
>>88805966
Why do you think it never got it's magic back? Sure I dislike some modern Disney things like almost always having some wacky character that references pop culture but even those kind of things are done decently well and doesn't ruin stuff for me.

For me it's more technical. After seeing how incredible the studio was in the 30s and 40s, and seeing how it became xeroxed garbage until the 90s really bothers me. I'm sure the movies are fine otherwise, plots, music, themes etc. But back in the 30s they were painting on glass and doing incredible shit. The Schultheis notebook is literally hundreds of pages explaining how they were inventing new things all the time for the animations.
>>
>>88806278
Disney put an abnormal level of effort into their WWII movies in terms of technological advancements for the medium. Later films would still excel the medium, but not on the same magnitude.
>>
>>88794396
I honestly think the Queens transformation to the witch in Snow White was more traumatizing than Lampwik turning into a donkey.

Yeah what he said. Thousands of hours went into R&D for Fantasia and lesser so for the others, Pinocchio and Bambi. I reccomend the Lost Notebook, it really is great to see what the studio was up to from 1937-1942
>>
>>88806324
>>88806333
Yeah I get that. It's weird when in cartoons "The Golden Age" is actually kinda accurate as a description of an old period because of the animation quality.

Not much of an animation historian, what's the official reason animation quality took a dive in quality at whatever point? 50's? 60's? Was definitely in the dump by the 70's and still seems to have a big problem with that.except for the most expensive major stuff. Just money's the problem?
>>
>>88794396

Based movie.
>>
>>88806348
At least she wanted to do that, Lampwick was a dick but whenever kids cry for their mothers as they slowly lose speech and control of their body shit gets a little too real.
>>
>>88806650
Money, time, unions etc. Painting directly on glass slides is highest quality but very costly and time consuming, and you have to pay good artists etc.

When xeroxing came around in the late 50s now you could just copy those line drawings instead of redo-ing it one by one with ink and paint.

also into the 70s and 80s animation wasnt as high-held as it used to be so nobody was expecting fantasia-level quality then. long story short, it was cheaper and easier to cut corners on quality because unlike the 30s, disney had nothing to prove to the world. they could make mediocre (technically) films and still be loved.

IMO after Mermaid started the revival, Disney got the magic back with amazing mattes and colors for films like Beauty and the Beast, but sadly they lost it again in the 2000s when they went to digital and flash art. and ultimately 3D

pic related, I recently got BnB on Blu ray and it looks great

But it's like, shouldn't technology have evolved considerably so you can do today what you could 100 years ago but cheaper? Forget about Disney I just hate how practically every other 2D animation in recent history is kinda cheap.

its the same thing as the film vs digital debate. A single 35mm film image could therotically be enlarged to an 8K resolution with no loss.

Yet digital movies are still at 1K (1080). Yes digital has gotten better but early digital was pretty awful

Or for your /vr/ fans, making the jump from 2D 16-bit to 3D was a huge step backwards until 3D got better 10 years later

Yeah, Beauty and the Beast is special, because at the time, the animation department was small and in danger of closing, so all the best animators were working in a single building on a single film, with a real feeling of make it or break it. After it's success, the department got bigger, and all that talent was divided among multiple films, so the best of the best working on a single film never happened again.

No, see, that one would be "Treasure Island"

This scene scared me so much when I was a kid. I felt bad for him.

The origin on my TF fetish, good stuff. Transformation accelerated by sex/masturbation is the best kind.

I still find the whole thing pretty terrifying to think about.
Also, in the book Lampwick is seen later. He's exhausted from the work he's forced to do, and it ends up killing him.

Just going to school isn't true enlightenment. The people who really absorb the lessons and messages go on to do great things but there are tons of people who don't belong at school and are just going through the paces.

>Yeah I know Mermaid started the revival I just always get confused when exactly the golden age stopped and why it stopped.
Pocahontas, Hunchback, Hercules, Atlantis and others underperformed, whereas Toy Story and (while not Disney) Shrek made bank.

I mean, normally I would go 'the curtains were fucking blue' on this one, but it's a solid enough analysis, even if the allegory works from multiple philosophical perspectives.

That always bothered me as a kid, dude got away with it all.

Let's all relive early childhood trauma.
Or early childhood fetish.
Or both.

So how did they make sure that every kid they transformed was a delinquent and not some random kid that went to the fair with their parents? Surely a fair would attract pretty much everyone, not just jackasses.

Oh, how I want a sequel with Pinocchio as an adult fighting the coachman.

The whole point was that there are people out there willing to take advantage of misbehaving kids.
The fact that he would still be out there doing what he does gives more impact to that notion.

>>88815904
The fair was on an island and kids got there on a boat that shipped late at night, too late for any responsible parent let their kids go.

He is not the hero Italy wants, but the hero Italy needs.
A fat knight!

So he runs a non-profit organization then.
Providing nearby industry with beasts of burden and ridding the nearby society of street urchins and misbehaving kids who would become criminals or generally shitty people as they grew up.

Truly the coachman is the hero of humanity.

Destiny Islands and everyone on it got fixed after he beat Ansem, why would she be dead.
Remember Kairi and Selphie going to school on the main island during KH2?
