Kamala works as a concept because the whole idea is that a hero fangirl actually gets cape powers and has to learn responsibility while keeping it a secret from her family because she doesn't know how they will react due to her culture and religion, while not unique, can make an interesting character. And instead of beating the "progression" drum, Wilson made the series mainly sweet natured and funny and characterised Kamala a relatable dork who's not defined by her culture or religion but they are parts of her character and life. They even did a nice little spin on the mandatory Wolverine Team-Up (because this book needs sales, bub) where once Logan gets past the cringy fan girl. He advises her to help her community rather than be a big NY avenger. Then when the inevitable team up with Carol happens, Carol says the same thing. And it made her book unique and likeable.

Which becomes a problem when you take a character who was defined by her small town status and personal struggles who has much to learn then gets hotshotted to the Avengers because the book and character gets popular. And then she becomes an author mouthpiece under a different writer. And then people realise they don't like her because she's been written and used awfully and people turn on them. Hopefully Wilson and Amanat can bring it back to why the comic was so good in the first place and why people liked Kamala

Capatalising on memes and the popularity of Spider-Gwen, trying to middle finger Fox and trying to do a meta book at the same time.
