I wouldn't worry about it, I think RWBY is finally finding its 'true' structure with this volume; 3 volumes together forming a larger story arc. So right now we're laying the ground work for future stories that will be followed up on in volumes 5 and 6 of what I'm tentatively dubbing the "Haven arc" (with volumes 1 to 3 forming the "Beacon arc")

They need to start showing that Ruby is not a static character. She's acting and talking as if volume 1-3 never happened, especially the end of volume 3.

We still have 4 episodes after this. A lot of things can happen, provided that all episodes are at least 15 minutes long.

the wait between volumes is a fucking nightmare considering it doesn't feel like much is going to be wrapped up here. I'm sure the wait sucked for volume 2 into volume 3 as well, but there wasn't NEARLY as much going on at that point. I get that, but boy is it frustrating. "Menagerie" was volume 1 levels of length and content, and took up an entire episode "slot" in this season to give us information that easily could have been included in other episodes. Yang is one of the main protagonists of the series and has had MAYBE 5 minutes of screentime this volume. I love RWBY but it feels like this volume is stretching everything super thin.

I expected the show's budget to increase with it's popularity I guess. I mean, they're getting an official manga release, RWBY is one of the most popular RT productions, it airs on crunchyroll, there's tons of rwby stuff you can buy in the store. I admittedly don't know a lot about how to budget these things or how much it costs to make this show, but it doesn't feel like 22-25 minute long average episodes is that out of the realm of possibility. The show is changing in a way that it NEEDS more time to tell the story the way it needs to be told.

Jaune was fumbling with the shield and scabbard the entire first volume, and with the rumors of him having a strong Aura and he's "lucked out" whenever there's a threat of death or serious harm, Jaune still makes it out unscathed. It is our their realm. They are still working on volume 4. I'm not talking about polishing finished things, but actually working and finishing. They should have done that ages ago. They should already be planning for volume 5. They worked and finished the special effects for episode 1 of volume 4 just hours before it aired! It took them over 2 weeks of over 10 hour work days just to barely finish a rugged volume 4 trailer to show at a con.

It pretty much is out of their realm of budget due to the sheer cost associated with 3d animation. Someone posted a summary of what the costs per second of animation are based on a dreamworks level of production in a previous thread, but I forgot to save it. Suffice to say, good quality 3d animation costs in the multiple thousands of dollars per second of finished animation. Coupled with that, you have the non-contract nature of RT. They don't fire their animation team at the end of a season like many animation houses now do. Ultimately, until some massive angel investor comes in and dumps a shitton of dosh on them, they're not going to be increasing episode length any time soon.

I'm going to level with you, the scale of the maps we've been shown is, at best, utterly fucked. Even assuming Menagerie is about the same size as Australia, that doesn't leave a huge amount of land to live on, and that's before you start considering farms and the like. That and we have no metric for what's considered over crowded on Remnant, for all we know a city of a few million is considered large, or its the opposite and Menagerie is just under pressure from new arrivals not current inhabitants.

We know the world itself must be fairly big if they've been walking for so long without real progress. I've just been assuming it's standard fantasy setting population where it will never really make sense.

Logically people would filter into the safest areas, and the urbanize them over time to the extent defenses would allow. Plus there's a very cyberpunk edge to the idea of a city the size of France that's as densely populated as say New York or Tokyo
