well, the episode ended with the NRA saving their asses and giving them a stern talking to, so they might have changed her mind

In most situations I'd say anyone should be able to have a gun, but in this situation Homer's a fucking idiot, he could hurt someone and he was shown to use it improperly (by preforming many household tasks with it)
>>
>>88747632
Absolute bullshit. Homer just like everyone else should be able to own guns
>>
>>88747576
>NRA

Wasn't it the Springfield gun club?

>>88747545
He's had that shotgun for a while hasn't he?
>>
>>88747576
Hilariously that scene was why the NRA got butthurt about the episode cause it made them look like a bunch of vigilante gun nuts
>>
>>88747506

It was technically a good idea at the time, what with all the violence very close to their house, but as it is, Homer is retarded.

That doesn't really make marge right though, as she was just arguing against the gun, not specifically against homer using it.
>>
>>88747776
I guess the truth hurts.
>>
>>88747797
Spotted the Hillary supporter. You have to go back.
>>
>>88747753
I think Homer is the perfect example of why not everyone should be allowed to own guns. Whenever I hear about people getting shot by their toddlers or dogs, I assume they're a moron like Homer was in this episode.
>>
>>88747522
>>
>>88747753

Homer wasn't to be trusted with a gun, he literally broke every single safety rule possible and imaginable, and it's not like his gunbuddies were any better.

In the end it's better for Marge to have kept it, she's an actual adult who can handle it safely, unlike Homer.

I will never understand America and gun rights. I've seen responsible gun owners actually be in favor of say, preventing terrorists from entering the country. But suddenly if they're already in the country, restricting them from getting a gun is going too far. Just makes absolutely no sense to me.

American value their right to own a deadly weapon more than the lives of their fellow citizens. Never mind the fact that the rights they cite for gun ownership were established when there was still a good chance they could be invaded and re-colonized by the British, no, putting more safety regulations in place for such a dangerous item is socialism.

Marge was, for once, in the right. Owning a gun is something you need to talk about with the rest of your family. It's a dangerous, not to mention expensive, thing, and just having one in their house exponentially increases the likelihood of someone getting hurt or dying.
That's not even getting into the fact that Homer spend half the episode proving he didn't have the maturity to own one. I get 4chan is filled to the brim with /k/omrades, but even you guys have to admit this was a bad idea.
>>
>>88747882

Didn't Moe have a shotgun and four pistols connected to a single trigger through string which fired randomly? I don't remember that being very safe. Or was it a different episode?
>>
>>88748047
Same episode but he wasn't using it to turn off his tv or waving it in other people's faces, he just wanted to overkill the next punk who tried to rob his bar, or deadbeat who wouldn't pay their tab
>>
>>88747807
>>88747826
If you mean that Marge shouldn't let Homer own a gun because he's an idiot then I agree. But if you mean that there should be some sort of law preventing Homer from owning a gun then that's absolutely bullshit.
>>
>>88747506
Surely even Amiercans agree that idiots shouldn't own guns.
>>
>>88748019
The existing laws are already stringent enough.
Research before you talk eurocuck, and be sure to watch out for those deadly assault trucks.
>>
>>88747753
Homer is a moron. He's proof that not everyone should have a firearm.
>>
>>88747506
Marge was obviously in the right because from beginning to end it was just Homer being a retard with the gun. Like it wasn't even a question of the legitimacy of gun laws or best protecting their home or whatever (they half-assed an opening so Homer could claim it was for safety but that's never an issue for the rest of the episode); it was literally just Homer being an irresponsible crazy idiot.

Also even when Marge and the kids leave him he only becomes disappointed because the guys in the NRA tell him off. And even when he uses the unloaded gun to defend his family at the end, which maybe could've been him trying to compromise on the issue of having the gun, Marge is mad because he lied to her again about having the gun. He just compulsively lies to her the entire episode.

But even all this is irrelevant because Marge takes the gun for herself at the end because it makes her look cool. And it's obviously a joke but it just makes the whole thing feel meaningless. I guess they were both wrong.

I remembered this episode being at least good (hadn't seen it in maybe over 10 years because no Simpsons in syndication) but I rewatched it recently and was just disappointed.

If you're going to won a gun and you have kids, at least tell the children what a gun is and why they should stay away. As far as household gun ownership is involved, Ignorance is more dangerous than fear.
>>
>>88748374
But he didn't create any new taxes, he just substantially changed the percentage value of existing taxes, so technically he was being honest!
>>
>>88748185
They were both wrong, Homer for being an absolute retard with his firearm, and Marge for being against it for no good reason. She even cited the proven Brady Campaign lie of you being five times more likely to shoot a family member than an intruder.
>>
>>88748361

Idiots can only legally operate automobiles on public roads after they have passed a test proving their fitness for the task. No such rules exist for guns.

>>88748418
Ironic shitposting is still shitposting.
>>
>>88748395
I don't remember why Marge was initially against it offhand so it's definitely possible they first had her against it, because she does tend to protest things a lot even when she's in the wrong.

But by the time Homer is just shooting random shit around the house and hiding it in a place where Bart finds it and nearly blows Milhouse's brains out, Marge is right that he shouldn't have had it, doesn't matter why she was against it at first.

I could see how maybe they tried to balance different views on gun ownership, but if that's so they went too far with Homer and not far enough with Marge.
>>
>>88748402
>No such rules exist for guns.

Oh how wrong you are.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concealed_carry_in_the_United_States

Almost every state requires you to have a license to carry a concealed weapon in public. You also have to pass a background check to purchase the firearm in the first place. No such check is necessary to purchase an automobile, provided you pay cash, and and tell the dealer and DMV that you're only going to operate it on private property.

Marge was against it because it was dangerous. Then for the sake of the plot, Bart became more retarded than usual and suffered amnesia and forgot what a gun is and that they kill people when you shoot them at people, just to make Marge's unfounded and sudden worrying valid.

This whole episode is full of characters acting extremely stupid just because the plot needs them to. Kind of like the Frank Grimes episode. Hmm, I think I see a pattern here regarding unpopular episodes...
>>
>>88747545
The Simpsons constantly change shit like that based on gags.
In one episode Homer keeps a sawn off in the bathroom and Marge doesn't really care.
>>88747506
Homer. But only because he's an idiot not because gun ownership is bad. Then Marge is a total hypocrite in the end but she'd definitely be a better gun owner than Homer.
>>88748392
To be fair....Bart is Bart.
>>
It was a retarded episode, like every episode after season 8 (and most of them after season 5, the last truly great season)
>>
>>88748047

I don't remember that at all. Must've been when I stopped watching.
>>

>hurr durr he is going against the common consensus/disagreeing with my opinion? m-m-must be bait!

Fuck off! Season 6, to me, just didn't feel as inspired as 2-5, and was rarely as funny. 7-8 had a lot of episodes that felt forced and lame (minus a few quality exceptions), and the tone had just become too different from the golden years, and just kind of boring as well.

9-12 have too many problems to list, and I stopped watching for good a few episodes into 13, so I can't comment beyond that.

Marge.

Even if you agree with her viewpoint, at the end of the episode she goes against everything that she said prior to that point and keeps the gun for herself.

But it's the Simpsons, and shouldn't be taken seriously.
>>
>>88747522
this. the episode sucked. How Mike Scully ever got to be showrunner is beyond me. He sucked dick at it.
>>
>>88748046
if you actually treat "Homer is stupid" gags with real-world logic, than he's legitimately clinically retarded and the following are also fucked up: Marge having sex with him, his being allowed to procreate, his job at the power plant, his ownership and operation of a vehicle, him being left alone with the children

Two and a half million total in 2016. Pretty sure that's a pathetically small amount of money, as far as lobbying goes. There are lobbying groups that spend more than that per senator they want in their pocket.

the ability to speak english is immaterial, most major signs are posted by shape and color and are basically the same the world over - for example the STOP sign, which is that particular shape regardless of what country you're in so that if it should be covered by snow or dust it's still recognizable

speed limits are also easily recognizable as such and only really require you to know whether they're in mph or kph, which is also usually immaterial as your vehicle will most likely have the speedo in the same units

etc etc with turns, prohibitions, markings etc

but the most damning point against the argument you're making is of course that if they're licensed, then they understand the rules of the road, because they passed the test and their language of choice is absolutely irrelevant to that fact

whether they then follow those rules is up to them (personal responsibility, state's rights, don't tread on me etc) but i think we all know enough people who can't drive for shit despite having passed a test and owned and operated vehicles for decades that we're all aware that idiocy is not the preserve of any race or nation
>>
They were both wrong. Homer shouldnt own a gun because hes a fucking idiot and doesnt follow proper gun safety. Marge was also wrong because of her irrational fear of a firearm. No gun has ever jumped off a table and killed someone.
