Yeah they're setting it up more as a science experiment gone wrong. Manhattan's been meddling in the timeline, and as a result (unintended or not) it removed these relationships and important pieces of history that has negatively affected the New 52 continuity.

What if the ending of this big story arc is DC ending it all. Like, they just hit the cosmic delete button and erase EVERYTHING. Every single concept, character, story, whatever. All gone. And then they just start over entirely with a brand new line of characters in a new world separate from the old one?

I don't think he physically gave up his old memories since I'm pretty sure the solicits for when he and Supes meet talk about them recognizing each other. It's more like he gave up his emotional attachment to them, his memories of what's basically a past life were holding him back.

Similar thing happened with Superman in the annual. He was kinda subconsciously rejecting this world and so was out of tune with it and Swamp Thing helped him. Supes didn't give up his memories, but they're no longer stopping him from accepting this Earth.

A lot of legacies add noghing new to there franchise and rely heavily on everything established by there predecessor.Wally was different in that he introduced new concepts(Speedforce),new characters(Bart,Max,Jessie,Zolomon,Savitar) and his actual growth from love struck teen to loving devoted husband who always finds a way made him incredibly endearing.Wally had all the ingredients for a memorable and likable main character and thanks to some great runs(Barry unfortunately hasn't had a really GREAT run) just makes him a unique flash.All those things are why some people consider him THE flash while Bart who also became the flash isn't considered to have been nearly as good,he lacked all of the above

Superman and Lois are legitimately from the pre-Flashpoint timeline. They got plucked out of the timestream by Braniac and are the survivors of it.

The Titans, even Wally, are all from Post-Flashpoint. They've been rebooted and don't have memories of the previous timeline like Lois and Clark. Wally is the exception, as the Speed Force gave him some memories, but they've basically boiled any potential narrative in that to "MUH LINDA" and this last issue of Titans was him giving up that last bit.

So now he's just New 52 Wally West at this point.
