Its not just writers, its pretty much everyone who portrays any behaviour. They're not acting/writing about actual behaviour, they are acting/writing about behaviour cliches that they observed in other media. So Behaviour that is shown in cliche teen drama #234 is based of cliche teen drama#12, and so on and so forth, with each new portrayal basing itself not upon real teenage behaviour, but upon earlier portrayals of of Teenage behaviour.

Because other than having a vagina, one of the main thing that differentiated Supergirl from Superman was that she actually lived in Krypton and has memories there. I'd accept it if this was an Elseworld where Clark's a teenage girl in the present, but Kara? It just doesn't work for me. Also, we have had the fucking "Teenage Clark has no idea what the fuck his powers are" story for the nth time
>>
>>
>>88725988
>>88726008
They are just retelling superman. Swapped her origin with his. its bizarre.

>>88725272
Considering that Dolly Parton is county music's biggest feminist and a huge supporter of LGBT causes, they probably should've named this "badass dyke" something else
>>
>>
The end, hope you guys enjoyed.
>>
>>88726138
>>88725875
Man this happened in the preview too and I don't get how you don't get it. They're not insulting Dolly Parton, it's just that she isn't Dolly Parton. They aren't saying the dyke is any more important or right than the traditional country girl - it's just that Kara has two friends, one conventional and one unconventional, and both of them appear more sure of themselves than she is. In all likelihood, they are just as unsure of themselves but that's not what she sees.
>>
It was an okay beginning. Thanks OP

Yeah it was alright. I'm not getting triggered by the comic like a lot of anons ITT seem to be, but it was a bit boring and slow for a first issue. It's clearly being written for the trade.

Thanks for posting.
>>
>>88726100
I think a Supergirl story with no Superman could work, like have it be her that landed with the Kents and Kal never even getting to Earth. If she still kept her basic elements like remembering Krypton and her family, it'd be neat seeing where it goes since it is a world without Superman and while Superman was a true blue Kansas boy, Supergirl isn't and it'd be interesting to see how she'll fit in into Clark's life without any of the "Woe is me I'm an Alien how can I ever even be Human, my parents lied to me, and my real family is dead all this time"

>>88726123
I know that, but it's just Female Clark from American Alien, there's nothing Supergirl about this other than the blonde hair and the vagina. I don't think the book itself is bad though, it just feels like American Alien if Superman had a vagina instead.
>>
>>88725648
>why women shouldn't write capes, period.jpg
>>
>>88726030

Actually yes. Maybe I just read people a little too much, but there's usually vocal and visual tics and cues, emotional and conversational flow that gives away how comfortable people are with each other.

There's some of that here but it's halfassed which makes it feel less genuine.
>>
>>88726197
American Alien is only in Clark's hometown for a couple of issues though, right? I can see why they'd greenlight that pitch anyway because American Alien was a big success.

>>88726216
You're retarded if you think gross-out moments are somehow exclusive to women writers, or to capes in general.
>>
>>88725648

I think I loved this? I know Kara being a true Kryptonian is a big part of what differentiates her from Clark, but it also makes her a weirdo alien that's hard to identify with. I empathize with this Kara, which might be a first for me.

I'm also a huge mark for the classic pastoral Superman origin, so this had me from the word go.

Why do girls write such boring superhero stories?

Assuming the author is a girl of course.
>>
Feels like a waste of Jones, but I guess I'm not surprised.

>>88731766
>pretty much smallville 2

I think this is the reason. But my biggest issue with the show is that it shows her after she's been on Earth for 10 years instead of immediately with the landing. The interesting part of the Supergirl concept is her learning about Earth and the society and all. Just seeing her after she's dealt with it all is pointless.

Because they always feel the need to self insert or push an identity politics agenda. There's some good female writers out there like Ann Nocenti and Louise Simonson, but they're few and far in between.
>>
>>88732108
Superheroes are a masculine concept, women who aren't tomboys in some way aren't going to write stories about them that can hold your interest.

Fuck, Male Writer do that as much.

In a lot of cases, especially for DC comics, Cape comic are power fantasy. So of course it appeal for this kind of writing.

Excpet it has always been a thing. Comic book aren't bad because of that. they are bad because they are badly written.
>>
So I take it from this replies this is the first time there has ever been DC female superhero that dealt with common female problems?
>>
>>88727217
I was wondering the same thing. No way DC doesn't get some blowback for it, even if it is from the usual suspects everyone worth a shit ignores.
