Rip in peace Leia. Episode 8/9 impact predictions?
>>
>>88712165
To be fair, Carrie probably would've wanted us to laugh. She would never have wanted everyone to be sad. And she hated Trump, so that's not entirely inappropriate.
>>
>>88712185
She's already finished filming everything for episode 8 from what i've read.

They'll probably kill her off during some huge battle or a base being destroyed in 9. Either off screen or CGI'd like young Leia in RO
>>
>>88712185
Ep. 8 already wrapped. Ep. 9, I have honestly no clue what to expect. I assume Disney has contingencies for this sort of thing.
>>
>>88711785
What did she mean by this?
>>
>>88712185
She finished her scenes for 8 already, the impact will be in episode 9 unless they somehow fabricate Leia's death in 8.

Mark didn't even post much, he was tighy with Carrie so if they work a scene with Luke reacting to her death that shit will be real.

Also Luke losing both Han and Leia is just heartbreaking.

Based Finn
Rey did friendzone and leave him while he was a in a coma after all.
Going to a casino planet to burn off some feels and get chicks seems like something he needs.

I bet he and Poe goes there and are awkwardly trying to pick up girls just to "seem cool" to on another trying to hide that it's actually each other that they want

I walked into the theater with my phone's brightness turned all the way down so I could shitpost WE WUZ KANGZ and #BLACKED memes in real time, but they were honestly the best part of the movie.

Though if /tv/ is to be believed at all (I'm not convinced it ever should be,) then they're going to have Finn fall in love with some tsundere Asian grill that may or may not be a spy.

Though I'm happy they're possibly giving him his own storyline. Rey just doesn't cut it as it stands. She ever needs to be full Revan mindwipe or go dark. Whether she finds redemption or not isn't important, what matters is the arc.

Finn has an arc, FinnxPoe has an arc, and now the /are Carrie/ is in Valhalla, they're the only interesting arcs left besides Luke unless something changes.

Probably
It's such a shame. I don't think they need to create a new character to have a love interest for Finn, since Poe is such a good choice.
But I guess Disney/Lucasfilm/KK just aren't "bold" enough to actually go through with it.

I think, if you want to talk about representation male to male homosexuality isn't very well represented.

Female to female is easy, because for some reason that's more accepted. Just look at what Blizzard did with Tracer. Her being "gay" is just a marketing ploy, Blizz don't give a shit what their characters sexual preference is, but it's good bait for those who do.

Well shit.

Most of R1 was absolute shit, but doing ballsy shit like making the ending literally Saving Private Ryan in Space proves that SW is by no means bound to the OT formula when it's handled properly.

So they're going to have to reshoot some VIII scenes, right? If they planned on having her survive into IX. I can't picture them not having reaction scenes to her death or just mentioning it in IX's opening crawl. And even Disney isn't dumb enough to do CGI Leia for IX so soon after her death.

After seeing he film again with a friend, it really is striking how much RO brings to the Star Wars mythos compared to TFA. RO had the Hammerhead, Death Troopers, even force sensitive people who aren't Jedi. I thought it added a lot, but so many people are just shitting on it. Meanwhile, TFA's new ships are all blocks and Starkiller base. Fuck, they didn't even have Y-Wings in TFA!

I mean, a lot of what RO "brought" was already canon in other media.

But I see what you are saying, it actually tried to contribute and expand on the franchise, as well as giving spotlight to the lesser-known or exposed stuff.

Whereas TFA just threw X-Wings at our faces and expected us to clap

I don't want Kylo to die in episode IX. Too much of a Vader ending if he goes good again/anti-climax if he stays bad. I want him to go into exile and do his own stuff between trilogies. They could easily have a cartoon or novel or spin off movie about that. They could even have all three.

I wonder what they will do know for Episode VIII. They already have all the scenes they need from Leia? If not, I guess they will have to say something to explain Leia's demise. Possibly, she got ill because of Han's death at hands of his own son.

Ironically, don't you think? Harrison Ford is still alive, but Han solo is death. While Leia is alive, but Carrie Fisher is dead.

They should make a TFA: Special Edition where CG Leia hugs Chewie instead of Rey.
>>

I think we just might towards the end of eight.

Rey gets trapped in a Dark Side focused place.

Snoke draws upon those feelings of abandonment and anger she's suppressed and starts drawing that out.

She see's a projection of her parents walking away from her as she calls out for them to come back. They walk on till she lashes out with her lightsaber wildly cutting at the air as the projections vanish.

Keeps slashing as the next passage opens up and she runs towards it only to be swallowed by further darkness.

Ends with her screaming into the darkness.

You don't know what the phrase "at one's expense" means.

The joke was at Trump's expense, not Carrie's. Carrie was very vocal about her dislike of Trump.

I dislike Trump. If I died today, I actually would be glad I never had to see him be president. Carrie likely would've said the same thing, given her great dislike of him.

I have a feeling that anyone who disagrees with you has low standards in your eyes.

Vader is also much older and much more immersed in the dark side. Then there's Anakin, who's closer to where Kylo Ren is now. You can't just ignore the PT because it's convenient.
>>
>>88716649
You're purposely being retarded. He looks virtually identical to Anakin down to the scars and pale skin. Even the shape of the head is correct. The breathing apparatus is straight from Vader's suit.

>I wonder if force ghosts eventually just fuck off and literally become one with the force.
No, that's not how it works.

Force Ghosts aren't waiting to fulfill some sort of purpose.

Normally, when living things die, their Living Force feeds into the Cosmic Force and becomes one with it. Qui-Gon, Yoda, and Obi-Wan have all learned how to preserve their consciousness in The Force upon death. They basically stopped their consciousness from being lost forever to the Cosmic Force. As far as how Anakin became a Force Ghost, we don't exactly have a 100% canon answer. Dave Filoni knows why, but isn't going to tell us yet. The Databank on the SW website says that his selfless sacrifice to save his son allowed Yoda and Obi-Wan to preserve his consciousness.

They don't HAVE to, as >>88718459 points out, however we don't know what rules they are bound by. We do not know if they are eternal, if they are stuck as they are and cannot simply disperse their consciousness either by choice or because they've fulfilled whatever purpose their life after death served.

There's definitely rules as >>88718389 points out. Obi-Wan himself had to tell Luke he couldn't interfere either. Best I can infer is that they are allowed to play a passive role however life is for the living. They can guide and influence, but they cannot just do things on their own. Ultimately the living must act to do or do not. I say "living" however it could just be that they are servitors of fate, not fate itself. It was Luke's destiny to face on his own.
>>
>>88715037
I agree. The only people who should give a damn are her family. Every one else is a poser.

She's dead. You loved her. I didn't. So what? She did a good job in a few movies. I think her best role was in "When Harry met Sally". But face it, she was into booze and drugs and it caught up with her. It made her old before her time and finally killed her off. Surprise kids! Pumping shit into your system really will kill you! Or worse, it' will make you an old hag before it kills you. And in Hollywood, dying ugly is a sin. Oh wait... in the minds of obsessive fan boys, it's also betrayal.

The novels toned Starkiller down substantially.

Sam Witwer had an interesting commentary on the matter when he streamed himself playing the force unleashed. The powers of characters should always be taken wit a grain of salt. When a videogame character or a cartoon does something over the top we can take it at face value, but in live action it would break suspension of disbelief.

I'd add that the Nightsister specters we've seen do not, I would argue, represent true Dark Side "ghosts". While we don't know what they are, exactly, or how they are made, we do know they were bound to a location for the purpose of serving the Sisterhood, even after death, working to revive it. A Sith would never submit to such a state. The Kanan one could use the Force but the Sabine one had no observable powers (beyond some wacky wall crawling). Even then they couldn't leave the bounds of that cave. A Sith wouldn't stand being a virtual prisoner like that, stuck with no body, and if they manage to possess someone still bound to a location and reliant on any powers of the shell they inhabit rather than their own abilities. Such a condition would surely be untenable to a Sith.
>>

Chirrut wanted to help Jyn. Nothing else going for him, he links himself to a cause. Baz had nobody else to hang with besides his friend, so he ended up dragged only wherever Chirrut wanted to go. Of course it helps that they were captured by Saw's people, thrown in prison with Cassian and escaped with him. Afterward Chirrut just kept along with the others.

This is a mythological trope.

Why does the OT get a pass for everything it (intentionally) apes from folklore but the PT does not?

When I forst saw ROTS I knew exactly what the vibe was.
Padme dies like she does because SW is a myth.

Think about it. Chirrut keeps a sliver of Kyber Crystal in his staff so he can sense where the tip is. He's Force Sensitive but he cannot "use" the Force. No powers beyond his senses.

So before the Empire he could FEEL the Temple of the Whills. The place was alive with the Force. After the Empire moved in they started ripping the temple apart and harvesting the Kybers. The Temple died.

Then along comes Jyn and immediately he senses the Kyber necklace she wears. It must feel familiar to him, like home.He latches onto her cause over Saw's because she has the necklace.

I don't know if that's kind of cute or sad. Feels like both.

It's not a problem in the films, because it's not the focus, plus
1. they don't have a choice, they need an army
2. Obi Wan says that "I have to admit that without the clones it would not have been a victory"
3. by ROTS they had been fighting with these guys for 3 years

But why in the EU or Disney EU (TCW etc) does no one make a bigger deal out the fact that the template for the clone army was seen with the leader of the separatists on Geonosis?

Again, it's not the focus of the films, and George makes it clear that the Jedi know they are in a tough spot (see point 2 above).

But why does supplementary media downplay this?

Vader can take questioning. He did in ANH. He doesn't have tolerance for incompetence or presumptuous turds like Krennic who also already crossed his husbando Tarkin.

Vader doesn't need to give any shits about Aphra's talking as long as she's no threat and useful. It's why he acquired her in the first place. Her worst failure was failing to capture Luke for him and then being caught herself. Her worst move period was tattling on him to the Emperor.

Canon is dictated by the Lucasfilm Story Group, who began as an initiative in 2012 and officially became a thing in 2013. They work with authors, filmmakers, developers, etc to make sure what they create aligns with Canon.

>Doesn't sound like anything post buyout is canon, really.
Lucasfilm made the decision to wipe out all of the old books, comics, games. This was planned all the way back in summer of 2012, before the buyout happened.

The only things to remain canon were the things that George was directly involved in: Episodes 1-6 and TCW. One comic that was based on an unmade arc of TCW(Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir) also remained canon. Everything else released before April 25, 2014 is not canon. This includes SWTOR, despite new expansions releasing.

Unless specified otherwise, everything released after April 25, 2014 is officially Canon.

She didn't make droids. She first came to Vader's attention because she upgraded some Droideka with missile launchers and Vader decided he wanted to rely on a droid army for his personal forces. He chose her because her work impressed her. Triple-Zero and Beetee were both created as part of the Tarkin Initiative. Imperial scientists. She merely found a way to finally gain control over them since their creators fucked that up and paid the price.

She has a skillset he desires. He came to her. She was his first choice. You're surprised he doesn't just kill her the moment an excuse presents itself?

When was she the leader? And her fighting skills were killing two low level space gimps, big whoop. She ends up running repeatedly from fights with actual soldiers/a Dark Sider and only wins because that's the way the Force rolls with main characters.

Also when did she ever fly better than Han? She hadn't even flown outside of Jakku until the movie and it was Han's super awesome piloting that saved them from the Rathtars/gangs and were the only ones super awesome enough to bypass to Starkiller Base's shield and somehow still land. And Finn not being as good with a lightsaber? It's not like they trained for that. He couldn't even take TR-8R with it. Blame JJ for removing and then returning the blaster he gave Finn between scenes.

And though I hate to knock Chewie he spent the entirety of ESB unable to fix the Falcon, with help. Rey "fixed" it by just ripping out a component that both she and Han had already identified would be a problem.

How the fuck would she know what a mind trck is?
Luke had to see Obi-Wan use it first, and it still took him till ROTJ to use it.

>Also when did she ever fly better than Han?
She out maneuvers 2 TIEs in a fucking freighter, threading needles through star destroyers like at the end of RotJ, on her literal first ever time behind the controls, when her only previous piloting experience was driving fucking landspeeders. It's like getting a lisence to drive a motorized scooter, then hopping in a 747 on a whim and immediately proceeding to not only avoid killing yourself but also doing loop-the-loops around pursuing F15s while steering it through the grand canyon at max speed.

How do you know she doesn't know what the Mind Trick is? She's aware of the Jedi, she just thought they were a myth. Then Han tells her it is true, all of it. Now she'll believe a Jedi can do anything no matter how impossible. Luke, on the other hand, had too much of his uncle in him. He cannot do things he thinks are impossible, and they are impossible because he believes them to be. Rey is literally the opposite.

Even then we don't see her use the Jedi Mind Trick. No hand waving. She just invades a mind with the Force as was just done to her, and as she managed to reverse on Kylo Ren. Even then it took her several tries.

Even if she's heard of it, there's more to it than just knowing it's a thing. Heir to the Jedi actually played with this- Luke waves his hand to try to mind trick someone and when it doesn't work he realizes he has no idea what he's doing and just thought waving his hand like Ben did would do the trick.

How did she ever outmaneuver them? She never lost them. She kept wrecking crap. She tried to trick them into crashing once and it failed. Finn shot down one but her flying got Finn's gun fucked up. Flying into that SSD turned out to be a huge mistake given we saw the TIE able to target her because she has no room to maneuver - and this was after Finn told her to fly low because it fucks with their targeting. She ends up getting the Falcon shot several more times because of this, groans, "Oh no" and has to ditch the SSD. Her big trick was lining up Finn's shot which she doesn't even know how she did. But we do given this was her first indication of Force Sensitivity.

And yet again - I don't know how you people still exist that haven't learned this yet - she flat out says in the movie it wasn't her first time flying.

I like how people keep bitching about Rey being competent. We've had too many fucking protagonists in the last thirty years who suck at everything or are shit people for the sake of "realism."

The movie had plenty of fucking problems like uninteresting side characters (Poe/Maz), obvious twists which were a lame reversal of the greatest twist of all time, rehashing too many plot elements from the original film, etc.
>>
>>88720540
>can literally tell you how to use itself if it wants you to.
That's never been how the Force works. It van guide you but you have to know how to let it do that- that's the entire point of requiring training to use it. It doesn't just magically give you superpowers out of the blue for no reason.
>>
>>88720559

That's not the complaint at all.
It's that her competence is not earned.
>>
>>88720534
Sure. Nu Canon is full of people using the Force on instinct. Ezra performed a Force Jump just by watching Kanan do it and he didn't even know about the Force yet. He also performed a Force Push on instinct to save Zeb before Kanan taught him anything. In fact it was this display that convinced Kanan to take Ezra's training seriously. Similarly Ventress as a kid instinctively used a Force Push to kill some pirate threatening the Jedi who would become her Jedi Master after he witnessed her powers.

>>
>>88720591
Considering not all of those abilities were even something they saw but just something they were able to do on instinct, that is exactly how the Force works.

And if you've been following Pablo it's how the Force works for everyone, not just Force Users. Everyone has the Force inside them, even the normies, and they can have subconscious access to it. It can tell them about things and aid them. And you don't even need to acknowledge it. Han's luck and skill have foundation in the Force.

Jesus, anons. It didn't matter what he was telling Luke. That is WHY he put down the blast visor. Luke wasn't picking up shit, he had to feel it for himself, so Obi-Wan created a circumstance where the boy had to listen to the Force and be guided by it.

Telling did shit. The Force itself was the key.

>>88720625
Hurling a full grown and armored man several feet is a simple technique? That's a fairly significant display of power and we've seen it more than once from different characters.

The fact that the Force could guide her to fight and somehow not help her out invading one man's mind when she'd already had some firsthand experience with mental intrusion isn't even a stretch here. And that's before we factor in the Stormtrooper because the difficulty of the trick relies, in part, on the mental strength of the target.
>>

Luke's wasn't either. He was impatient with Yoda's training and never finished it. He ended up just doing shit on his own, and told Yoda and Obi-Wan that their ways were retarded. It completely turned the "listen to the wise master" cliche on it's head."

Nigga Luke is my favorite character, fuck you. But if Rey didn't earn shit neither did Luke.

I don't see how either of them has to "earn" it by whatever arbitrary definitions you have. Not every character needs to struggle with something six hundred times to master some technique. There's other, less cliche ways of character development. Again, Rey being good at shit was the least of the film's problems. It was one of the few things it did right.

In Legends they could exist but they were bound to things, they could not manifest whereever they chose they needed to hitchhike on a living host or possessed object that they cannot travel too far from. Also they could be blocked by certain materials, like the Mando Iron encasing the tomb of Fredonn Nadd limiting how well his force whispers could be heard at a distance while also doubling as a good way of delaying any fool trying to cut their way in with a lightsaber (This wellllll predates Travis before you say mandowank, and the "Dampening" effect isn't directly stated, just implied and doubled down on on the Essential Guide to Planets and Moons that mentioned one of the theories behind Ysalamiri was their bodies utilizing trace molecules of Mando Iron in the trees they ate from. Meaning there was some observed in-universe connection between Mando Iron and force-disruption. It's actually an interesting case of how off-hand mentions and vague implications in one story would get exaggerated or expanded on in other works which snowballed to the point that some things just got silly..)

New Canon? No, they cannot. The closest was Maul's ghostmom. Sith Selfishness inevitably denies them the eternity that they want most of all.

THere were two or three scenes that were off. When K2 threw a stormtrooper it looked REALLY jarring, and I think the pasting of the deathtroopers into their transport as they joined the fight on Scarif looked a little awkward, other than that nothing was especially jarring.

ROTJ is even better when you realize Yoda basically told Luke, "Nah, you don't need any more training. You're fine, you'll have fun. Enjoy your destiny."

Imagine how during the credits sequence Luke stalked over to Yoda's ghost and shouted, "You said I was ready! He was shooting goddamn lightning from his fingers! I peed my pants and that just made the lightning conduct around my wiener! It's still numb! Then I had to cry until my dad beat up the bully for me"

Maybe next time your wise master tells you not to fuck off and save your friends but complete your training, you shut the fuck up and do what you're told.

>First, Disney EU is inaccurate. It's just Canon.
Not exactly true, Something can be Canon AND EU, because if it's not on the silver screen it's EU, even if it is carefully integrated to not need different canon tiers between EU and Movies. EU just means "Shit most Normies don't see because it's not in the theater/home release" even if there is careful work to make it all line up. Because it Expands the Universe beyond the silver screen.

"EU" was a terrible concept to begin with, designed to just shrug away plot holes and inconsistencies in licensed media. It didn't really matter to George Lucas whether or not Star Wars the NES game was canon. Of course it wasn't. But some autist would pretend decades later it existed on some sort of psuedo-canon so he could write a wikipedia article about some pixelated enemy from the game.

It either is canon, or it is not. Period. This is like calling Clone Wars, Rebels, and Rogue One 'expanded universe' simply because it isn't a numbered sequel.

Often the licensed media created plot holes and inconsistencies (LIKE REMEMBER WHEN JAR JAR BINK'S FATHER COMMITTED SUICIDE? GREAT TIMES! AND SURELY CANON ENOUGH FOR WOOKIEPEDIA!), which resulted in the various levels of canon being created needlessly.

We didn't need 30 mins of Luke as a kid learning to pilot ships or work on droids and we don't need it for Rey either. Nobody wants to watch that when many more interesting things can be shown.

Even Luke's training on Dagobah was minimal and he didn't learn much there. It only served the purpose of creating tension when Luke was forced to either stay there and finish, endangering his friends, or rescue his friends, endangering himself and leaving his training unfinished. We didn't need to see Luke finish his fucking training between ESB and RotJ.

That includes George R. Binks

They were only saying that about a handful of the Tales stories that DID eventually make tehir way into canon, like that one mercenary guy who lost his son to a Dark Jedi and went around the galaxy using the Dark Jedi's lost lightsaber to pretend to be a Jedi. He later showed up in either Empire or Rebellion. Or that Wedge comic that showed how he eventually joined the rebellion (And briefly turned into Jackie Chan, actually I think even that one was listed as questionably canon to legends.) Even after that he wasn't the greatest teacher. If Star Wars fans think that makes him a Mary Sue, then Star Wars fans are far dumber and nitpickier than I already knew they were, which is saying a fucking lot.

Kyle's only "Mary Sue" qualities is that he's a video game character and is as good as the player is at shooting or abusing force mechanics on the AI.

I don't need to, the creator of the series holds more sway over than you, just because you're criticizing one of the least flawed parts of a highly flawed movie (TFA) doesn't change that.

Enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvJDItC6tE0

And he does it all without the Force (except apparently subconsciously).

Later he engages a Star Destroyer heads on and survives. Really it is just no fucking contest. In ROTJ Lando successfully navigates the innards of the Death Star II and escapes before it explodes, only losing the radar dish. That was a helluva lot more impressive than Rey's less than a minute in an SSD's engine.

Rogue One sucked because if you remove the fantasy element Jedi, Sith, the Force and Lightsabers you're left with a blander version of series that have done the sci-fi battles and space western thing better, like Mass Effect of Firefly.
Slow moving lasers that can be easily dodged, impractical vehicles like the AT-ATs and aliens for the sake of aliens rather than them having any actual lore or reasoning attached just doesn't cut it in the 21st century.
>>
>>88721235
Why are you ignoring that both Han and Lando have flown the Falcon for years, and that they both had co-pilots where Rey did not?
>>
>>88721244
>Rogue One sucked
Maybe, but at least it was competently made, unlike TFA.

Gareth knows how to make a good looking movie.
>>

Because that anon asked for examples of Han flying better than Rey did on Jakku. I gave him precisely what he asked for.

So since you apparently agree that Han and Lando flew better, then if we give Rey years of experience flying the Falcon AND a co-pilot she'd then have flown just as good as they did and not constantly recked the Falcon or gotten their only offensive option at that time shot to hell. So what's your beef?
>>
>>88721272
>So since you apparently agree that Han and Lando flew better
I don't agree at all, and I was point out why.
>>
>>88721264
Rey has flown. She simply hadn't flown off-world. Additionally we're aware that she had a flight simulator she rebuilt and installed in her AT-AT home.
>>
>>88721285
>Additionally we're aware that she had a flight simulator she rebuilt and installed in her AT-AT home.
not in the movie
>>
>>88721276
So you're upset that they had more experience and a co-pilot explaining why they flew better but you're also swearing Rey flew better still? You can't have it both ways.
>>
>>88721303
>why they flew better
I never said this.
>>
>>88721293
It doesn't show up, it's still canon. In the movie she flat out says she's flown before multiple times.
>>
>>88721312
Then why does someone supposedly ignoring that they had more experience and a co-pilot grind your gears?
>>
>>88721325
Because it shows how artificial Rey's skill is.
>>
>>88721391

>>

Yeah, I think you might want to reread the conversation to see which point was already proven. But here, let me help you out again, because I'm kind to the mentally deficient.

Rey flying "perfectly" while crashing into shit and getting her own ship disabled:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sarFZJl3h0

Han flying in an asteroid belt despite overwhelming odds and his far larger ship surviving where multiple smaller, maneuverable fighters cannot handle it:

Both of these have already been posted in the thread so you have no excuse for your ignorance.

Not really. They didn't officially form until after the buyout, but prior to their formation they were more of an initiative in the summer of 2012, before the buyout.

In any case, they are in charge of canon.
