Is this the point a lot of people turned on this show?
>>
I officially gave up on the show after that bird is the word episode. The first half is him doing nothing but singing the song over again, to the point where he ends the first half by literally going up to the camera and screaming it at the audience as if it's supposed to make an already unfunny joke even more hilarious. It didn't. And unfortunately dumbasses in real life disagreed since I heard it everywhere after. Then the second half goes into some unrelated plot where Jesus becomes a celebrity in real life and the ego goes to his head ( which strangely isn't out of his character if you read the story about the woman washing his feet with oils from the bible) and then there's tons of cheap All religions are stupid jokes all over the place so Seth can feel good about himself. Officially dropped the show after that and never looked back. All the subtlety and wit from season 1-3 was gone and replaced by screaming and yelling
>>
>>88710645
>bawww I'm oppressed

This is the point where the show devolved into pretentious liberal garbage.

>>88711045
>ego goes to his head which strangely isn't out of his character

You don't even know the full story. She anointed Him in preparation for his crucifixion, which He knew was going to happen but chose to go through anyway. Do you think any of these self-entitled Hollywood snobs, or any pretentious SJW on the left, would submit to such a sacrifice?

You're both brainless meathead socialists and bigots. Your kind is spewing out "christfag" and "bible thumping idiot" and then selfishly crying "waaahhh I'm offended."

>inb4 waaahh I'm not a liberal

You're a lying delusional idiot and should be punched in the head to make up for all the beatings your politically correct family should have given you but didn't.

>>

So you started to hate family guy when it become just like any Monty Python sketch?

Dragging out an unfunny joke for over 10min, repeating the same stuff over and over again.
>>
Family Guy is still pretty funny, but that's about it.
>>
>>88712920
Have you considered that you only know preachy atheists because you wouldn't know if someone was one otherwise? They don't typically. gather to be preached to once a week. They don't wear crosses. I guarantee that you know at least one person who is atheist but have no idea they are an atheist.
>>
>>88713732
You mean by pulling publicity stunts like "killing him" to make him more sympathetic? That seems less apologetic and more "please love Brian!"
>>
>>88714739
Preach!
>>
>>88714739
Maybe that's ideal. Having beliefs and not bludgeoning people with them. Too many atheists are militant about it. And I wager those same people hate being preached to themselves.
>>
>>88714739
Yeah they do, their the fags who where the Christian fish symbol, but with legs. If you think that some atheists don't advertise their atheism, then go outside and look at people for one once in your life.
>>
>>88714861
>Too many

When's the last time you heard of someone being preached for being an ideal athiest or an ideal muslim or whatever?
People only pay attention to the loud so we can ignore them or avoid them. Same as all life, like Sonic fans or something. I could've passed a hundred different asperger tier fan-fiction writers but if I don't ask them about it I don't even notice their existence.
>>
>>88715235
Do you honestly believe atheists don't offer their opinions so long as they aren't asked? That's terribly naive.
>>
>>88710645
i have always hated family guy but this scene was so fucking heavy handed. when was the last christian book burning that happened really. they really just kinda pulled this scene out of there ass. like they needed meg to do something bad so that brian could say something like " you stupid religious retard look what your religion is making you do" and she would say "oh b-but muh god" and then they get brian to give meg the old theodicy problem and just have her give up right then and there triumphed by Brians superior intellect. there are three major problems with this. one i am not sure about but wasn't brian still painted as a pseudo-intellectual faggot at this point. they do this a lot where they cycle between brian being the smartest guy in the room and then being a dumbass who pretends to be smart, they need to make up there mind on this because otherwise whenever he does something smart we will think he is faking it and his message is actually stupid or when he does something stupid we will think they opposite. the second problem is meg just fucking gives up right then and there, it shows they didn't really take a lot of time to think up a solution and just wanted brian to seem like the enlightened hero so rather than have meg argue with him they just made her quit. the third problem is the fucking worst one thou it is the one that makes brian irredeemable rather than just having this just be a bad episode. it is that and correct me if i am wrong here but it seems like seth mcfarlene wanted everyone to sit back in awe at the argument brian made, like everyone who heard that was supposed to go "wait a minute bad things happen in a world i believe to be governed by god" like everyone and there uncle hasn't heard this problem before. like this isn't the oldest problem in the history of religious philosophy. and again we get to the whole is brian supposed to be the dumb ass here for stating the obvious or is he the voice of reason again.

I feel at that point the show was officially just a huge straw man mouth piece that basically lead to the world we live in today where a whole group of people just call the other side names as well as stupid will make them go away(it doesn't).
Also what makes this so cringe inducing is that Brian's counter argument to Meg isn't aiming at why destroying knowledge is wrong and something the followers of Christ actually wrote against such actions but he aims at some of the most broken chain of logic
>God isn't real because you are not hot by social standards
>God isn't real because your family is bad
and that's it, all it takes to make her shake God is that, Brian's logic is just as broken as those radical book burners. Then to answer Meg it's one of the most half assed answers that it's basically "the lord works in mysterious ways" with lord changed to universe.
I don't care if one thinks they are "right" I care when they won't engage real debate and just sit there going "No U"
>>
>>88715686
Encounters with real people that I've had (and continue to have) is more compelling to me than a poll. Granted it means less to you. Just because the average American doesn't see the obnoxious militant atheists as the most insufferable doesn't mean they aren't at all. Nor does a percentage mean anything to someone who has seen it first hand.

It's a pretty safe statement that I've made. "Are many militant atheists able to be insufferable?" If you said anything other than yes, you have a lot steeper of an uphill battle awaiting you than I would.

One guy enters with a poll and suddenly it's an invalid statement? I never even claimed they were the ABSOLUTE worst.

Another flaw in this study (Or rather how the anon is using it) is we are never shared how the question was ask and it just states "% of each group who talk about religion at least once or twice a month" It's such a messy loaded gun because it almost like the question ask was "did you campaign to save/teach people this last month?" In a such a frame people whose views are not seen as religious would likely never answer that. Also this becomes a question of memory, some people forget what they talk about last week, hell I challenge most here couldn't tell you what threads they posted in a week ago. So when asking them this level of question I could see only those that campaign their faith would top out while those that don't need to save anyone would bottom out.

Also, I don't believe in any religion, but the way religion is presented in FG is fucking stupid. There's a difference between believing in something and being extreme in it.

For starters liberal doesn't mean atheist and conservative doesn't mean religious. Secondly the winner take all approach doesn't break down how all the states really are. Example New York and Oregon are conservative as fuck out side their super cities(NYC and Portland) but in graphs and polls one would think they are magically all liberal when the truth is they are red as fuck as a whole (fun facts Oregon is one of the most religious states in the country and very heavily armed due to such lax as fuck gun laws)

Not to speak in favor of the fanatical nature of the religious, or non-religious for that matter, but the people who tend to be the loudest about telling other people what to believe and how to believe it, are the same ones who can't even run their own lives.

Look at Brian, he's an unemployed mooch who drinks and smokes weed all day and uses every sleazy tactic at his disposal to hump and dump any woman dumb enough to fall for it. Sounds like a pretty sweet life except for the fact that nobody respects him, he has no real talent, and his life is only sustained by the fact that his best friend and innkeeper is a literal retard.

I know it's only a cartoon, but seriously, I've known a few people who are preachy and condescending and they're either broke or couldn't finish school or the only reason they aren't under a bridge is from relying on someone else.

>God doesn't exist
>because he wouldn't let you feel bad if he did

fucking narcissistic millennial/boomer horseshit

If you're going to take a stand on God existing or not existing, use arguments that do not rely on precious personal feewings. The universe does not revolve around one person's temporary state of mind.
>>
>>88715759
It's a common argument that god can't be real because 'if god was real, things this bad wouldn't be happening to me or my loved ones' or 'if god was real, why are bad things happening in world'. It's a cheap argument and it comes out as if Brian had said something very clever and unique. It assumes a god should be a caring and loving deity with moral standards similiar to us, when even in the bible he comes out as angry and vengeful deity doing some very questionable stuff.
>>
>>88715702
Hmm. I'm starting to realize that every single method that humans have of inspecting and investigating the world is subject to being called a fallacy. There is literally no affirmative statement I can make that cannot be dismissed by calling it a fallacy.

>I measured the hunk of wood. It is 175 centimeters long.
Have you heard of the Fallacy of the Measuring Tape? How do you know your tape is accurate?

>I read an article in the newspaper. It said it will rain on Tuesday.
Have you heard of the Fallacy of the Weatherman? Weather science is predictive at best, you cannot take these predictions as a guarantee.

>I like to eat pizza with pepperoni on it. It is the best pizza.
Have you heard of the Fallacy of the Steaming Slice? You only like pepperoni pizza because you have learned to like it over time. If you ate anything regularly with lots of enthusiasm, you would learn to like it just as much as pizza. Therefore, your enjoyment has nothing to do with the pizza you are eating. It is a response you have learned to give to a certain stimulus.

I dunno... Identifying fallacies and instantly dismissing them may be logically sound, or whatever. But it's starting to feel dishonest somehow. Like "oh if i can deny your argument, then I won't have to think about it lol". But maybe I am overreacting....
>>
>>88716610
No, that is not how "Cunt Denialism" works.

>>
>>88722484

According to the old testament he was vengeful, jealous, and kind of an asshole. Also he didn't even initially know that Adam and Eve had eaten the apple.

All loving and omnipotent came from the new testament right?

>I'm starting to realize that every single method that humans have of inspecting and investigating the world is subject to being called a fallacy.
welcome to epistemology, we can't trust our senses, nor our reasoning, nor our emotions. truth is an enigma we can never grasp and even cogito ergo sum is a bit sketchy around the edges.

to say you are right means you are inherently wrong. the most you can say is that you seem to have evidence to suggest you might be right

Know what the real problem with religion is? All the cool ones are gone. There used to be viking gods in armor swinging hammers, and giant winged serpents, and gods of sex and war. Now? Just some perfect, all knowing, benevolent being.

Boring.

Remember when Brian was explicitly shown reading the Bible in the background in several episodes, quoting from it more than once, and even slapping Peter with it while saying "God. Is. Pissed." in the episodes where Peter founded a cult?

Yeah, neither do the current writers.

But a good deal of stories relatimg to the bible show God as not fucking with free will, which is why the Devil exists and why not everyone is a good person, etc. Paradise Lost even claims that everything God does IS pure and loving, but we have fallen so far from grace that we perceive it as anger or wrath.

Not necessarily as long as there's an actual reason to dismiss the argument.

Dismissing something simply because a fallacy is involved while ignoring any evidence it might be right despite the fallacy is falling for the Fallacy Fallacy.

People turned on Family Guy because it didn't evolve. Its humor largely relied on pop culture references, and rather than changing itself around the time reference-based humor became explosively popular, they doubled down on it and got really fucking old really fucking fast. It also gave the humor a very short self life. Hell, there are Simpsons episodes from the 90s that don't feel as dated as Family Guy's content in 2010.

In other news, God doesn't exist and people make fun of you for thinking he does because it's about as willfully ignorant as believing in Santa Clause at this point. Don't have to be a fedorian neckbeard to see that. You're allowed to believe what you want. Others, meanwhile, are allowed to laugh at you for believing in self-destructive fairy tales cooked up by 3000 year-old sand farmers who sacrificed goats and thought illnesses were demons.

The fact that a sizable number of people online are calling it a low point for the show is quite frankly troubling.
>>
>>88729462
Trying to make pictures of eldritch abominations never ends well.

There's also angels with 6 wings, and they devote 4 of those wings covering their bodies and feet because their sheer holiness would cause mortal men to burst into flames just from seeing them.

There's usually a reason why, when angels visited people in the bible, one of the first things they say is "Don't be afraid of me."

It stopped trying to imitate sitcoms and relied on shock humor and changed all the characters in order to make them either more stupid or more annoying. Brian and Stewie changed for the worst, I don't even get the joke about Stewie being gay when he clearly isn't, since he has occasional female love interests. It makes no fucking sense.

The first season of Family Guy still makes me laugh and I don't know if it's just nostalgia or what, but there were so many just normal jokes that made me laugh harder than peter blowing all his fingers off with a firecracker. It frustrates me.

>Turning a woman into a pillar of salt
>Opening the earth to swallow a bunch of Hebrew families

>Job...just Job
Pure and loving? I mean, if God truly was omnipotent, omniscient, and benevolent then evil as we know it wouldn't exist because he'd be there to watch over us and guide us to the right path.

Instead of just sitting in heaven lamenting how evil we are when he's left us to our own devices for thousands of years like the unwanted children of a one night stand.

At this stage in the series Brian wasn't an evangelical atheist; he was just the straight-man.

He saw that the biblical plagues were literally raining down on his house and came to the logical conclusion: GOD. IS. PISSED.

no, long before that. like that fucking genius episode where rush limbaugh appeared and was damn sympathetic, and they apologized for all the terrible political jokes by basically establishing that brian isnt truly left or right, he's just a contrarian asshole

As a used to be Christian the entire point of Job is to answer why there is such suffering in the world when there is a god. And the answer is simple. Satan.

Why did mommy get raped and killed before my eyes? Satan.

Why did god let my entire family die in 9/11? Satan.

Why does god let famines and droughts exist? Satan.

All to test you. And what makes Job even more fucked is that the concept of heaven really didn't come about until after Job, to this day most Jews don't believe there is an afterlife, that allowing God to treat them like shit then dying into shitty nothingness is good and loving.
