I love the universe and the possibilities that open up within it. Any kind of creative scenario I can possibly dream up would fit in the Star Wars universe. Every dream that I have ever dreamt could be a Star Wars story. It's fiction at its finest because of the lack of limitations. I mean, SW may as well be a medium in itself for art. What makes TCW my favorite cartoon of all time is how it perfectly uses the universe as a way to tell stories that can have noting to do with each other. One episode is about a planetary assault and the next is about zombies. R1 was also great at this too. My biggest hope for VIII is that it takes the franchise into new territories with concepts that we've never even seen before, because that's what SW great to me

The variety, history, scale and richness of the setting. How it encourages blending styles and genres. Emphasis on continuity and making the setting feel like a tangible, living place.

You can tell any kind of story in this universe and it'll work. Any background shlob can have his own exciting story to tell that adds to the greater whole.

Other than that, I guess it's the pulpy, melodramatic theatricality, the meshing of spiritual and mundane, of adventure and hard-hitting emotional drama. How the Star Wars works can just be incredibly flexible. A clone story won't be just a dry jarhead sci-fi, a story about Force believers won't be just a philosophical essay, an Imperial court drama won't be just a generic political thriller. The setting, by itself, injects so many shades into any given story and a good writer can, and should, take advantage of that.

Yeah I agree I enjoy Rebels for what it is but I can't deny it feels like it's carrying a ever present weight on its shoulders preventing it from being the show it wants to be.

Rebels feels like a Saturday morning cartoon. Clone Wars felt like everything good about Star Wars just condensed into palatable short stories.

When Rebels has a good story to tell and is willing to push the boundaries it CAN be great though as we saw at the end of S2.

I don't know about starkiller base. Since it consumes a star to fire the weapon it should probably be able to move too, but maybe it was only made for the singular purpose of destroying the New Republic Fleet - which it accomplished. Then it wouldn't need hyperspace and it being blown up wouldn't have bothered the First Order that much

Yeah, it wasn't explained in the movie but apparently the canon novel makes it clear that the Starkiller's beam goes through a rift in hysperspace so it's visible all over the galaxy like a gamma ray burst

it would need to move to find a new star to consume to power it, though

You're getting your information mixed up. Ilum is ransacked for kybers to power Galen's research and eventually the DS/DS2 lasers. Starkiller doesn't run on kybers, which is why it's beam is red and not green. It runs on pure energy/dark matter pulled off of a sun.

The old republic should be completely reinvented for the new canon. It's stupid how in Legends there was almost zero cultural and technological progress in the time it took us to go from the stone age to space exploration. 5 thousand years ago GFFA shouldn't have even known what a hyperdrive is.
