Nice stealth Cass thread, OP, but really Cass is best gril. She's the only Bat Family member that could legitimately take over for Bruce, even over Dick.

American marketing has a thing about faces.
Something along the lines of if the audience cant see the character emote then they can't sympathies with them.
Of course it's entirely bullshit, human being are set up to anthropomorphize almost everything they see, but that's just how it goes here.

it works in comics because even masks are able to emote to a degree (like batman/spiderman's eyes will change shape depending on their emotion)

It did detract from Spiderman 1 when you had a guy in an unmoving spiderman mask having a conversation in a guy with an unmoving green goblin mask. Meant they had to shake their heads a lot more than usual.
(still a good movie though)
