I want a Boba Fett movie in the style of Boondock Saints mixed with Taxi Driver and Judge Dredd. Imagine a movie about Boba going on random missions until a desperate father contacts him. He sends Boba on a mission to find his teenage daughter who has been enslaved by some criminal organization. Think of those Imperial pedophile rings on Ryloth in Lords of the Sith. Boba initially declines since it's more of a rescue mission but the guy has some huge bargaining chip somehow (maybe he was a cartographer in the early days of the Empire and he's been sitting on some planet full of extremely expensive resources). Boba and him would make billions of credits from the deal so he takes it. The whole movie is about Boba trying to be his own man instead of a mindless clone but the father makes a point about how Boba is worse than a clone because he spends his whole life mindlessly killing with no regard for the innocents who he disadvantages in his line of work like a separatist droid. Over the movie Boba gets more caring towards the girl but never really becomes a goody two shoes. He just gets a code of honour and refuses to take work killing people who are completely innocent (as opposed to people like Han Solo who have chosen to get involved in wars and dangerous lines of work).

The whole movie don't make Boba a Gary Stu, just make him similar to John Wick where he barely makes it out of impossible odds fights using his wits but also coming out of every fight in need of a bacta tank for a few days.

The characters were alright, not everyone needs a lengthy in-depth dramatic backstory to understand who they are and what they are trying to do.
AT-ATs and Vader etc. are there because of the fucking setting, not because "pandering", it literally leads into ANH, who did you expect to see? A story depicting a battle at a specific point in history features battle machines and military leaders from that time in history, whowuddathunk! And they're totally the entire focus of the story! At most you can argue that Evazan and Ponda Baba or R2 and 3PO are pandering - two scenes a few seconds long. MOVIE RUINED.

There's nothing inherently wrong with a self-referential, flashy film that it more about the mission than the characters. There shouldn't be a rule that says sticking in cheap Threepio and Artoo references in every movie is BAD or WRONG.

2016 has been the best year for me so far.
Graduated high school, finished a semester of college, got my first car, went on a couple roadtrips, Rogue one came out and it was infinitely better than TFA, Trump won and everyone lost their shit. Just the little things to enjoy. Sure some celebrities died, but it's only natural. We can judge Rey's competency at the Force through the speed in which she learns.
It was only until Empire that Luke could even move his lightsaber.
In TFA, Rey does it in a few hours. And overpowers, Kylo was pulling on it at the same time.
That's observable proof right there.

The biggest sin was her interaction with Han.
That's textbook Mary Sue. She understood the Falcon as well as he did (Han had trouble starting it, but she "bypassed the character development" to get it going). She finished his sentences for him, and then he offered her a place on his ship.
Remember how Han was just annoyed with Luke pretty much all ANH?
Within an hour of meeting Rey, he's offering her a spot on it

Rey was just too good at everything and people just liked her too much

Those two things combined is what made her a Mary Sue.

Did you forget Han is a completely different character by the end of Jedi? Luke was also an obnoxious farmboy whereas Rey is more like Han in interests and knowledge so it does make more sense.

But I don't bother commenting on the force stuff. We're on the first of three films and have no idea Rey's backstory. It's clear she has some relation to the force so her aptitude could easily be explained.
